  2. What the postie brought today - my new kit bag! Been using random bags to carry gloves and stuff in the cabin and was thinking of getting something just for the car, saw this in the form shop and couldn’t resist…

  3. I realise that Norfolk is a large county and that several of you who supported my first event last Saturday came from Cambridgeshire and even Lincolnshire (thanks Andrew). However, in an attempt to attract other Norfolk members next time I am planning to arrange a visit to the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton on Saturday, May 20th. Please let me know if you would like to join this visit at your earliest convenience because if there are no takers I will have to go back to the drawing board!

  6. Our first Kent area meet up today was a tad on the Wet side! Tin tops all round, but 11 of us for a first one was great to see. Roll on summer….!

  7. A couple of the Essex club members expressed interest in the “aerorace-style” radiator ducting for cars with the uprated Polo/Coolex rad (may fit original Polo rad, but would need checking)…. Picture is a gallery image just to give you an idea. I’ve had quotes back to make a batch up by local engineering firm, and was just gauging numbers if I was to progress. Prices are looking around £32 for the four pieces made out of 2mm aluminium (as I asked for small batch of 10 units). If easier, I could bundle together a kit with the bolts and rivets needed as well, but this would probably add a couple of extra quid. So far I’ve had 3 confirmed requests, but looking to see if there’s anyone else that would like one as I have to make it to 10 items to be viable (or the price increases by £10 a set). I’m not doing this as a business venture, just looking for cost recovery! Lead time would be about 2-3 weeks. Opening out to the club to try and boost numbers. Ideally collection from Chelmsford, Essex, but could post if you’re happy to pay for it!

  9. Did some more over the weekend, mainly adding the diagonal straps, reinforcing the holes for the roll bar bolts and putting in the rear window. I made a bit of a hash first time round, and it didn’t look very good as the window wasn’t tensioned enough. I then got some double sided sticky tape which held things in place much better and allow me to finish it off nicely. My stitching is more akin to a slalom course than a straight sprint, but it does the job 🤪 First attempt….wrinkly! 🥴 Second go…. better! 😊 View through the rear view mirror now…

  10. It’s not really a meeting place, just somewhere to pull in off the main road 👍🏼

  14. @Baz456 - Norfolk AO That's great! Maybe you could tag the interested people in the thread so I can add them to the update list when I know more? I will get back to the lady and let her know that we have interest for about 6 (so far) and reserve a spot for WSCC. Apparently they are trialing a new payment method which will allow people attending with a club to book there own tickets online. When it is ready. But there will be a booking fee, I will let every one know if this become the method to use. Also, there is an important rule that we will all need to abide by; All arrive on site before 11am. And. Nobody leaves before 4pm. Apart from that, there is food, entertainment, beer and cars!

  15. Of course that is an option but I have bought the column now, so looking to see if anyone has an outer tube "under their bench" before I consider alternatives. Thanks Simon

  16. It was dry when we left home, but soon changed and we got a little damp on the way there. We were also a bit late I think, due to the clocks changing, as it was fairly quiet when we arrived at 10.45. Still, there were some interesting vehicles to see, and a lot of people interested in the XI. One guy was so interested that he nearly got run over as he turned round at the sound of the engine. The turning circle, or lack there of, also proved a surprise to some. People were trying to be helpful and stopping to let us maneuver, only to need to step even further back.

  17. Thanks to all who came along for the first meet despite the awful weather! 11 of us, fantastic turn out. Hopefully the start of a regular monthly meet, which going forward will be on the last Sunday of every month. (location to be decided in the next couple of weeks)

  21. Some great progress today. I’ve got all the main machining done to create the shape, plus four straps and their anchor points. Pretty pleased with it I must confess. The sewing is a bit rough in places but actually it all looks fine. I will cut a rear window in as the proper ones have, and add angled straps as well. Then some finishing edging to make it look a bit more professional. I may also add easy access zips as it is a bit tricky getting in as it is. I took it out for a run this afternoon and it’s great! It might be my imagination but it seems to help the aerodynamics a bit so it feels a bit quicker accelerating above sixty odd. It felt very solid though, the roof bars really help, as does the single hoop which I’ve used; this adds height and tensions the hood really well so there is no flapping at all.

  22. Thank you @Baz456 - Norfolk AOfor organising today. Hopefully your efforts will lead to a successful and active Norfolk/Suffolk group. I’ll leave it up to you to post photos but once again - thanks. 😁

  23. I was having problems with stitching vinyl for my half hood conversion on my sewing machine because the vinyl was too sticky. After a bit of YouTubing, I bought myself a Teflon foot which seems to work very well indeed.

  25. …or maybe not… 😬 Amazingly and thankfully, only minor injuries. Looks like failure of a cheap wheel spacer for posing purposes.
