Excuse the slight play on words, but I’ve decided enough is enough. Despite some kind words from the Derbyshire crew to the contrary, I am living up to my nickname too much, even more so after a gluttony sprint over Christmas. At one point, whilst loading my plate up again on Christmas Day, my little eight year old muttered the immortal words ‘Daddy, if you carry on like that you will end up eating the hot plate as well!’ 🤣 Weight peaked at a horrifying level, well it began with a ‘2’ in stone if that gives an idea. Prior to the pandemic, I reached a similar point and embarked on a two year fitness campaign which got me down to around 14st, where I should be. Unfortunately lockdown was my undoing, particularly spending months ‘working from the kitchen’, about three feet from the fridge 😬 My biggest weakness is chocolate, and all things sweet (don’t mention cake please!), but so far I have managed to get my cravings under control and have been chocolate free for four days. Hopefully that’s all I need to get on the right track. My plan is to do what I did before, start walking everyday and build it up to a decent level. I was walking over 50km a week I guess, and there are some nice walks from where we are now in Crewkerne, so no excuses! Non Westfield related benefits: Health; avoiding diabetes! Energy levels; keeping up with said eight year old Happiness; I’m much less grumpy when exercising Sleep; Mrs Stu does not enjoy the snoring which comes along with the weight! More important (🤪) Westfield related benefits Should fit in my narrow bodied SEi more easily Might even be able to refit the seat Approx 40kg weight loss should improve acceleration without spending any cash on tuning! So, if anyone is in a similar boat, please feel free to post up here and we can give moral support to each other. Otherwise any encouragement along the lines of ‘You can do it chubby’ will be appreciated. Pictures of cake should be avoided, but if you must, you must, it will build up my resistance to temptation! 🤣. Coffee and Walnut pictures for me please 🤪 I’m back under the big 2 0 already, so next stop is something with an 18 at the beginning, target 14 by the end of the year ish 💪5 points

I once attained the giddy heights of 1lb short of 19 stone. I embarked on a change of lifestyle and managed to get down to just over 13st. Still overweight, but acceptable. Inevitably though, that has crept (and occasionally galloped) back up over the years. Currently 2 stone over where I want to be and 3 over where I'd like to be. I did manage to drop a stone last year just before going on holiday and thanks to catching Covid while away, I didn't put on much weight while away as I normally do, but as always, the Xmas gluttony has taken its usual toll. I'll get back on the horse and beat it back down again. As long as I get a grip the Xmas excess usually comes off pretty quickly. Sadly, it's been a life-long battle for me. The main thing is to accept it is really, really simple - eat less, do more. Never mistake simple for easy though. One thing I do is 2 days a week of very reduced intake, the 5-2 thing. That apparently has additional health benefits as well as the simple reduction in calories. Trick is not to binge afterward! The other is regular exercise. We both do a cardio routine at home 3 or 4 times a week and I do a bunch of callisthenics as well, and we walk regularly too.3 points

If it helps for reference, my first Westfield was purchased as a kit in 1988 - it was an SEi - wide body. On completing the build in 1990 it was registered as a new car on an H plate. The car isn't for sale (sold it years ago) ........... Just to advise that SEi wide body cars were available from 1988. Mine was one of the earliest to be supplied and it was the very first sold in modular format by Westfield Good Luck in your search 👍3 points

Ah yes it is possible that it was one of those that were given the donor age by the DVLA at one point. So likely to be legitimately registered if the V5 said “ Westfield“ rather than Ford.2 points

Westfield Seiw Correctly registered on V5 as above on 1/12/94 I'm the second owner, bought the car in 2006, the car was the best built I could find when searching, build standard was second to none. Sadly I've lost the build folder so can't verify anything about the engine but know its a coscast head and arp bolts on crankshaft, im sure the crankshaft, pistons and cams are upgraded too, shift light comes on at 5500rpm (dont see it too often 🙈) and hard lines at 7500rpm. We know these engines are bomb proof anyway. 2.0 litre red top vauxhall calibra engine running twin 45s, producing approx 200bhp. Mated to a 5 speed type 9 gearbox, LSD differential Wide track suspension Wildwood 4 pot brakes and grooved discs Gaz adjustable coil overs LED head lights V8 nose cone Carbon cycle wings Rear diffuser Lockable boot box Carbon cockpit Detachable steering wheel RAC roll bar Digital dash Savage switches Westfield seats with 4 point harnesses Fire extinguisher Wind deflectors Doors and hood Indoor car cover with Westfield logo I changed the analogue speedo in 2015 which showed 20148 miles. The digital dash now shows 4186 miles. Located in Glasgow and on SORN Reason for sale is I've another 'toy' which I've decided to keep so the other 'toy' has to go I'm sure I'll have missed some details out so please ask £12500 ovno1 point

My name is Jeff and I am Fat. Mine has been a life long struggle I was first put on a diet when at 14 years old I was 14 stone. In my defence I was a good rugby player at the time, but still fat. Over the years I tried every diet going and some worked a bit but never lasted. I have two wardrobes, to my wife's one with clothes that are all sizes. I did have a thyroid problem, no honest, which I now take tablets for but that is really a side issue. I worked away from home a lot so the Premier inn breakfast is more calories in a meal than you need for the day. This was inevitably followed by feasting from the garage buffet and I too have a sweet tooth. At my heaviest I was 25 stone, or 159 kilo for those youngsters among us. When lockdown came I worked from home and as my wife was also home and doing all the shopping and cooking, I got down to just under 16 stone, 100kg. As soon as I was back working away it crept back up to where it is today at 19 stone, or 122 kilo. I now have a real motivation to sort this out once and for all. I had blood tests for my Thyroid and they found I was pre diabetic which is not nice to be told but realistically not surprising. I also have some joint issues which are weight related as it was pointed out to me I basically carrying an average weight 12 year old boy around all day, so again not surprising. I have now retired and the warden, sorry wife, is now back in charge and will help. I was also referred to an NHS programme to help, first one is Saturday, so not sure what to expect really at this stage. In my previous attempts what helped was setting realistic goals, getting weighed just once a week and making time to walk and exercise, which is harder the bigger you are. The bigger issue is keeping it off There are lots of us out there and I make no excuses I am ultimately to blame but it has taken years to get here 65 of them, so it is not going to be a quick fix however I am determined. Good luck to all who are trying1 point

Good evening, all! It is really refreshing to read such honest and to the point comments. I'll be equally honest: I am lucky and not personally affected by that dilemma and I understand and believe that there are a variety of natural body shapes out there. Not all of them are similar to a Greek god. Trying to go against your natural shape/build is a hugely difficult uphill battle. However, clearly there is a difference between a naturally broader body shape and obesity. So, what helps with my "luck" is that I do and enjoy exercise and even eating quite healthy. What I would like to add in way of encouragement is: Once you have weaned yourself off the excessive amount of sugar that most people usually eat, your sensation of taste changes. Most, if not all, commercially available "treats" taste so, so sweet to me now that I genuinely do not like the taste any more. The very same taste that makes most people want to have even more actually is repelling to me. Just too much! So, in a (very) long winded way. Keep up the good work - it will become natural and thereby sustainable to you.1 point

Well done, you can do it. I'm carrying 2 stone more than I should and trying to shift at least half of it 🙂1 point

Well done @fatblokestu much cheaper to lighten you than lighten the car!1 point

I’d agree with this. I did reply to the same post on Facebook but for whatever reason my message was flagged for review by admin and as yet not published. The advert on marketplace clearly shows the chassis plate which indicates it to be a 1991 but it was quite common back then that admin errors occurred at the dvla and cars were given the first registration date for the donor. I don’t see this as anything to worry about. My only minor concern is that the chassis plate that is fitted is non-original (the plate fitted is for a latter car) so I would want to satisfy myself that the chassis number stamped into the chassis tube on the front crossmember below the radiator is the same as that shown on the chassis plate and documentation.1 point

Greece has similar restrictions to most of Europe. He's after a 30yrs old car min. I've been supporting @nikos via FB and suggested he joined our great club to get better quality advise etc. The car was MOT'd in the UK for some time with no issues- https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?registration=ayc101x&fbclid=IwAR17DReUNGXklVyIgm-L9GJ05JVSCwrdYuanlQaErpntSYo7V_piOg5Pmt0 Does this 30 yrs old min age, limit him to narrow bodied cars only? When where the first SIEW's made? Welcome @nikos1 point

The X3 is a ditchfinder. I don't think the tyres will make much odds Sorry, couldn't resist...1 point

swapped to Hankook Ventus (can't remember which model) on my wife's mini and there were no issues what so ever (never came close to finding a ditch). Son also had them on his MX5 said that they had a good following in the MX5 community, he did the odd track day with them and had no issues. The mini was running run flats before and was much better afterwards. I was a little unsure at the time about the swap from run flats to non run flats. I took the following into consideration, run flats were an option on the car so there were not standard, I was running a BMW that did not have run flats fitted, again run flats were an option for that car and the range as a whole. So I decided swapping from run flats would not be an issue as identical cars may or may not be fitted with them anyway.1 point

I cannot believe that changing from run-flat to non-run-flat tyres could make a difference to insurance. What is the difference if on my car (not run-flat tyres) I change from one make of tyre to another of the same size? That isn't what is intended by the need to notify modifications to an insurer. In fact, if I change my car for a second-hand one how might i know what tyre was originally fitted to it?1 point

From what you are saying you have a BMW X3? If so, word of advice from experience, as I had one a while ago 58 plate. I had it from almost new, great car, loved it. But I did have huge problems with it after moving from BMW star rated tyres (Dunlops at the time) to a set of non star rated tyres (they were actually Michelin Pilots). I kept getting hesitation and rumbling noises coming from the transmission tunnel. It went back to the dealership on a few occasions to try to isolate what the problem was, this went on for a couple of years and had various items checked, transfer box oil replaced etc. Made no difference. I then replaced the tyres for a set of Bridgestone's, this actually made the problem much worse. By this time I'd had enough, as I was reading stories about replacement of the transfer box, drive shafts etc etc... Took it back to my local dealership for what was going to be the last time and low and behold. The master tech. who looked it, confirmed to me it was the tyres. They proved it by swapping out a set of wheels from another BMW X3 without the issue I had and the problem went away. It turned out that its a common problem with x-drive's in that the rolling circumference of some tyres is out of tolerance for the x-drive 4x4 transfer box and electronics and it starts to try to compensate for this, hence the hesitation and rumbling noises. Which is why BMW recommend star rated tyres.... I put on a set of Dunlop's (BMW star rated) and the car drove like new. On a separate note ref run-flats - My last car, BMW 4series (non x-drive) had run-flat Bridgestone's on from new. It was the worse handling BMW I've ever had, it would pull from side to side on uneven roads/road surfaces etc. I swapped these tyres out just prior to trading it in for non-run-flats and it transformed the car. I understand Run-flats have stiffer side walls for obvious reasons, so don't flex as much to compensate for our poor roads. Hence the handling issues. As far as insurance issues, I cant see why any insurance company would refuse to pay out if it didn't have run-flats on, I think a decision to not pay out would be very challengeable. Unless obviously if they were a non-standard tyre size, ie larger or smaller than that fitted at factory. Hopes this helps 🙂1 point

Fowey, Lostwithiel, Charlestown or Pentewn sands (very nice beach here as well) all within half an hour of Eden if you can find some where around there as good bases1 point

Not on such a large scale as Eden, but The LostGardens of Heligan (~ SW of St Austell) are worth a visit if you are in the area.1 point

We visited Eden whilst staying in Polperro just over a year ago - its a fascinating and interesting place - I would advise to take a picnic - the cafes/restos there are absolutely minging - dirty grubby and sticky (and over-priced) otherwise its really good. We had'nt been to that area in over 40 years there are still some glorious places, the one that had changed to most for me was Looe - Always loved it when a child ...... wow has it changed - it was heaving full of tattoo'ed chavs, unruly kids and place was full of chip shops and tacky plastic souvenir places 😉 #TripAdvisor1 point

We've done EP twice, once camping other based in Charlestown on South Coast near St Austell (good brewery tour) Can't remember the cottage near harbour but will try and find it as would recommend it. They do live concerts at EP https://www.edensessions.com/ , it's an excellent venue for them, so well worth planning trip around one of these.1 point
