This has been on my list of things to do for ages, but had to take second place to sorting my exhaust out which I managed to finish this morning. I wanted the doors to be hinged so that I can get in and out with the half hood on, so ages ago I ordered some stainless steel fittings from a Marine Chandlery shop. They took months to arrive, but when they did I could see that they would do the trick. I also picked up a Rivnut gun and suitable Rivnuts to take the hinge fittings. I want to be able to remove the doors and fittings easily so that when the weather is set fair for a while I can go back to fully open. Anyway, to cut a long story short it basically all works. I made a mess of the first two rivnuts as I didn’t know what I was doing but with a bit of tidying up they will be fine, they are fixed firmly so all is good. The main downside to the fittings I’ve used is that they stand the door away from the bodywork a bit, leaving a gap for the wind to come in. To close that, I’ve fitted some trim from Woollies which works really well. All that is left for these is a little strap and popper to hold them closed. They seal up perfectly when pulled in so should be just what I wanted. Last job was to fit the old Caterham wind deflectors I had on it before. The hinge fitting holes had been sealed up, so I had to re drill those but they have gone on very well and sit nicely against the front edge of the doors. They have the added benefit of stopping the doors swinging right the way open so it all works well 👍👍 Apologies for so many pictures!6 points

One result of my little incident after Malvern was a sheared off exhaust bolt that looked tricky to get out. After some good advice from Adge, I ordered an Easy Out kit off eBay which arrived this week. I had sprayed the bolt with GT85 a few times during the week to hopefully make it easier to remove. I punched a mark as centrally as possible and then found it relatively easy to use the drill bit to put a hole all the way through, running the drill in reverse as the bits are reverse threaded. Access was a bit tricky, so I just got a pair of mole grips on the extractor and the sheared off part came out remarkably easily! Hurrah! Exhaust is now bolted back on securely and not blowing at all, so hopefully can go and have a gentle drive soon, next weekend most likely. Despite owning a Westfield for about 16 years in total, I’m still pretty clueless on doing anything much to it, so this counts as a win 👍👍3 points

Hi, A few of us have booked onto the track evening at Donington (National Circuit) on the 18th July 2023 (normally a 4pm sign on then slow sighter laps, 5pm track opens, 8pm track closes). Three of us did the same thing this year, nabbed ourselves a garage (can't be booked) and had a great laugh for a few hours. If you fancy joining us remember you can do it through the Javelin Trackdays site and take advantage of the WSCC members discount and save a few quid 👍 None of us are hard-core track fiends, we just go at our own pace and have a chuckle. Spectators are free and have access to the garages and pit wall if you just fancy coming along to watch. Obviously not an official WSCC event so please make sure you sort your own insurance etc. I'll post again nearer the time 👍1 point

As versions of the meal have been served for over a century, its origin remains obscure. The 1758 edition of the book The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy by Hannah Glasse included a recipe in 1758 as "Hamburgh sausage", which suggested to serve it "roasted with toasted bread under it." A similar snack was also popular in Hamburg by the name "Rundstück warm" ("bread roll warm") in 1869 or earlier, and supposedly eaten by many emigrants on their way to America, but may have contained roasted beefsteak rather than Frikadeller. It has been suggested that Hamburg steak served between two pieces of bread and frequently eaten by Jewish passengers travelling from Hamburg to New York on Hamburg America Line vessels (which began operations in 1847) became so well known that the shipping company gave its name to the dish. Each of these may mark the invention of the hamburger and explain the name. There is a reference to a "Hamburg steak" as early as 1884 in the Boston Journal.[OED, under "steak"] On July 5, 1896, the Chicago Daily Tribune made a highly specific claim regarding a "hamburger sandwich" in an article about a "Sandwich Car": "A distinguished favorite, only five cents, is Hamburger steak sandwich, the meat for which is kept ready in small patties and 'cooked while you wait' on the gasoline range." (My sister was quite upset with me when we were young and I convinced her butterflies were made of butter and got her to eat one. She still hasn’t forgiven me.)1 point

It's finally summer in Montana, USA and race season is in full swing. The car is working very well giving great results. The handling has really gotten dialed in and it allows me to get very close to the cones (the closer you are the better in almost all cases) which in turn makes the course shorter....so precision is key. Good fun. dave1 point
