  1. I was having problems with stitching vinyl for my half hood conversion on my sewing machine because the vinyl was too sticky. After a bit of YouTubing, I bought myself a Teflon foot which seems to work very well indeed.

  3. A couple of the Essex club members expressed interest in the “aerorace-style” radiator ducting for cars with the uprated Polo/Coolex rad (may fit original Polo rad, but would need checking)…. Picture is a gallery image just to give you an idea. I’ve had quotes back to make a batch up by local engineering firm, and was just gauging numbers if I was to progress. Prices are looking around £32 for the four pieces made out of 2mm aluminium (as I asked for small batch of 10 units). If easier, I could bundle together a kit with the bolts and rivets needed as well, but this would probably add a couple of extra quid. So far I’ve had 3 confirmed requests, but looking to see if there’s anyone else that would like one as I have to make it to 10 items to be viable (or the price increases by £10 a set). I’m not doing this as a business venture, just looking for cost recovery! Lead time would be about 2-3 weeks. Opening out to the club to try and boost numbers. Ideally collection from Chelmsford, Essex, but could post if you’re happy to pay for it!

  8. I've been asked by a biking friend and neighbour if the WSCC would like to join a charity event- https://www.starbikers.co.uk/ There's not loads of parking, so no more than 5 Westies in attendance, please. Admission to the event will be free for the 5 members with cars along with free soft drinks. Please put your name below if interested and I'll co-ordinate with the neighbour, who's one of the event organisers. Thanks, Ian

  11. I think from the thread drift it depends on the ECU to a certain extent? Also, happy to use moderator powers to split the thread (entirely up to you as the originator 👍)

  12. Oops. We have had a bit of thread drift, but loosely connected 😉 Back on topic, I'd suggest getting some pics up and perhaps a link to a video of it running? Good luck with the sale. Ian

  15. I’ll start by saying that I have no experience in tuning/mapping. I do have experience of running a car that wasn’t well mapped, then being delighted at how much better the car ran when mapped properly. My Duratec on ITBs runs “ok” at the moment. But it does smell like it’s running rich, often wants to or actually stalls when coming to idle (when warm or hot) and I’m not a big fan of pops and bangs (which it does). There’s a receipt for purchase of a cable (pictured previously) and at attempt at tuning (in Germany) a couple of years ago. So I guess I’m currently blindly trusting what’s been done previously to it. That would be my primary reason for checking what’s there/changing for a solution that can be checked. I’m located in the south east of England near Dover.

  17. Cheapest new ECU will likely be a megasquirt or speeduino kit - otherwise you’re looking at £6-800+ for an Omex, DTA, MBE or Emerald item. Add in wiring loom mods and a mapping session to see you north of £1000… I suppose the question is why? Are you planning to upgrade and tune the engine?

  18. Some Weber units, the last generation I believe, didn’t have the dongle system for unlocking them, but, while I’d be thrilled to find out someone still could, every specialist I’ve spoke to from Northampton Motorsport, (another Weber Alpha dealer in the day) to the uk Weber Alpha distributor has told me the last working dongle failed a few years ago, now, leaving that generation of ecu’s permanently locked on their last map.

  20. So a quick update - TP-Link contacted me again and asked if my case was still open or closed. Unbelievable. My reply was rather short - “You closed it through your poor decision not to give me a replacement.” 🤬🤬🤬 On a better news front, I did a bit of research and found that as I’m with Virgin Media for broadband and TV, they offer WiFi Pods. These aren’t extenders like TP-Link that uses the house’s electric mains wiring, but signal boosters (or repeaters). They just plug in to the mains (socket or power strip) up to one floor or two rooms away from the hub or router. Brain-dead setup - no buttons, no settings, just plug it in and wait 10 minutes. Best news is they’re free - up to 3 pods, although they wisely only send you one at a time until you’ve got sufficient coverage. I contacted Virgin Media on Tuesday lunchtime and ordered one, which they said would take 3 working days. It showed up the next day at 11 AM! So I went upstairs and plugged it in somewhere fairly central within the prescribed limits and waited. 10 minutes later, voila! All the upstairs dead spots eliminated. Same network, no setup hassles, no firmware updates - simple. Well chuffed. I’ll get one more for the basement office just to boost that a bit and connect a cable from it to the desktop. So if you’re on Virgin Media and need to boost your WiFi, you really can’t go wrong for free.
