I think many questions will be answered on 13 May at the factory open day, including pricing, quality improvements, specifications, etc.2 points

Usual drawing office japes of sending junior to get a long stand and weight for our drawing board. They always thought circle template was a joke, it wasn't. Asking for a Drafting Licence application from the post office. Detailing a sky hook. Once when delivering a large pack of drawings to an Architect, our junior was also issued with a pack of four bricks, to take with him (he didn't know they were bricks) ....... when arriving at Architects who were in on joke they told him that they were wrong colour brick samples and he need to take them back ..... he wasn't happy and dumped them at Leeds train station ........ on arriving back he was asked for bricks so that we could change them with suppliers rep....... "double hit" as he tried to make up every excuse he could. Brimingham to Leeds is quite a journey with 4 bricks in hand2 points

Tipping a bucket of water under the loo door in the workshop . Then atomising that water from a high pressure airline. It turned the loo into an instant shower room and soaked anyone daft enough to have gone in without disconnecting and taking the air line with them.2 points

Westfield SE 1996 Narrow Body in British Racing Green 26k miles. Around 125hp NEW MOT It has had extensive work over the last 3 years on it's Ford Pinto engine (around £3k worth of work to the engine alone and £900 in the last month!) so it's really been looked after regardless of expense. £000’s spent (more than I expected to!). It has been my first Westie and now got the bug - am looking to upgrade to newer & bigger Westie - having been to a few of the owners days! Works done in the last 18 months - Cylinder head skimmed and reconditioned New camshaft and exhaust valves Cam belt Full carb rebuild - including sonic cleaning, new seals kit etc Oil filter and oil Replacement block (with a reconditioned one) Block honed Piston rings Replace bent valve rods (replaced all rods I think?) New plugs New head gasket New Wheel arch stays New Front suspension arms (upper and lower), including new poly bushes New Track rod ends New Front headlight stays New Starter motor New Exhaust wrap New 4 point harnesses (TRS) New seats New indicator pods New front discs and pads New alternator New coil Last month I fitted a new head with bronze valve guides, an FR32 Camshaft and double springs, and had everything tuned with a classic specialist It has full wet weather gear consisting of 2 x doors, and a Soft Bits hood that has been customised to fit a narrow body. I’ve got 2 trailing arms (of 4 needed) and. Comes with exterior car cover too (cost £250 new) Couple of marks on body - Rear arch tops where the screens sit Inside of nose cone - looks like a Dremmel cut about an inch long, not hugely noticeable. Engine bay clean for age of car Chassis and underside good (again, for age of car!) I also have a A4 lever arch file of history, including pictures of the kit being delivered to first owner! I'm 5 ft 10 and fit it perfectly, I'd suggest 6 ft and less would be comfortable with the right footwear. £6,500 Ono. Located in Lincolnshire.1 point

I seem to remember XI owners making a myriad of very helpful comments and observations regarding improvements to design, build quality, build manual and components, which WC Ltd received enthusiastically (which definitely wasn’t the case over the lifespan of WSC Ltd). If all of those have been implemented, and we all hope they have, there may well be a price to pay in future for those improvements. Anyway, it’s impossible to judge based on website prices alone. Looking forward to 13 May and seeing things in the flesh 😎👍1 point

My dad tells a story from when he was a stockman back in the '60s. He was working on a 10,000 acre farm which was large enough that there was a certain turnover of stockmen/shepherds/farmhands, so there was always a new guy. One of the initiations was to lock the newbie in the 8ft round concrete slaughter hut, which when the door was closed was pitch dark, the only reference being the walls and the sometimes hanging carcass in the centre. But on this one occasion, unbeknown to everyone involved, two wild cats had got in through the offal drain. By the time they had got the new guy back out, he had been shredded! Incidently, my dad, rolling a smoke...1 point

People are always been sent off to get a left-handed screwdriver or a two-tone spray can and the like. When I was in the Airforce, there was a young newbie in my trade who was sent up to the Medical Flight to get two fallopian tubes - he was nicknamed Tubes for the rest of his days.1 point

Funny you should mention that, as I’ve just seen pricing on the website; the FE Zetec kit comes in at £33.5k (£35k if bought in stages)?? By the time you’ve added on most of the upgrades (about £7.5k), you’re looking at a £40k+ vehicle! Then there’s always the option to have it built at the factory for an additional £6.5k…. At £47k, I wonder how many kits they’re likely to sell…. Or have I misunderstood the pricing? Does anyone know how much the kits were previously? I seem to recall paying about £9-10k for my kit about 2.5yrs ago, which excluded engine, drivetrain and ECU/fuelling. I appreciate that most things in life have gone up in cost over the past couple of years, but I’m not really sure how this will stand them in the market against the likes of 7-esque suppliers? MK starter SDV kits are about £10k plus cost of donor vehicle (Westfield looking at £18k Mazda SDV kit), and even the C*terham 170 (entry level model) complete from the factory is only about £30k OTR from memory. Think I expressed my thoughts in a previous post that I *really* want Westfield and the brand to return and be successful (as I’m sure most of the club do too), but their pricing seems to suggest they’re targeting a different market now than before. I hope the parts department doesn’t get too greedy with their pricing as well, especially now that people have been directed towards suitable alternative suppliers in the interim of the company operating. Whilst I’d like to support the business, with the current economic climate people are no doubt watching the pennies and tightening purse strings!1 point

Proper C/F housings for the side/indicator lamps came from AP Carbon (unsure if Ashley is still an active member on here). Think they were about £375 per pair, and 6-8 week lead time. He doesn’t do the single lamp holders. All the WF ones are carbon-effect ABS plastic.1 point

Mine is now taxed moted and ready to go see you there1 point

Lamp units available as above, just not the housings shown in the picture; they are a Westfield-only part, unless you want to pay $ for carbon ones!1 point

Cracking little meet up! We ended up with 10 of us... 6 Westfields, Lee in his lovely Capri, Gary in his 2ZZ engined MR2, Ben in the Caddy (as the MNR is due a spanner check after a recent Donington track day) and I'd got my 16yr old stepson riding shotgun for his first Curburgring visit (the lure of a bacon sandwich helped get him out of bed 😂). We were scattered across the car park initially so took the opportunity to get a line up photo or two Admiring Lee's stunning 2.0 Capri Laser. Hedley press ganged an unsuspecting spectator into choosing the best looking Westfield, with Lee and Tom's British Racing Green Megablade being declared the winner (she was obviously colour blind as we all know that red is best 😉). Having had a brew and sandwich we all headed for the paddock to admire the Austin 7 specials that were going out on track. Amazing to think that the Austin 7 will celebrate its 100 years this year as these cars were absolutely stunning! Some cars were actually getting up to some respectable speeds on track considering the tiny 700cc side valve, pre crossflow engines. What a stunning little car! This beauty had its first start up just 3 days ago since its rebuild. Stunning woodworking skills on display for the rear tub and a trick Ricardo cylinder head. Look at those forward facing front leaf springs clamped to the chassis rails... Isn't it amazing what people keep locked up in their garages?! Fantastic to see them being used and driven hard rather then just being museum pieces, bravo 👏 Great to see everyone, hope you enjoyed the morning 👍1 point

Another few… High school teacher had a Volkswagen Beetle. We took the domed hubcaps off and sellotaped some ball bearings to the inside. They worked loose once he got up to speed and went round and round inside the hubcaps, sounding like the wheel bearings had failed. Same teacher, we put rice down the air vents in front of the windscreen. Once he turned the interior vent fan on, he was promptly pebble-dashed. … At work one day, the whole office was having a bad morning thanks to our two 💩💩 bosses and everyone was very down emotionally, so I thought we all needed a bit of a lift. The bathrooms were tiny, single occupancy units, about 4' wide by 7’ long. Each one had a loo, a sink, a mirror and a hot air hand dryer with a rotating nozzle so you could also point it upwards and dry your hair - which no one ever did, of course. I emptied all the hole punch machines in the office and took the thousands of paper dots in a paper cup into the ladies room, turned the hand dryer nozzle towards the ceiling and filled it up. What I thought would happen is that one of the ladies would go in, do her thing, wash her hands, go to dry her hands and rotate the nozzle downwards, and all the dots would fall out and make a big mess. What actually happened (from later reports) was that the female office manager went in, dropped her drawers, sat down, and to cover the sound of her peeing, hit the button. So there she is, knickers around her ankles, interfaced with the toilet, and suddenly in the middle of a violent snowstorm. Of course, the fan is on a timer and won’t shut off for 20 seconds, so the snowstorm lasted a bit. According to her, the dots got EVERYWHERE. Next thing I knew, she flew out in a rage, leaving a cloud of dots in her wake. For some reason, she immediately blamed me even though everyone was laughing at her anger. No idea why - I’m so innocent. 😇1 point

A few from my youth. Van de Graaff generator wired to the door handle at college. Made our tutor jump when he came in. I cooked up some ammonium tri-iodide and planted it under some newspaper in the threshold of the 6th form common room. Produced loud ‘cracks’ and puffs of purple smoke as people came in. This one backfired a bit though. Once I thought all the fun had been had, I gathered up the newspaper and put it in the bin. The following day there was a bit of a scandal as the cleaner had emptied the bin and it exploded…..other than iodine stained fingers and the shock, she was fine, but I was mortified. For the record, I did fess up and apologised to her. Converted a traffic cone to remote control and had it perform laps behind the headmaster during an important speech. From work, not much opportunity for nonsense really, so they tended to be pretty lame. When doing password resets I had a habit of picking stupid ones for certain people. In the early days of our work network running Windows clients with network cached user profiles, again, for certain ‘special’ people I’d edit the user data so when they logged in they got all the desktop colours set to black, and the origin of the main display set off-screen so nothing was visible. Again, for some ‘special’ people I’d install tweaked system sound effects. All very nerdy and mostly harmless…. Not mine, but memorable, a much loved staff member was leaving. Our site was at the top of a hill. Someone wired the horn on his car to the brake lights. You can imagine the result as he rolled down the drive honking as he went. Another one not mine but very good. A colleague was notorious for being late for work. One of his shift ‘mates’ got an exceptionally loud ‘ahoooogha’ style klaxon, hid it in his workbench drawer and wired it so it sounded when the guy came in and hit the breaker. Another staff departure, got a roll of giant bubble-wrap, cut a strip about a foot wide and 19 foot long, bundled it up above a front tyre and gaffer taped one end to the tyre so when he drove off, the bubble-wrap got pulled under the tyre. Made a fantastic noise and got the desired reaction. I was the recipient of a good one on my 40th birthday. A long time mate shot and edited an entire fake news piece about me, local footage, interviews with people, the whole works, then cut it into a real news program and finished it off with a ‘happy birthday’ message from the well known presenter. The final trick was to set up a perfectly timed replay and put it on screen so I could be called to watch it as if it was live on air. Had me going for a short while when I saw my home village and then house on the TV on what I thought was that days live news.1 point
