That sort of thing really gets my goat actually. The police style the equipment as safety oriented but they always site themselves in places designed to catch people out like speed transitions and places with good visibility. They rarely site themselves outside the likes of schools, hospitals, churches and old folks homes.3 points

This has been on my list of things to do for ages, but had to take second place to sorting my exhaust out which I managed to finish this morning. I wanted the doors to be hinged so that I can get in and out with the half hood on, so ages ago I ordered some stainless steel fittings from a Marine Chandlery shop. They took months to arrive, but when they did I could see that they would do the trick. I also picked up a Rivnut gun and suitable Rivnuts to take the hinge fittings. I want to be able to remove the doors and fittings easily so that when the weather is set fair for a while I can go back to fully open. Anyway, to cut a long story short it basically all works. I made a mess of the first two rivnuts as I didn’t know what I was doing but with a bit of tidying up they will be fine, they are fixed firmly so all is good. The main downside to the fittings I’ve used is that they stand the door away from the bodywork a bit, leaving a gap for the wind to come in. To close that, I’ve fitted some trim from Woollies which works really well. All that is left for these is a little strap and popper to hold them closed. They seal up perfectly when pulled in so should be just what I wanted. Last job was to fit the old Caterham wind deflectors I had on it before. The hinge fitting holes had been sealed up, so I had to re drill those but they have gone on very well and sit nicely against the front edge of the doors. They have the added benefit of stopping the doors swinging right the way open so it all works well 👍👍 Apologies for so many pictures!2 points

Well I picked up the SE and drove back from Stoke in the pouring rain. Handling a bit leary but who knows if it has been set up properly. Engine seems well out of tune but again who knows when last tuned. Receipts and folders many from Westfield suggest engine maybe a 1600GT do need to check numbers. Possibly a Kent A2 fast road cam. it may all just need a good clean of carbs, reset tappets and general fettle. All hopefully straight forward enough.2 points

Welcome - and there are no daft / mundane questions! We’ve all been there! 😄2 points

Welcome to the club. I'm close to you as well in Great Wyrley. Keep an eye out for the @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Peak district run outs. Good place to get to know people in the club and get advice too.2 points

They are very interesting if you go with the mentality that you want to learn something. Within 5 minutes you will know the ones who are not interested and don't want to be there. I have done more than one and I actually found them really enjoyable.2 points

One result of my little incident after Malvern was a sheared off exhaust bolt that looked tricky to get out. After some good advice from Adge, I ordered an Easy Out kit off eBay which arrived this week. I had sprayed the bolt with GT85 a few times during the week to hopefully make it easier to remove. I punched a mark as centrally as possible and then found it relatively easy to use the drill bit to put a hole all the way through, running the drill in reverse as the bits are reverse threaded. Access was a bit tricky, so I just got a pair of mole grips on the extractor and the sheared off part came out remarkably easily! Hurrah! Exhaust is now bolted back on securely and not blowing at all, so hopefully can go and have a gentle drive soon, next weekend most likely. Despite owning a Westfield for about 16 years in total, I’m still pretty clueless on doing anything much to it, so this counts as a win 👍👍1 point

Hi all. I have just purchased a nice little Westfield SE with a 1.6 crossflow on 45s. All looks well. Just needs a little bit of tlc, fettle and maybe a few mods or changes soon. Especially the wheels. Apart from that I am looking forward to ownership and no doubt boring you with many a mundane questions for which I apologise in advance.1 point

Hello, I am new to Westfield ownership and this forum. I bought an FW with 2.0 zetec on throttle bodies at the end of May, with the great run of weather I have covered 1000 miles since then. Just wondering if there is still an active group in Scotland as I have not found much lately on the threads. I am on the east coast in fife1 point

IMHO speed traps are purely there to raise money and have little or nothing to do with safety1 point

Hi. Not much gets organised directly on here specifically as there’s not a huge number of Westfields, and we’re spread out all over the place. There is a non specific Kitcar/Lotus WhatsApp group, very active with members from all over Scotland. We just did a highland tour last month. big trips are usually shared on here also. I can ask admin to add to to the group if you like 👍 @Gary Taylor1 point

I've used Piston Heads etc as well. But one thing i would add, photos of the car looking pretty are fine, and detail shots of things like the (very) minor bit of seat damage are great. BUT, when evaluating build quality, condition etc 99.9% of people want to see under the bonnet. And not just a single shot from 10m away! A few good frame filling shots of the engine bay from different angles/directions helps a lot. Apart from condition, overall in there, potential buyers are looking at the state of wiring and piping and their runs; are they neat and tidy, clipped up and supported as appropriate, in good condition etc... Similarly, if you have any uprated parts on there, close up photos are worth their weight in gold. When selling in a specialised place like an owners forum, or a more general enthusiasts forum like Piston Heads, detail is king, both in photos and text. So for instance, once past the title, it's not even that clear what engine you have.. OK, we know it's a 1.8 Zetec, but is it on the Ford single throttle body, or after market ITB, or carbs. (hint, photos are really handy here, as too, as they help detail any bits of spec you're not sure about). It's a nice looking car, with a little TLC needed trim wise, but the price also seems very good for what we can see in the photos. Car's like Westfield though, sell on condition and to a lesser extent spec. rather than age or mileage. Hope that's of some help?1 point

I was watching this thread as I was wondering the same thing. I'm in the Clyde valley. I bought my Westie a few weeks ago (and am still trying to get it to run nicely at low revs). I don't know of any other owners in the area at all, unfortunately.1 point

I did one a fair few years ago, went in the Westfield. Was asked for (current) photo ID. I was still on my ancient paper driving license and didn’t have a current passport, so used the only one I had. An MSA (Speed) race license, one of the two people running the course laughed, and was interested. The other took offense and told me I was a trouble maker and she’d have her eye on me! It made the rest of the course really fascinating. The guy, who turned out to be a (driving) instructor for trucks was genuinely trying to teach new skills/refresh knowledge that had been forgotten. The lady, a (car) based driving instructor seemed to just look down on us all and was more interested in taking cheap shots at everyone. Did another during lockdown, an online one. No dodgy person leading the session here, just a really good presenter, who again made the whole thing really interesting, and left you feeling like it was productive and you’d taken something useful away.1 point

I done mine in Wolves approx 5 yrs ago and had to get a certificate for my employer to prove I’d completed it. whilst waiting in the queue for the cert I asked if anyone fancied a race home 😳🤣🥴🤪1 point

I've done trackdays organised by MSV and also Opentrack - Both are well managed and they soon pull off the odd muppet as they did at Cadwell Park recently - 2 black flags and he was gone. I've only ever seen this done once in the track days I've done. Which shows the standard of driving is generally good and courteous. Brands is a great circuit but pretty pricey unless you do an evening session. The Essex lads generally frequent Snetterton, which is good to learn on and lots of grassy areas in case you need them 🙂. Generally a full day is quieter in the afternoon, so if your learning you can have a lot of good driving with fewer on the track. But go for it and have fun, its what ours cars are made for 🙂1 point

Get a new dipstick from Ford. It'll be cheaper than a new engine...1 point
