We have just returned from a fantastic few days away to the ring. My lad wanted to experience driving abroad now he's old enough too and suggested the Nurburgring. It seemed like a nice little trip in the Westfield. Not too far 320 odd miles each way. A total of 800 ish miles in 3 days. We got the tunnel across to Calais (£160 each). We travelled along the E42 (avoiding Brussels on the E40) but dived off that at Verviers and went down past Spa and towards Prum and Gerolstein. That last hour or so was beautiful driving roads. The temperature got hotter and hotter as we got closer. 25-26 deg the whole time and not a cloud in the sky. After a few fuel/lunch stop we arrived at our base for the next few nights. The Gantry, in Drees. https://www.facebook.com/thenurburgringgantry Just a couple of kilometres from the centre of Nurburgring. Lovely quiet little village. Owned by a friendly British family. The place had everything we needed. On suite, comunal kitchen, games room etc, plenty of parking both on the driveway and in the barn. All felt secure and I left mine outside everynight. Priced at 100 euros per night for a twin room, I thought that was really good value. Nicks wife Tanja informed us of directions to the various places we wished to go. The area is easy to navigate and all on perfect tarmac twisty roads! A fuel stop nearby, the famous "you tube corner" properly named as Brunnchen just down the road, Nordschleife, the entrance to the circuit the other direction. That evening we did our first lap of the ring after purchasing a Green hell card (which you just top up as required) from the ticket office at the track entrance. It wasn't too busy I was told for this time of year. The evening session was 5pm - 7.30 pm. During the day time the circuit was hired for Gran Turismo which was fantastic to watch. As they all exited off we went. You pretty much just drive on and drive off as you wish. One lap cost 30 euros, (£26). We bumped into Nick after at the Devils diner and he took us out for a couple of laps in his own Renault Megane Cup 250. (that was an eye opener! and made me realise how slow we were!). There was a good mix of cars ranging from day trippers that had left their caravan at the camp site and popped down to drive the ring, and local regulars in Lambos and Corvettes! I can honestly say I have never seen so many Porsche GT3 RS's. They were everywhere! After some dinner at an Italian restaurant called Lucia up by the visitor centre we had an earlyish night as we were knackered. The following morning, we spent the day exploring the twistys, watched some more racing at various points around the 20km circuit and visited the toboggan for a giggle. We had lunch at the Cock Pit, in Adenau and then was ready again for the evening session. After a few more laps, getting more confident and a bit quicker each time it came to a halt when a German crashed his BMW quite badly and the circuit closed for a while. At that point, we decided to quit while we were ahead and spectate the rest of the session knowing that we had successfully done enough laps each to justify our proudly placed stickers on our cars! We enjoyed some more twisty sunset lit roads before bed for the last day. Next morning, more coffee and croissants in the sunshine sat outside a local Patisserie started the day. We visited the Nurburgring museum which was fantastic value for 11 euros. Very interactive and some amazing cars and simulators etc. We then did the electric go karts at the Kartbarn next door. Again, 15 euros for 10 mins, and these were impressive. If we had more time we would have done more of that! But we had to head home for a late evening train back to Folkestone. The route I chose was twists across the Ardene towards Namur and then back onto the E42. It wasn't as impressive as the way down. Next time i'd go that way both ways. The traffic was a bit heavier and lots of HGV's on smaller roads which you got stuck behind and had a job to pass which became frustrating in the heat. But you get the idea. If its on your list. You need to experience the place. I have never been anywhere quite like it before. Pure petrol head heaven with super cars everywhere you turn. My only negatives. I wished we had planned maybe another day or two and taken some suncream! If the weather was poor, it would not have been as great as it was. We were extremely lucky. When we got off the tunnel in the UK it was grey and drizzle... For anyone thinking about it. Read up on the risks if you are unfortunate and have an accident. Also look at the official website diary to check what's on. 2-5th June was a massive Rock Am Ring concert so the area was getting really busy as we were leaving. Also on weekends the tourist drives are open all day (providing no other car event is on) and I'm told it is much busier on the track. So personally I like the idea of exploring in the day time and track session in the evening. One place we never got too as we ran out of time was the Geierlay suspension bridge. Not too far away, no doubt a nice drive there and something a bit different to see. I'm sure there's loads more also to see and do. https://www.racetracker.de for all your track photos which are good value and available next day. Anyway. I hope this inspires someone else to visit. If I can provide any more info just ask. I'm thinking of organising a future trip in the Westfields. Ben8 points

I am changing my motorhome so have my 4 berth Motorhome for sale. This is a 2018 model with tow bar, large through garage, two double beds (one lowers electrically from ceiling). Really good quality, spacious and has Thule awning. Mileage is 18000 and has MOT for about 11 months. It has toilet, shower, oven , hob, large fridge and lots of fancy interior lighting. There is lots more to list about this but if anyone is really interested please contact me for pics etc I would like £65000 £60000 as they are selling at the dealers for around £75000- £80000 at the moment. It will be going on auto trader next week. Burstner are probably one of the best you can buy3 points

Hi all. I've just joined the club, so thought I'd drop in and introduce myself before I start posting. I recently bought an 04 widebody ZX10R, which is my second kit car following my first one (F27 blade) that I sold in lockdown, due to fear of impending poverty. That didn't quite happen and here I am 3 years later, with an upgraded version. Apart from the car stuff, my name is Darren, 38, GSOH and I like candlelit dinners and long romantic walks in the park.2 points

Sadly, I was travelling back from the South West last night so couldn't get the Westfield out to play.... I do hate it when work gets in the way of fun! 😂 Thankfully Iain and Rachael brought the Luego and Raymond brought his track focused Westfield out. It was great Iain and Rachael had got the Luego sorted following a little spin going to Curborough a few weeks back. The car was driveable after the "WSCC roadside assistance service" had worked some magic but a rear upright needed attention. Thankfully fellow member Ben had managed to repair the minor damage and the car is better than ever! Gary and Del had got there early to do some planning for their annual Le Mans trip, definitely something I need to myself do at some point. I'd not met long time member and owner Raymond before so it was great to meet a new (to me at least!) face and learn all about him, his track day exploits and his car. Great to meet you, I'm looking forward to seeing you and the car on track at Donington on the 18th July! Packing cars for Malvern, holidays and work commitments had hit us a little on attendance but we still had a great evening. Obviously Malvern was at the forefront of people's minds, with loads of laughs about last year's camping disasters! Talking of camping disasters, im looking forward to seeing loads of you over the weekend! 👍2 points

I am still building my ZK kit that I bought in November 2020 - I guess it may be one of the very last cars from the old company to be completed - is that a good thing or bad I wonder? As everyone who has built a Westfield from a kit knows, there will be parts missing but of course when the company no longer exists to send out the parts by return as they used to, you are cut adrift. Well, today, while struggling with GRP that is 30 months old (not sure that age is actually a major factor - it's more of a problem with consistency of manufacture) I discovered that there was no fitting kit for the hood. I thought I had been through the picking list enough times to have ensured that I had everything but of course, with the huge gaps in the documentation provided with the ZK kit you don't actually know what you need until you realise that you haven't got it! So I spoke to Ewan and Jason at Westfield-Chesil to ask if they were able to help a customer of the old company to obtain the missing parts. While they made it clear that they can have no formal obligation to customers of Westfield Sportscars, they were both super helpful and after a bit of investigation into what is needed to fit the standard ZK hood they have identified the missing parts - the three part press studs - and agreed to supply them - great! Hopefully I'll be collecting them at Malvern on Saturday. It's good to know that there is still support available when you need it.2 points

Hi Steve, I cannot help with the dimensions but I built my own motorhome and two mates have done the same. I would suggest that you go and see as many built van conversions as possible first and don't tie your self to having a Sprinter or Crafter. It depends upon age but they tend to rot if not looked after especially high mileage. Look what converters use and at the moment they are going for Ducato and Citroen and there is good reason. They are very square as many vans taper at the top which you lose space. If I was building another that is what I would chose, spares and servicing available everywhere in the UK and EU. Mine was built 17 years ago and still looks good but fading paint as commercial vehicles tend to have a quick splash. All the bits we bought from Magnum Motorhomes in Cleethorpes trim wise and we built everything else. If you buy proper caravan motorhome products the weight is very light, it is easy to use normal thickness goods and have a heavy van, leaving little for towing. Upholstery material off Ebay. It has shower and toilet but I did not go for on board water and waste as it is unnecessary weight to drag around. The van was two years old when bought and the first thing I did was go to town on waxoyle everything in every box section as you cannot get to them afterwards. Also make sure that the trim fasteners are siliconed, the sprinters are bad for water ingress from them. Good insulation is a must. Plan you electric runs early on. Pictures below what you can produce with a good plan. HTH1 point

Yes, the Dorset monthly meets happen there, normally first Thursday of the month. Somerset tends to join in too, I’m in Crewkerne. We are heading to Malvern this weekend like quite a few others. We’ve had a few ad hoc drives too and went to a Haynes Museum meet the other week. Hopefully more with this good weather too. Would be good to see you, orange seems to be the colour of choice 🤣 👍1 point

Not just a classic. If anyone is looking for something "interesting" then check the tax. Vehicles registered after 1st April 2017 attract lower road tax in some instances. For example, a Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 registered on 31st March 2017 attracts £650 a year in road tax. The same car registered the next day is £165. So when "thumbing through" Autotrader looking for the next fun wagon, check the running costs section!!!1 point

One of the criteria for historic vehicles is that they don't pay road tax, nor do they have to pass an MOT in some circumstances. It is (supposed to be) about emissions, but for the majority. The theory is the number of "historic" vehicles on the road is likely to be insignificant and therefore there is a blanket exemption for them.1 point

I hadn't realised that we will do 1 3/4 laps, last time I was at Pembrey was with the VSCC and we did less than a lap. The corner Honda looks particularly challenging, almost flat out with little run off before the Armco.1 point

@Mark Redpath - WSCC Membership Secretary will be issuing his report at the AGM next week that will have the number, but it will probably be in that region. It’s interesting to note that number compared to the number of Westfields taxed and on the road during Q2 & Q3 the last few years, pre- and during Covid. Considering there’s 1.2k - 1.3k Westfields taxed and on the road, it means roughly 70-80% of those owners are club members - a pretty good reach.1 point
