  1. For everyone coming from Yorkshire. We can meet at the Red Kite, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, WF4 3BB at 10am, leaving at 10:30. And take the roads avoiding motorways. It's approximately 1 hour and 27 miles to the Strines. I'm not familiar with the route, but that should add to the fun. Who's joining me there?

  2. Good weekend at Powderham, usual eclectic mix of vehicles (well over 1000 I understand) of all types spanning over 100 years. We had nine cars on our display area Saturday, with couple of showers during the day, so roofs/covers on and off as necessary. Saturday evening the “steamers” provided their usual atmospheric backdrop around the bar area as darkness approached. Sunday started with a heavy shower, but then cleared as our “day visitors” arrived to join those making a weekend of it. Eleven cars on our display area, which filled it nicely with room to walk round. Ominous bank of grey cloud appeared from the south as the morning progressed. Lunchtime found us quickly covering our cars and sheltering in the gazebo when it literally tipped down for about an hour! Thankfully the rain stopped and we were treated to a sunny afternoon to dry things out before we had to pack up. All in all a good weekend, many thanks to all who came and displayed cars, plus those who made a long weekend of it and helped with setting up/packing up our display area, plus cooking breakfast! Looking forward to next year.

  3. How to move nearly 30 tons of stationary eight cylinder engine to its home 15 miles away. Overheard Instructions to engine drivers: “Trailer will bottom out going out of the gate onto the road, don’t stop, just keep going!” Worked, as they chugged up the A379 past our camp area about an hour later!

  4. Julie is planning this event, If you haven't been to one of our meetings this will be a great opportunity to see what we are all about and maybe make new friends. Julies Peak District meetings are legendary in the WSCC, this one is designed to bring a number of different areas together. The route from the Manchester area to Strines is great, over the Woodhead pass going and returning via the Snake pass. So who's coming? we can meet anywhere between Manchester and Glossop for the run out. Put your names down here and your preferred meeting place, then we can sort out a timetable. Meet at The Strines, Mortimer Road, S6 6JE, midday on Sunday 30th July. I am hoping that this fairly central location will attract AO's and members from a lot of different areas so we can have a good tyre kick by the display of cars. The fairly small car park in front of the pub has a big over spill car park behind it up the hill, as it is summer we will be better off park'ng up there. Bring your flags if you have one. Who is interested? who is coming?

  11. Old news now I know, but this is an excellent in-depth article on the Titan and the man behind it. To say hubris and unheeded warnings is putting it mildly - the man was flying in the face of everything sound. Worth a read.

  12. It'll be our Area meet the Thursday of that week, I'm sure we can find a way to get you to and from Macc. if the weather is ok! Perhaps @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative might be tempted to do a Saturday Peak District run, again, we can find a way to get you there and back!

  16. I am still pondering what concerned me the most. ... Was it @Jim cunliffe determined to test his new ditch finders to the limit... was it the rain.. was it the nissan micra which must have been a sleeper.. or was it dodging @Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO bog roll 😂

  17. Of course the 'Green Hell' is known for rain, so guess what comes next for Me @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator and @Jim cunliffe ?

  21. Did you tell it to 'Bog off'? Clearly @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator can use editions of 'Westfield World' to time his laps and the ex squaddie has gone soft and has to carry quilted velvet loo roll, rather than a shovel! I dare not ask how @Terryathome rings!

  22. A word of warning. If you are going to 'do' the Nurburgring and you have a lockable boot lid, make sure you lock it before venturing out on track, also make sure any items in the boot are securely stowed, especially your emergency toilet roll

  23. Please, please don't! We welcome all who share our passion for kit cars and motoring. It's fantastic to see a different approach to your car, and we'll look forward to seeing and reading more of it.

  27. Thanks for all the comments I’ve a busy weekend coming up so doubt I’ll have much time to work on the car but I managed to find a quick half hour after work this evening to cut and fold the bonnet. the aluminium sheet was too large for my bender so I clamped the fold between two lengths of steel angle and then hammered the bed with a rubber mallet. the roll was likewise done on the lawn over a length of 4” drain pipe.

  28. We stayed up late last night and Terry needed an extra few zedz after breakfast 😆 we had all day to relax before the big event so we had a quick lunch stop in the twisties near Nurburgring and then starting at 5pm the brave trio Paul, Jim and me on the ring while Terry and Wayne spectated at the 16 km corner 😎 my lap time includes car park time !! First on track at 5pm 😁
