  4. POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER FORECAST Meet at The Strines, Mortimer Road, S6 6JE, midday on Sunday 30th July. I am hoping that this fairly central location will attract AO's and members from a lot of different areas so we can have a good tyre kick by the display of cars. The fairly small car park in front of the pub has a big over spill car park behind it up the hill, as it is summer we will be better off parking up there. Bring your flags if you have one. Who is interested? who is coming?

  5. A London-through-time quiz There's loads of archive footage of London uploaded to YouTube. Youโ€™ll be shown random ones, starting at a random moment. Your challenge? Guess what year it is. Five clips to watch and make your guesses. Your score will be based on overall accuracy, and youโ€™ll get between one and twelve bongs of Big Ben. (My best so far is ten bongs - stop sniggering.) 6. It was great to see everyone last night; we were a little light on Westfields, specially with both mine and Ianโ€™s car just waiting on a few small bits to finish off the post near 2000 mile trip servicing. It was especially fantastic to see Fraser again and catch up. Itโ€™s been probably three years now, since Iโ€™d had a chance to speak to him, and more like four since he had a chance to make an area meet. Keep an eye on the calendar for our next meet, weather dependent, we will do the Swettenham Classic run on the Tuesday if possible.

  11. Thanks for all the comments Iโ€™ve a busy weekend coming up so doubt Iโ€™ll have much time to work on the car but I managed to find a quick half hour after work this evening to cut and fold the bonnet. the aluminium sheet was too large for my bender so I clamped the fold between two lengths of steel angle and then hammered the bed with a rubber mallet. the roll was likewise done on the lawn over a length of 4โ€ drain pipe.

  14. Fab attendance last night, big thanks to everyone for coming along! Nice line up of Westies, Paul's VX220 Turbo and and Steve's MK. Later on we were joined by Mick in his stunning Elan, had to get a photo as it is a thing of beauty ๐Ÿ˜ Loads of chat and laughs with friends, with stories of Le Mans and Chris telling us all about how he has recently become a 2 Westfield family with his and hers cars! We had a lot of friendly banter about the imminent Donington track day. For quite a few members it's their first time on track so some nerves and loads of excitement! I'm really looking forward to it, should be a fun event. Newark was also a hot topic, many of us will be camping Saturday evening which is always a great laugh, especially the evening after a few bevvies! We will of course arrange a convoy from our area so watch this space! While we were talking meets, we chatted about the possibility of a "meeting of the areas" later in the month. Seems we have some good interest, more details to follow soon!

  15. My build was an early 1.6 and by choice Iโ€™d build the same spec again if I could. Donโ€™t be out of by the short nose crank issues. Yes there was sone that suffered problems when gorillas tightened the crank bolt and over torqued it but equally plenty that didnโ€™t, Iโ€™ve owned three such issues and none displayed any problems. The advantage of the 1.6 is that you can change the timing belt without removing the crank pulley so in theory the bolt should never have been touched. Steer away from the cars with an auto gearbox though as the engines were lower compression. I think if I couldnโ€™t get another early 1.6 then Iโ€™d use a 1.8 vvti donor now. When sourcing a donor mx5 also look for one with the least options and gadgets, youโ€™ll be thankful when it comes to striping the wiring loom.

Just over 200 miles under the belt today ๐Ÿ˜Ž We had a couple of early morning glitches Wayne had a coolant pipe leak and Jim had a loose steering column, both quickly fixed and onward to Luxenbourg ๐Ÿ™‚ We enjoyed a nice scenic route through Luxembourg including up a cycle path when Paul was leading ๐Ÿ˜… On into Germany and weโ€™ve arrived at a hotel stop for two nights near the Nurburgring ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. As my catalytic convertor has finally died, (given the cooking its had over the years, I'm surprised it lasted this long!) I've just noticed the S2000 cat delete/link pipe in the sale with quite a bit off, so ordered one this morning. Thanks Jase.

  30. A few more recent images, some of the Moon, Venus and a recent large Active Region on the Sun. This shows a feature called Schrรถterโ€™s Valley and the bright crater is Aristarchus. This one below shows two features called the Lunar X and V, highlighted in the next image. This one is of Venus showing around half phase. Finally a very large and detailed Active Region on the Sun. It was big enough to show a a black dot when viewing the Sun with eclipse glasses. Through a decent solar scope it was amazing, about ten earth diameters across I think.
