  3. The other day I ordered some 40mm hose tails from a pipe fitting supply company for the 40mm hose I have. The hose has an exact internal diameter of 40mm. The hose tails arrived in quick time, and a test fit was like blocking the Dartford Tunnel with a Mars bar. The hose tails are embossed ‘40’ but at the widest point of the barbs, they are 37.4mm! I took a photo of my digital micrometer measuring the hose tail and sent it to them and asked for a refund. They came back and said a refund was no problem. But they also said… “These should still work, because a jubilee clip will help to create a seal” Z** D**** (Key Accounts Executive) I doubt the wee desk jockey has ever held a screwdriver in his life!

  5. Now that a date (March 25th) and venue (Bedingfield Arms at Oxborough) have been agreed I have started this new thread in the hope that some more members decide to attend the first meet. No need for those who have already posted their intentions to repost. You are on my list! However, all further messages concerning timing etc will be found here. Best regards, Barry

  6. Hi all, Just bought my first Westfield - my knowledge of these cars (and mechanics/cars in general) is very basic but I want to learn more and try to do most of the work on it myself! It was bought with track days in mind as have done a few of these in MR2s and MX5s. It's a 2L Zetec with twin webers, my first question is about the throttle response, I've noticed that if I 'floor it' at low RPM it sort of stumbles over itself and then kicks in, after which it revs fine and can go through the gears with no issues. Is this normal for cars with carbs? Any tips and info on driving cars with carbs would be greatly appreciated - especially the start up procedure where you need to let them fill up with fuel for a few seconds(?). Thanks!

  7. Had another fun trip out today with my little co-pilot. We headed down to Bridport to fuel up, then to West Bay for lunch. After that we went along the coast road to Abbotsbury with some excellent views across to Portland Bill. We then headed up to Dorchester, and back up the A356 to Crewkerne; really nice, fast A road driving, though a little chilly! Tea and hot chocolate to warm up, car washed, dried and tucked safely back in its bubble. Knackered but a fun day.

  9. I thought this video would be interesting for any of you that uses premium fuels available in petrol stations. Enjoy

  11. I’d expected a bigger difference on a Highly turbo charged car between 95 and 99.

  13. And Chloe Hill has just sorted out my renewal for the Mega S2000S; no increase over last years insurance premium, which I'm pleased about! Though the recovery and legal cover are up a bit. Thanks @A-Plan Insurance THATCHAM Fantastic service, as ever!

  14. I would personally do this, and I'll surely do it when I'll have mine tuned. Here where I live finding premium fuels is very difficult.

  15. Really interesting video. Personal experiences via "butt dyno" do back it up, too. Prior to trying Tesco's 99, Shell V Power definitely felt the best of the high octane options. While BP Ultimate has varied between meh, it's not great, to me being convinced one station I filled up at in Europe had the wrong octane fuel in their tank on that pump, now I'm thinking it was just Ultimate being Ultimate! Filling with the Tesco Momentum was interesting though. And the graphs would explain the experience - it's not that it felt "way more powerful", it wouldn't, you can see in their tests, there was only around 1hp difference at the maximum BHP point. BUT, look hoe much extra under the curve there was, lower down, with the Tesco Momentum. - That's what I was feeling as a much more eager engine, with more pull. Though, without active knock on my ecu, and the ability to pull timing, it is making me ponder the best approach for the Euro road trips. I do have the ability to switch maps on the fly, though. So I'm wondering if it's worth getting a "safe" map done, for days when Euro V Power is just not available. Note: Two points. 1. their tests above I suspect are all based on the older V Power, but I may be wrong. (Shell are rolling out a new formula at the moment in the UK). 2. I don't know which countries it's available in, but certainly I think all the Euro countries we crossed last year, Netherlands, Germany, Austria etc, had V Power Racing 100, a different formulation to "our" UK V Power with "minimum 100 RON", and oh my word, you felt the difference, just like you do with Tesco Momentum. Again, it'll be an area under the curve thing, not an out and out maximums thing.

  16. My Turn! Just got insurance for the Westy, Camper and MX5 all sorted with the help of Callum King (no relation!) Excellent service and beat the competition's renewal quote. Callum went the extra mile too - rather than just settling for the price we had agreed, he came back with a reduced figure after discovering another saving. Very happy!
