After being inactive since Christmas, I thought it was time I tried to sort my non-starting issues. Not started for 7 weeks, I tried it this afternoon, and it tried to start. After cleaning the battery terminals it started. Put the battery on charge for a while, and it started on the button. I had to bite the bullet and take it out. Everything fine, and a run of a mile or so everything great. Then it started banging, popping and missing. Then nothing. Dead again. Only half a mile from home, but uphill all the way so no chance of pushing. AA called again, and were with me in 25 minutes. Diagnosis, king lead from coil to distributor not screwed in correctly. Started up and driven home with the AA following. Car tucked up in the garage until I can replace leads, plugs etc. Hopefully that's where my problems were, and I'm on the way again.4 points

My car is finally back from the garage working again 👌. I am unfortunately already committed to daddy duties tomorrow, and I wouldn't make it back in time for yet another children's birthday party 🤦. I will make one (and more) I promise 🤝3 points

Good morning all. I was a club member and forum regular nearly 20 years ago (stew72 - hence the new user name). I owned a 2.1 pinto powered 1990 SEiW in maroon, registration number Q446 JOD from 2003 to 2004. Regrettably i had to sell when we started a family. I've always missed that car and would love to track it down. I can see from the MOT history that its not had an MOT since 2013. Looking at the DVLA history a new V5 was issued last year, its now a SEi, it has a 2000cc engine and is now blue! I guess a lot has changed! Does anyone have any information on the car? Many thanks.2 points

Yep, you can do it on your phone quite easily. I’ve chucked a few screenshots in here, but basically set your end destination and start the route. Then tap on the three dots in the top left and it brings up a menu with an option to add stops. Type in the first stop, and it will go to the end of the list. Click and hold on the three horizontal lines and you can move it up the list. Repeat with more stops as needed. Works well.1 point

Really interesting video. Personal experiences via "butt dyno" do back it up, too. Prior to trying Tesco's 99, Shell V Power definitely felt the best of the high octane options. While BP Ultimate has varied between meh, it's not great, to me being convinced one station I filled up at in Europe had the wrong octane fuel in their tank on that pump, now I'm thinking it was just Ultimate being Ultimate! Filling with the Tesco Momentum was interesting though. And the graphs would explain the experience - it's not that it felt "way more powerful", it wouldn't, you can see in their tests, there was only around 1hp difference at the maximum BHP point. BUT, look hoe much extra under the curve there was, lower down, with the Tesco Momentum. - That's what I was feeling as a much more eager engine, with more pull. Though, without active knock on my ecu, and the ability to pull timing, it is making me ponder the best approach for the Euro road trips. I do have the ability to switch maps on the fly, though. So I'm wondering if it's worth getting a "safe" map done, for days when Euro V Power is just not available. Note: Two points. 1. their tests above I suspect are all based on the older V Power, but I may be wrong. (Shell are rolling out a new formula at the moment in the UK). 2. I don't know which countries it's available in, but certainly I think all the Euro countries we crossed last year, Netherlands, Germany, Austria etc, had V Power Racing 100, a different formulation to "our" UK V Power with "minimum 100 RON", and oh my word, you felt the difference, just like you do with Tesco Momentum. Again, it'll be an area under the curve thing, not an out and out maximums thing.1 point

Welcome. I can’t answer about throttle lag but I do have a carb engine and have learnt how to start without choke. Turn ignition on. Slowly press accelerator to the floor 3 times. Turn key and activate starter with another press of the accelerator. Rev to keep running till steady. This also acts as a neighbour annoyance programme. Have fun.1 point
