  8. Congratulations to both of you. In these days of marriages failing it is wonderful to see there are still some of us who a still going strong. Ours is 43 years next week and so far the signs are good for that to continue. Hope you both have a great day

  12. Lets see... With just about every support call of this nature, the first thing the tech guys want to do is put on the latest firmware to see if that solves the problem. It's what they do if/when it doesn't that counts. Good luck ETA, just reminding myself of my warblings on this thread. They're 3 years old so Sale of Goods act applies in lieu of a guarantee. If they turn out to be faulty, given that there is not much one could do to break them in normal use, invoke Sale of Goods act conditions and see if that gets you anywhere, on the assumption they start to resist if the fault persists after the firmware upgrade.

  13. Normal “paint” orientated products will work ok on GRP, usually. They generally just need a bit more work. GRP specific cut and polishing products differ by the amount of cut, the GRP cutting compounds especially are usually more aggressive, than the paint equivalent. But also, once you start moving on to coatings, GRP specific ones, (especially, marine, which many are) will have more UV protection than normal automotive for paint and may have a few more marine specific qualities for sea/sea life exposure. When it comes to work horse cutting products, 3M have some very good compounds, GRP specific. (Farucla G10 is still very popular, too, for initial use after wet and drying, or harsh cutting, there are better these days, though, such as the much newer 3M product) With any of these in GRP, it can be done by hand, but for cutting especially doing the whole car, either a DA or a rotary pays dividends.

  14. Depends on your diff to some extent. If you have push in shafts you need to find some rare push in disc uprights. Then get your current shafts shortened. You will need the whole upright, hub, disc caliper combo, but wishbones are the same. If you can’t find push in uprights, then you need to have a lobro (bolt on) diff to match the more common uprights, complete with new shafts, hubs, discs, calipers. Then you need new wheels and arches to suit the narrower track. Chuffin expensive (ask me how I know) It makes the car handle better though 😁

  15. Unfortunately the Sierra SDV upright design was not the best, top mount is only 2/3rds as wide as a standard SEI W one, couple this to the fact that the unsprung weight on the SDV by virtue of retaining the original hub is significantly higher means that there is inherent weakness in the design. For my sins I broke 2, learnt my lesson and now have standard Golf SEI W uprights and Siltech wishbones, not a cheap conversion but well worth it if your budget goes this far. Good luck with your search!

  16. Hi All, I'm very pleased to report that I have 12 names on my list for March 25th. The table is booked for 1pm, so please try to arrive in good time. If the weather is fine, I suggest we assemble in the car park so I can introduce myself. If for any reason you are now unable to attend please let me know. I am also waiting to hear from a couple of you about having a passenger or not. Many thanks, Barry
