  5. I’ve put in a request with work to have the Friday off so I can help out all weekend. Trying to convince dad to let someone trailer the car (he’s on holiday that weekend) over so we can have at least 1 speed series car on show.

  10. 1995 SeiW in racing green. Built and registered in 1995, bought as a full kit from the factory. Car was in use until 2005, it was then parked up and stored in a dry garage until I bought the car in 2022, from a member of the WSCC. This is my 5th Westfield so I know my way around them pretty well. This car is probably the cleanest I have owned and hasn't been modified in any way since it was built. Wiring, fixings, interior etc are all very very tidy and by the book. Engine is a 1660 Xflow reconditioned by westfield. I bore scoped the engine before it's first start up. The cylinders still have the honing marks from the rebuild. It's running a twin choke downdraught carb (XR2 I believe) Car starts, runs, ticks over like a 90s production car, very smooth, no smoke or nasty noises. Gearbox is a 4 speed and shifts very smoothly. Disc brakes all around. Bodywork is exceptional for the age, there are some small hairline cracks on the bonnet BUT the car comes with a brand new spare bonnet that was bought at the same time as the kit so should be a perfect colour match. There is as you would expect some light scratches to the gel coat but nothing that wouldn’t polish out with some elbow grease. Since buying the car I’ve given the engine a thorough check over, cleaned the carb. Fuel tank and lines have been flushed. Coolant system has been flushed and a new thermostat fitted from Burton. 82 degrees to help with cooler running. New points, new condenser and a Lucas coil. Car comes with a pair of doors. I bought the car with the intention of doing some track days with my son, we’ve since had a change of direction and bought a brand new aerorace westfield with full cage, more suitable to our intended use. To finish the car it needs a full service, new battery, probably safe to say the tyres should be changed. Then it’s ready for an MOT. The car can be test driven on our driveway obviously not on public roads without an MOT. Looking for £5,500 OVNO. You won’t find a cleaner more honest Westfield for the money. If the car doesn’t sell in 2 weeks I’ll remove the ad, complete the service, tyres and MOT and relist at a higher price. I thought selling as a small project would give someone new to Westfield's a cheaper starting option. I can deliver free of charge within 50 miles. Or up to 100 miles if you cover the fuel. 12. If it's any help, it though was a real heart breaker to sell my T Car, the Sigma! In the end it couldn't have gone to a better home, and the Bell's that now own it are thoroughly loving both the driving and social side of Club life and owning a Westfield.

  13. No, the taller screen and roll bar usually mean a half hood needed for those that want weather gear. This is a stunning car spec for the money and as Scott said the 4AGE is a superb engine anyway, but in a Westfield it's sublime! It's also one of those combinations in a Westfield that work devastatingly well for road or track, really punching above their weight, and embarrassing much "bigger" spec cars.

  19. On Thu 22nd June @Greenstreak-Andy D @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman @Stu Faulkner and I, commence a 12 day road trip to Austria and Italy. We've got a new hotel to try in Austria (previous one is great, but we don't really need a Spa/Boutique Hotel). The plan was to travel back from Verona by train. However two weeks after booking the Train. Urlaub Express kindly advised due to staff shortage and training issues, they can't safely load us in Verona and we've now got to drive back to Innsbruck. It would have been a circa 2hr drive to Verona, and is now 8hrs to Innsbruck, which kills our last day in Italy, however the show must go on. Hence we're not going to Verona but the trip name remains. Unlike previous trips, we've not doing a long 3 day drive home via France or Germany, we're taking the train in and out - Duesseldorf - Innsbruck and Innsbruck to Duesseldorf @Stu Faulkner has got twice the power as last year and @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman has added additional hardware to keep his silencer on We're all busy checking the cars overs, finalising waypoints and preparing to pack. Updates will follow..........................

  22. I've done trackdays organised by MSV and also Opentrack - Both are well managed and they soon pull off the odd muppet as they did at Cadwell Park recently - 2 black flags and he was gone. I've only ever seen this done once in the track days I've done. Which shows the standard of driving is generally good and courteous. Brands is a great circuit but pretty pricey unless you do an evening session. The Essex lads generally frequent Snetterton, which is good to learn on and lots of grassy areas in case you need them 🙂. Generally a full day is quieter in the afternoon, so if your learning you can have a lot of good driving with fewer on the track. But go for it and have fun, its what ours cars are made for 🙂

  25. A Plan are superb. I've had kits and the work pick up with them for years, not always the cheapest, but having had to make a claim with them on the pick up some years ago, the service was second to none, so I'd rather go with who I'm confident will look after my interests. Re the questions, as Mark said, standard questions that should be asked, (not all brokers do, which I don't find reassuring!) Sometimes some care is needed in the answers. When I had the Westfield experience one years ago, the answer was no, but did have experience with similar high power, rear drive cars, with no driver aids, which was what they were getting at. Equally, when asked if my (home built) Westfield Mega S2000 was standard or modified, the answer at the time, as it was true, was that yes, it was Westfields standard spec, apart from using Stack instruments not VDO. Again, told them what they really needed to know. Of course, it's not always easy to know unless you have a specific model the factory sold. So always give too much, rather than too little info. They will filter through that, and make a note of what they have to. So after upgrades a few years ago, for example, I listed my changes as "supercharger, uprated cooling system, fuelling system, ecu, flywheel and clutch." I also listed the change to an AiM dash, and the bodywork swap to FW rear. Did it make any difference to premium cost? Actually not really, the only difference to the previous cover was inflation. BUT, in the event of the worst happening, it's all there on the record.

  26. Just to re-fresh this, as the Blyton track day has been mentioned a few times recently. As a Club, we would love to do this, as we have before. However, Stephen has hit the nail on the head; for I suspect, a variety of reasons, it has become very, very difficult to maintain over recent years. We do seem to have just about scraped through by the skin of our teeth the last few times, but barely. The typical situation has been lots of initial enthusiasm, followed by a few people signing up well in advance, a few more a month or so out, followed by weeks of tumbleweed drifting through the sign up pages, and frantic work by those organising the Blyton SS Weekend, who are already extremely busy with the Speed event, trying to shore the numbers up. It's often only been in the last days before the event that enough extra people have signed on to allow it to at least cover itself. It's certainly not off the table, but may need a bit more of a re-think, in order to continue. I agree though, days like Blyton and Abingdon etc are great for beginners, thanks to the increased run off areas, which are often concrete or tarmac, rather than just grass or gravel as with the big circuits. I'd also note that in the past, we have had a (none committee, so you can relax!) Club Officer, who acted as the track day guru/liaison. Helping to promote, publicise and coordinate with members, events that groups of us wanted to attend. That role is sort of open now, as the previous incumbent is focusing on other motorsports events. Having a member willing to step forward and take the role on, with perhaps more of the share of arranging things like the Blyton day, to ease the load on the SS Team would be a great first step to seeing more track action promoted within the Club.

  27. Frankly, I’m amazed @bigron still has both hands 5 days in - someone should have snapped his hand off by now. Very little work to have a very good car. The 4Age engine is excellent. Someone will get a bargain.

  29. Great news and congrats on getting the V8! My first year of "Westfielding" I used 2Gether and found them ok to deal with and I got a good price. The second year they seemed to want so much information it was ridiculous (they're a broker so may not be their fault) so I moved to A-Plan and have been with them since. A-Plan (the Thatcham branch deals with kit and specialist insurance) are very good. They sponsor the club, give members a good discount and you'll always find them at the car shows (Carlie Norwell was at Malvern for instance). They've a good reputation amongst the classic and modified car scene too.

  39. We have just returned from a fantastic few days away to the ring. My lad wanted to experience driving abroad now he's old enough too and suggested the Nurburgring. It seemed like a nice little trip in the Westfield. Not too far 320 odd miles each way. A total of 800 ish miles in 3 days. We got the tunnel across to Calais (£160 each). We travelled along the E42 (avoiding Brussels on the E40) but dived off that at Verviers and went down past Spa and towards Prum and Gerolstein. That last hour or so was beautiful driving roads. The temperature got hotter and hotter as we got closer. 25-26 deg the whole time and not a cloud in the sky. After a few fuel/lunch stop we arrived at our base for the next few nights. The Gantry, in Drees. https://www.facebook.com/thenurburgringgantry Just a couple of kilometres from the centre of Nurburgring. Lovely quiet little village. Owned by a friendly British family. The place had everything we needed. On suite, comunal kitchen, games room etc, plenty of parking both on the driveway and in the barn. All felt secure and I left mine outside everynight. Priced at 100 euros per night for a twin room, I thought that was really good value. Nicks wife Tanja informed us of directions to the various places we wished to go. The area is easy to navigate and all on perfect tarmac twisty roads! A fuel stop nearby, the famous "you tube corner" properly named as Brunnchen just down the road, Nordschleife, the entrance to the circuit the other direction. That evening we did our first lap of the ring after purchasing a Green hell card (which you just top up as required) from the ticket office at the track entrance. It wasn't too busy I was told for this time of year. The evening session was 5pm - 7.30 pm. During the day time the circuit was hired for Gran Turismo which was fantastic to watch. As they all exited off we went. You pretty much just drive on and drive off as you wish. One lap cost 30 euros, (£26). We bumped into Nick after at the Devils diner and he took us out for a couple of laps in his own Renault Megane Cup 250. (that was an eye opener! and made me realise how slow we were!). There was a good mix of cars ranging from day trippers that had left their caravan at the camp site and popped down to drive the ring, and local regulars in Lambos and Corvettes! I can honestly say I have never seen so many Porsche GT3 RS's. They were everywhere! After some dinner at an Italian restaurant called Lucia up by the visitor centre we had an earlyish night as we were knackered. The following morning, we spent the day exploring the twistys, watched some more racing at various points around the 20km circuit and visited the toboggan for a giggle. We had lunch at the Cock Pit, in Adenau and then was ready again for the evening session. After a few more laps, getting more confident and a bit quicker each time it came to a halt when a German crashed his BMW quite badly and the circuit closed for a while. At that point, we decided to quit while we were ahead and spectate the rest of the session knowing that we had successfully done enough laps each to justify our proudly placed stickers on our cars! We enjoyed some more twisty sunset lit roads before bed for the last day. Next morning, more coffee and croissants in the sunshine sat outside a local Patisserie started the day. We visited the Nurburgring museum which was fantastic value for 11 euros. Very interactive and some amazing cars and simulators etc. We then did the electric go karts at the Kartbarn next door. Again, 15 euros for 10 mins, and these were impressive. If we had more time we would have done more of that! But we had to head home for a late evening train back to Folkestone. The route I chose was twists across the Ardene towards Namur and then back onto the E42. It wasn't as impressive as the way down. Next time i'd go that way both ways. The traffic was a bit heavier and lots of HGV's on smaller roads which you got stuck behind and had a job to pass which became frustrating in the heat. But you get the idea. If its on your list. You need to experience the place. I have never been anywhere quite like it before. Pure petrol head heaven with super cars everywhere you turn. My only negatives. I wished we had planned maybe another day or two and taken some suncream! If the weather was poor, it would not have been as great as it was. We were extremely lucky. When we got off the tunnel in the UK it was grey and drizzle... For anyone thinking about it. Read up on the risks if you are unfortunate and have an accident. Also look at the official website diary to check what's on. 2-5th June was a massive Rock Am Ring concert so the area was getting really busy as we were leaving. Also on weekends the tourist drives are open all day (providing no other car event is on) and I'm told it is much busier on the track. So personally I like the idea of exploring in the day time and track session in the evening. One place we never got too as we ran out of time was the Geierlay suspension bridge. Not too far away, no doubt a nice drive there and something a bit different to see. I'm sure there's loads more also to see and do. https://www.racetracker.de for all your track photos which are good value and available next day. Anyway. I hope this inspires someone else to visit. If I can provide any more info just ask. I'm thinking of organising a future trip in the Westfields. Ben
