Fine weather in Surrey today, so I got out for a blast to Newlands Corner, followed by a thorough wash & shine. Main jobs for 2023, apart from keeping it between the hedges, include updating the headlights to LED (smaller diameter with black surrounds - recommendations welcome!), and replacing the seats with lighter carbon / composite.6 points

A cold but dry start to the day this morning. First stop was Greg's house where he was trying in vain to breath life into his stunning n/a Cosworth powered Fury (flat battery). He decided to come in the tin top so Colin (in his tin top) and I headed to Donington. We had an amazing turnout, with Glynn (MX5 based SDV), Ash (crossflow narrow body) and Karl (Zetec engined FW) already there. It was Karl's first meet and our first sight of the car on its lovely split rims 😍 After a brief chat and a kick of the tyres we were joined by James (in his new XE powered track focused FW), Tony (in his Zetec SEIW) and Ollie in his Triumph Herald. Greg landed soon after, followed by Ben in his new VW Caddy (complete with diamond stitched leather seats) and Gary in his MR2 (of Curborough autosolo fame!). We had a good look round James's new motor, he's recently traded up to this more track focused car with full cage and a lovely black and gold XE under the bonnet. Ollie had spent lockdown restoring the beautiful little Herald (and has done an amazing job!) and is currently working on getting his R1 engined Stuart Talyor/Sylva Phoenix through IVA... some mad skills for a 22 year old! Glynn trying the Herald on for size! After breakfast for 10 people (we almost outnumbered the bikers 😂) and a good catch up on all things cars we headed to the car park for more tyre kicking. There was loads of laughter watching Glynn try and wedge himself into Ash's narrow bodied car.... let just say, it wasn't a successful mission 😂 Great to see you today guys, hope you all got home safe 👍3 points

Through my 15 or so years being in and around the WSCC Speed Series, I have never known much of what happened 'before my time'. Because of this thought, I decided to compile a list of all the WSCC Speed Series Champions from 1998 to today. I have included information and photos of the winning car in the season that it won. All info is from the Westfield World Magazines which are available to download and view, or from general paddock talk over the last decade. 1998 - Nick Lear Unfortunately, I was unable to find much information on Nick Lear's 1998 season, beyond him competing in the then Class A with a Crossflow powered car. 1999 - David Jones Similarly to Nick Lear, there is only limited information that I was able to find. David Jones competed in Class A with a Crossflow powered car. 2000 - Lindsay Pointon Competing in Class B in his Vauxhall C20XE (Redtop) powered car, Lindsay was the first of many C20XE powered champions. 2001 - Garry Bunn The well known now ex-Derby Notts AO, Garry piloted his Crossflow powered car to the championship in class A. Unfortunately I was unable to find a photo of this car, but he went on to compete in an amazing Cosworth powered car. 2002 - Adrian Clinton-Watkins Even when he was still young, Adrian Clinton-Watkins; the man behind GGR Communications and forum admin, was blisteringly quick in a Westfield. For his first championship, he competed in a Class B with a C20XE powered Car. 2003 - Tom Green The man responsible for the WSCC Speed Series, without which many friendships would not have been formed. Powering along in the famous Westfield 'Flymo' GT with a John Eales Rover V8, Tom was able to win the championship in Class H. 2004 - Tim Pennington Tim brought the championship back down to earth by winning overall in his Crossflow powered car that was still very modest (especially compared to the Flymo) in Class A. 2005 - Guy Hussey Probably one of the most interesting seasons in Speed Series history. Guy drove his Dad's Vauxhall X16XE powered Raw Striker to the overall championship in Class A, before the guest classes were introduced to the Speed Series. 2006 - Mark Smith The first SBD car to win the Speed Series. An extremely well tuned C20XE by SBD was the powerplant that helped Mark Smith win in Class H. 2007 - Andy Rushworth The first bike powered car to win the championship. A CBR1100xx Blackbird engine in a road-going Westfield. This chassis has gone on to win 4 Speed Series Championships (as of 2022), the most of any single chassis so far. 2008 - Andy Rushworth The first person to win the championship twice, and back to back non the less. 2009 - Richard Kerr This northern speedster drove his C20XE powered Westfield to the overall Championship in Class D. 2010 - Phil Newall 2010 saw the first of the Fireblade powered Westfields come to win. Phil Newall's example being one of the lightest cars ever built, with a modern 1-litre bike engine in the then Class G. 2011 - Stuart Hill The first Toyota powered Westfields to win the championship the 4AGE a great engine to get him the win in Class C. 2012 - Adrian Clinton-Watkins Now with a Duratec in his Westfield, Adrian came with a mission, and won the overall championship in Class F. 2013 - Barry Slingsby A return for the C20XE powered overall champions in Class D, and a second of the 'Team GGR' coloured cars to win overall. 2014 - Adrian Clinton-Watkins Adrian now sets the record for the most wins by a single person, with 3. This season, Adrian came to the championship with a very special engine, a de-stroked 1800cc Duratec which would place him in Class E. Interestingly, after the car had a large off at Loton Park, the engine and gearbox were transferred to Barry Slingsby's chassis to finish off the season at Ty Croes, Anglesey. 2015 - John Hoyle The first win for John Hoyle, an incredibly quick Yorkshireman with a C20XE powered car in Class D. 2016 - John Loudon The throaty roar of the 1700cc Ford Puma powered Westfield of John Loudon won the championship in Class E. 2017 - John Hoyle John Hoyle took back his title from John Loudon, this time, competing in Class F. 2018 - Howard Gaskin Another Championship for the trusty old C20XE, this time back in Class D. Going into the final day of the final event of the season, 3 people were still within a chance of winning. Howard Gaskin, Terry Everall and John Loudon. In the end, a points difference the equivalent of 0.07 seconds split Howard and John. 2019 - John Hoyle John Hoyle comes back swinging in Class F, as he equals Adrian Clinton-Watkins record of 3 championships won. 2020 - None Due to COVID-19, the 2020 season was cancelled. 2021 - Terry Everall After competing for approximately 20 years, Terry had finally won the Speed Series. A comeback for the Honda Fireblade CBR1000rr which had always been a very competitive engine since it's first appearance in a Westfield. Also a third championship for the chassis, as Andy Rushworth had won his championships in this chassis back in 2007/8 2022 - Terry Everall Just like busses, ey. With the 2022 championship won, the chassis has the unique distinction of being the only chassis to win 4 championships, with 2 back to back victories, over a decade apart. 2023 - Adam Phelps The 2023 season once again came down to the last event weekend to be decided, this time Adam Phelps just edged out Adrian Clinton-Watkins by less than 1 point. The Phelps family car powered by a 1440cc Suzuki Hayabusa, piloted by Adam, his sister Charlotte, and father John. Adam consistently put on great displays of his talent, often beating specialist single seat race cars. A worthy champion! And with that, the list is complete as of now. If there is any more information that people want to add or correct, let me know, and if there are any period images of the cars that don't have ones, please send me them via a message so that I can add them.2 points

and although I suspect its somewhat of a "Triggers Broom" scenario that Terrys championship wins came about from the double championship winning car purchase from Andy Rushworths car 👍 that car has some pedigree Nick Lear still has his car from year 1 - after winning the championship he went onto to race in the Locost Championship and 2023 will see him out in the MR2 race championship alongside Richard Brown also ex SS driver. Not sure what became of David Jones ? Lindsay Pointon retired from motorsport and now runs a successful IT business Tom Green also retired and currently lives in France Tom Green alongside myself and Ron Siddle got the championship off the ground - WSCC Motorsport Ltd was later founded a couple of years later by Tom, myself, Steve Robinson and Mike Smith when the championship became really popular in order to organise it all more professionally, where we often had over 100 registered drivers. The other championship winners are still around the Westfield scene, some in a more sedate manner and others still going strong and even faster. As an aside if you're ever around a paddock you will still often see George Newrick ... one of the first drivers to enter all those years ago and still competes at a local level in the same blue Westfield, as all those years ago 👍2 points

Great to see everyone today, thanks @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative as always for organising it with Michael and the Burton Car Club 👍 Colin, James and I started at about 9am. Martin (@neptune) had messaged to say he was in the tin top (in fact it was a van that's now called "Dexters van" due to the suspicious plastic sheets inside it 😂). Note the blue sky! Colin's Pinto engined car was sounding a little sick, a quick look over and it seemed to be a loose water pump pulley but when we headed off it became apparent that it was a tappet problem so he had to head home... being a man of action, he had it stripped and parts on order before lunch! Excellent work! 👏 James (in the Sonic7) and I headed for the B roads and found them almost deserted, meaning we had a nice easy run to Carsington, puddle dodging all the way 😂 After breakfast (who doesnt need more food at this time of year!?) a few of us headed home to fairer weather leaving the main convoy to head north into a monsoon! A great way to start 2023! Happy New Year!2 points

Did I say something about 'making calendar pictures' on my last event? well we made some today didn't we @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman @Glynn Walters😂 We met the Burton Car Club at Carsington Water and made a lovely display of interesting cars in the car park This was us @Trevor Little (Trevturtle) joined us at last with tales of the turbo'd MX5 at Donington on a cold December track day which delighted us, James in the Sonic had been there only the day after too on an equally cold day, talk of minus 2 in the morning! We soon relieved the snack bar of it's sausage cobs and hot coffee It's not like it was cold, we had some proper Cheshire flesh on display with us didn't we Dave, not like the nancies in Staffordshire who wear jeans in the winter @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO We returned to our cars after we suitably dropped everyone's body temperature and I was approached by a man called Rod. He was a press photographer and wanted some photo's of our cars in motion, I told him my route and he said he would see us near the Miner's Standard pub, I passed him a business card and waved him off. I gathered Dave, Glynn and James in the MEV Sonic for the onward journey to Hathersage. Glynn asked if we were 'roofing up' as it was spitting with rain, I replied that we will be moving so we will be fine🤣. Around 10 minutes later the rain was biblical and we were on a twisty, narrow country road with no chance of pulling up. At the end of the road I pulled over to the left on a straight bit and we 'roofed up', we were soaked, inside the windscreen, seats, coats, hats, everywhere and I couldn't get my wet hands into my gloves. James had no roof and went home, Dave and Glynn had the same opinion as me, we were wet now so we may as well carry on. I am glad we did because by Bakewell the rain had stopped but it had left it's mark on the roads as you can see by Rod's photo's. They had made the Midland's News by the time we got home, thanks @HB46443 for tagging us on facebook, I hope Rod get's a good payday from them. Anyway, we arrived at Bird Cafe in a damp state. Bird Cafe, Hathersage car park Yay, it was lunchtime, so the feasting began, followed by cake time. Treacle tart and cream for me Have you noticed that the sun is out now we are sat inside a warm cafe😃 I will leave you with the rest of Rod's photo's for you to laugh at. That cyclist must have balls of steel to do what he did, Dave suggested that they may be rusty by now so I hope they are stainless steel ones. Don't forget to pay your parking fee for Carsington and I hope to see you next Sunday for a less eventful meet up, WOW, it's been a very memorable day today and I certainly feel alive, what a start to the year🤪2 points

Hi, A few of us have booked onto the track evening at Donington (National Circuit) on the 18th July 2023 (normally a 4pm sign on then slow sighter laps, 5pm track opens, 8pm track closes). Three of us did the same thing this year, nabbed ourselves a garage (can't be booked) and had a great laugh for a few hours. If you fancy joining us remember you can do it through the Javelin Trackdays site and take advantage of the WSCC members discount and save a few quid 👍 None of us are hard-core track fiends, we just go at our own pace and have a chuckle. Spectators are free and have access to the garages and pit wall if you just fancy coming along to watch. Obviously not an official WSCC event so please make sure you sort your own insurance etc. I'll post again nearer the time 👍1 point

Hello all & a quick message to show face. James May here from sunny Shropshire. Role on the top gear jokes! So my first steps to securing my dream toy! Boy am I excited for 2023!!! And this will likely be in the next few months, once I have sorted some other bits out. I will be purchasing Via Toy box cars. Shout out to Andrew for pointing me in this direction to join the club, and for some guidance on what I am looking for. I love Westfields and a huge petrol head. Due to a few things happening in real life, my view is now to tick off the bucket list sooner, life is too short!!! I look forward to meeting you guys once I am on the road or before at a local gathering or show. Kindest regards.1 point

I done my ceiling in upvc tongue and groove, in fact I done the walls also. I was going to plaster and skim as I can skim it but I was drawn to the upvc for the reason that it can be wiped clean and easy to work with especially on your own! As previously mentioned I insulated between the joists and then fitted 4x twin 5ft led strip lights and its always nice and bright. My walls are also insulated and in the summer the temp never goes about 20 degrees and in the winter I've never seen it drop below 8 degrees. I'm not sure what the cladding costs now but no doubt alot more nowadays 🤨 You also have added benefit of upvc angled strips to tidy up edging/corners. My garage is approx 19x17ft. Not the best pic but you can get an idea of how it looks:1 point
