  4. We had to do a bit of weather dodging this morning with isolated showers in various places, luckily we avoided most of it! Ash and I met up at the usual A38/A50 services at 9am. As had been busy with upgrades since we met yesterday, now sporting carbon flared sides! A few miles up the A38, we dropped into the Shell garage on the A6 to collect Steve. No time for a photo though, as James had landed at our third meeting point in Wirksworth having driven all the way from Grantham. A quick meet and greet with James in Wirksworth and we were off picking up one of my favourite roads, the B5056 from Grangemill for a spirited blat down the twisties... we then peeled off through Youlgreave to cut cross country. The roads were really quiet, giving us chance to stretch the legs of the XE, Zetec, Xflow and S2000! Landing at Monyash just after 10, we found Glynn already there casually sporting a mug of tea πŸ˜‚ With us all needing to be back at a reasonable time, we had a good chat about all things cars, polished off a hearty breakfast and then made plans for heading home. We decided on a 5 car convoy across to Cromford (to avoid the roadworks chaos of Matlock) where Ash and I headed south through Wirksworth while Glynn, Steve and James headed East down past Ambergate. Another cracking day out with great mates and amazing cars πŸ‘Œ

  5. This morning 5 of us braved the changeable weather to visit Re:fuel (Malcolm & Dale in their Mini Van). We met up at Ilminster Services and after a spirited drive down the back roads of Somerset/Devon arrived just before 09:00 to be parked between an Aston Martin and two Bugattis by fellow WSSC member Colin @Haflingerman who was acting as parking attendant for the Crashbox Classic Car Club. Some photos of the Bugattis for interest. Return journey was hoods off as the rain had stopped.....

  6. Great turn out today, 12 cars, 10 Westfields and 2 MNRs. Met up for breakfast at 10, then drove over to the Motorist and parked in a boggy field. Had some fun watching a BMW get stuck in 1 inch of mud. And Barry in his Fiesta.

  10. A short notice trip to the Triumph Factory in Hinckley this morning for a Collecting Cars event. There was loads to see, with much more variety than I had expected. I even spotted a Westy hiding in the outer carpark too. The only negative thing about the whole trip was that I suspect it was more popular than the factory expected, and they'd run out of bacon by the time I wanted a bacon roll. A vegan sausage roll and a pastie just didn't cut it! I couldn't miss taking this photo, for the sense of scale if nothing else! A very full inner carpark, with the outer ones filling quickly. Opposite ends of the BMZ Z car scale. Some Old Skool Fords. Its always good to see GT40s! Really surprised to see not one, but two, Stratos reps appear together.

  11. Cracking afternoon for a decent run out. Followed a good recommendation and drove up to AV8 Cafe at Cotswold Airport, seems to be a bit of a gathering point for nice cars and bikes. And some big and small flying machines of course….

  12. I have spent the last couple of days following this rally - mainly prewar high end vintage cars, being put through their paces on the back roads of Northern England / Scotland. HERO Events - Flying Scotsman 2023 Not sure I would take my 1/2 million pound Bentley through these conditions (But there were about 25 of them that did!) Last day is tomorrow, heading North from an overnight stop near Edinburgh. Good set of photos taken today here.. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fphotos.app.goo.gl%2FfR9Lg9v23MUoFNfbA%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR0iLPC2LYzj6oKxNUm6tbnyO_p6LSaJT4nbTIajjv_Ya5VaLmjNzTnxtZs&h=AT2Pm4UOaH_eQAKF9VCshiLIAWIgutKBaxYPxbuUYQlltn-tC847l7SFC6yh4CLqaV_ZJqllxcgYMLQyEfaV07i1kVUC55A4rAiCT7iAa7cbCNdfRYT2L1AKf1ubMgWAYJZ8KjtuGBVpib9hEkHH&__tn__=R]-R&c[0]=AT2w_ZBQ_IzCB7PjNMuUeM6-H8llG8qY2YGQrMjzzs4rhhueCFB7JwzT7LuiGdc6vKJdVMyLf95A9tSyCEvJzeXrPx50JNxiroQ17qNKwg25ejKiRLu3zoDKKtltYNW1nzBFDXVi5HV816akA4XSmTnGizGpIDzyRqz6YWZ6JjIBh7Fn0McvmtlBg16_IsBysBVcsaEt2HOs

  15. Its certainly how I like to see these cars, being used and abused rather than polished up in a museum. Rich eccentrics is probably right! Seeing some of the damage on the cars shows how they were driven hard, as some of the tests were on loose gravel. Met Dave Richards yesterday (Prodrive MD/ ex Aston, Benetton etc) who is on the organising team, and takes a hands on approach, driving one of the support team cars. 17. The local Halfords had a bit of a car show on this morning πŸ˜‚ 4 Westies and Paul's lovely VX220 Turbo πŸ‘Œ It was great to see Colin back out after the recent gearbox swap you may have seen on YouTube, the car seems to be running really well now. After a good catch up and a chat about all things cars (including about Paul's Ford Model T and his recent run out to the Shuttleworth Collection) we headed south west through the lanes to Curborough. We always seem to get a great turnout for our breakfast meets here. It's a real hidden gem with free spectating, a big car park, a good value cafe, public access to the paddock and a real mix of interesting cars. The five of us landed and found a dry spot to park up and were quickly followed by Ash in his narrow body car. Then a few minutes later a Westfield I didn't recognise.... this turned out to be Martyn who had brought his son all the way from Coventry, great to meet you today! A little while later Lee and his wife landed in the Megablade and then the jet setting Tim (just back from the US) arrived making a total of 8 Westfields and the VX220! A stunning line up. Some unusual cars in the car park too.... Having not seen Ash's car for a while we spotted some recent upgrades... Sexy new LED lights 😍 A fun morning, now what to do tomorrow!? πŸ˜‚
