  1. Did I say something about 'making calendar pictures' on my last event? well we made some today didn't we @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman @Glynn Walters😂 We met the Burton Car Club at Carsington Water and made a lovely display of interesting cars in the car park This was us @Trevor Little (Trevturtle) joined us at last with tales of the turbo'd MX5 at Donington on a cold December track day which delighted us, James in the Sonic had been there only the day after too on an equally cold day, talk of minus 2 in the morning! We soon relieved the snack bar of it's sausage cobs and hot coffee It's not like it was cold, we had some proper Cheshire flesh on display with us didn't we Dave, not like the nancies in Staffordshire who wear jeans in the winter @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO We returned to our cars after we suitably dropped everyone's body temperature and I was approached by a man called Rod. He was a press photographer and wanted some photo's of our cars in motion, I told him my route and he said he would see us near the Miner's Standard pub, I passed him a business card and waved him off. I gathered Dave, Glynn and James in the MEV Sonic for the onward journey to Hathersage. Glynn asked if we were 'roofing up' as it was spitting with rain, I replied that we will be moving so we will be fine🤣. Around 10 minutes later the rain was biblical and we were on a twisty, narrow country road with no chance of pulling up. At the end of the road I pulled over to the left on a straight bit and we 'roofed up', we were soaked, inside the windscreen, seats, coats, hats, everywhere and I couldn't get my wet hands into my gloves. James had no roof and went home, Dave and Glynn had the same opinion as me, we were wet now so we may as well carry on. I am glad we did because by Bakewell the rain had stopped but it had left it's mark on the roads as you can see by Rod's photo's. They had made the Midland's News by the time we got home, thanks @HB46443 for tagging us on facebook, I hope Rod get's a good payday from them. Anyway, we arrived at Bird Cafe in a damp state. Bird Cafe, Hathersage car park Yay, it was lunchtime, so the feasting began, followed by cake time. Treacle tart and cream for me Have you noticed that the sun is out now we are sat inside a warm cafe😃 I will leave you with the rest of Rod's photo's for you to laugh at. That cyclist must have balls of steel to do what he did, Dave suggested that they may be rusty by now so I hope they are stainless steel ones. Don't forget to pay your parking fee for Carsington and I hope to see you next Sunday for a less eventful meet up, WOW, it's been a very memorable day today and I certainly feel alive, what a start to the year🤪

  4. Great to see everyone today, thanks @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative as always for organising it with Michael and the Burton Car Club 👍 Colin, James and I started at about 9am. Martin (@neptune) had messaged to say he was in the tin top (in fact it was a van that's now called "Dexters van" due to the suspicious plastic sheets inside it 😂). Note the blue sky! Colin's Pinto engined car was sounding a little sick, a quick look over and it seemed to be a loose water pump pulley but when we headed off it became apparent that it was a tappet problem so he had to head home... being a man of action, he had it stripped and parts on order before lunch! Excellent work! 👏 James (in the Sonic7) and I headed for the B roads and found them almost deserted, meaning we had a nice easy run to Carsington, puddle dodging all the way 😂 After breakfast (who doesnt need more food at this time of year!?) a few of us headed home to fairer weather leaving the main convoy to head north into a monsoon! A great way to start 2023! Happy New Year!

  5. Some high performance cars only make rated power on high octane, but that's quite unusual - and they should still be perfectly safe to use on standard 95RON with active knock control systems. 20+ years ago supermarket fuels didn't all have detergent packs and this gave problems like intake valve carbon deposits and rough running. Nowadays I believe that pretty much all UK fuel is good quality - I use PetrolPrices app and shop wherever is cheapest... Regarding Tesco Momentum 99, most Ford ST products have been developed using it because that's the closest fuel station to Dunton in Essex 🙂

  9. You hope in vain Luke! Not sure how those heading off home went on, but Julie, Glynn and I got caught full on in that. Had to stop and roof up when we realised it was more than just a quick burst.

  10. So much for light cloud and 9% of 'light' showers! I was clay shooting at Middleton Top (about a mile from the meet) and the rain was biblical. I hope nobody was caught out in it with the roof down?!
