  3. Thanks guys, really appreciate your comments and input! He still passed me, even not issuing any advisories! 🤔 So, ultimately I'm not complaining (not for another year anyway 😄), but it's always a worry year on year!

  4. Most trackday organisers have tuition if you ask them, book before or on the day. Even if they don't, you'd soon get used to track driving, start of slow and increase your speed during the day. I would assume skid pan experience would give tuition as part of the day. MSE trackdays are down your way so checkout their website for what they do.

  5. It’s one thing for a car to fail for a genuine reason, but quite another for it to fail because the tester isn’t competent! The Westy failed an MOT some years back, I hadn’t spotted a wishbone bush had perished and had play. A fair cop, and an easy fix, and I was happy the guy spotted it.

  7. I'd just do a trackday with tuition tbh, even going as far as to hire a dedicated instructor for the day. Skidpans are great fun, but the translation into how to manage grip when the rear steps out at 100mpg round Druids is pretty limited. Somewhere like Blyton or Bedford would allow you to feel the car and get used to the limits of grip in a reasonably safe environment.

  9. Thankfully, my Q plate cognisant MOT tester is still going. He had a bit of a hiatus earlier in the year and I thought I might have to be looking elsewhere, but then I remembered a couple of occasions when other guys there had tested our car without issues. Can’t imagine a tester being in a good mood if he was ‘educated’ about his mistake!

  10. precisely this! and a bit of “I’ve been doing mot’s for twenty years, so don’t tell me how I should be doing my job“ It’s always best to politely ask prior to booking a test if they know about the q plate rules and kit cars in particular.

  12. There was a guy who’d done a bit of historic touring cars who’d flown over from Australia! He was 77! You’re only a couple of years older so you’ll prob be fine
