  1. Day 7 Today we travelled about 290 miles through Italy’s Dolomites and later on into Austria. The Dolomites and numerous mountain passes were something else! Perfectly smooth fast twisty with lovely switch backs. Well worth an early start before the traffic builds. Easily the best roads I have ever driven on we’re today in the Dolomites. The Westfield is so perfectly suited to them! I chased an Audi R8 all the way up one of the passes. I think it surprised us both, hair pin after hair pin he wasn’t getting away! We had a few nice stop offs for coffee and ice cream etc and another pic nic in a random picturesque spot somewhere in Italy! Once we crossed the border into Austria we did the Timmelsjoch high alpine pass (toll one) and it was worth every one of those 17 euros. Fast flowing and almost empty provided some entertainment! We had no destination planned today so when we reached Solden, Austria we went to the first camp site we found and it was spot on. Secure underground parking for the cars and a nice little area to pitch out tents. Lovely staff as everyone seems to be across Europe anyway! Well tomorrow is day 8 and we start to change direction and head towards home via Germany, France etc… The train is booked for day 9 so we have two days to cover 800 off miles which should be comfortable sticking again to D roads and avoiding motorways. I think tonight will be the last camping night if we can find a cheap Motel on route tomorrow. Here’s a few pics from today….

  2. End of day 6 Today we set off early again. In and out of Italy and Switzerland all day. It was great to have the two Richards back with us. We did the Umbriel pass which was quite busy going up and then stopped at the top of Stelvio to take it all in. Then went down Stelvio. It was pretty clear going down and I enjoyed all 48 hair pins. We also covered loads of other mountain passes. The weather was sooo hot again. We had a few coffee stops and lunch down by a river. I used my brolley for shade not rain! Overall we covered about 300 miles today and ended up at our destination which was the Dolomites. We are staying at a lovely campsite and just been out for beers and dinner. There is another early start planned for tomorrow. 4.45am alarm call to ensure clear roads all around the Dolomites. (Which Iam told are going to be the best mountain passes of the tour, so I can’t wait!)

  3. So then.....due to a certain person and another kind donation we have now achieved the target! Having never done any fundraising like this before as I'm normally donating to others I'm now thinking increase the target again? As a Works Team effort we're still waiting for a response from the company as to whether they will match the raised funds. Hope no one feels I'm badgering you all? I'm doing the same via Facebook and as I said I've never done this before so I intend on doing the best I can! Thanks again everyone.

  5. A good run out to the Swettenham Classics meet tonight, greeted by the sight of a nice “old” Jag, when we arrived! It quietened off later, so the owner could move it round to a more photogenic spot!

  6. End of day 5 yesterday we did a fantastic 300 miles from Switzerland through to Italy. Some fantastic passes. The temperature was 39 down in the valleys but comfortable at altitude. We sheltered down by the river under a tree for a spot of lunch and then arrived at Lake Como for the evening. (Treating ourselves to a proper bed for the night and more beer and pizza!)it was great to see the two Richards had fixed the alternator issue and managed to hot foot it from Mount Blonc over to us whilst still taking in some of the fantastic passes we did yesterday and today. They looked knackered when they arrived! Few pics of yesterday below.

  7. End of day 4 What an amazing day of driving.very early start, on the road by 6am. Italy and into Switzerland and the roads were quiet at that time in the morning so we’ll worth getting up for. 270 miles of mostly mountain passes. Including - Furka, Grimsel, Sustan, Nufenen, St. Bernard and about a dozen other passes too. The Furka being my favourite of the day. The weathers still hot 🥵 but fantastic and not complaining! We have pitched up at a lovely little campsite in Anderman. Great facilities for cars and camping. hopefully the car with the charging issues will catch up with us tomorrow when the garages open (typical Sunday today). Just the five of us today.

  8. OK people, it has done 1100 miles in the last 4 years, 7000 in my near 15-year ownership, it has to go. I can account for 10k of spend on it, 8k of that could be called ‘upgrade’, 2k in ‘just replacing old bits’. MOT’d in June. These are flattering pictures, I will supply more pictures to interested parties C20XE on 45mm Jenvey throttle bodies and an MBE 956 ECU*, producing 192 Bhp (NMS) QED 42h cams (Hydraulic, very mild lift from standard), Piper Vernier pulleys, QED con rod bolts. Dry Sump System with Braided hoses, SBD tank, Ali fittings. SBD HD clutch, bearing etc, (a few years ago but <5000mls) Light Flywheel. Quaife 3.82 LSD, Type 9 gearbox with original ratios I think, 1st is very short. SBD Designed BTB 4-2-1 exhaust (cost £1150 12 years ago) Front brakes are Wilwood Midilite Calipers with Mintex Pads Rear drum brakes are the 9” version (RS2000) Other upgraded bits: JK Seats & Pads Protech shocks specified by, and with full set up by, Procomp. Westfield Ali Uprights & Hubs. Front antiroll bar, Quick rack Coolex alloy radiator (70mm core) with Revotec pull fan on electronic fan controller. Fuel Swirl Pot system (squeezed in to retain the AA composites Boot Box) Carbon bits include the cycle wings, dash, aero screen. mirrors, tunnel covers and sill covers. The wheel arch protectors are 3m carbon effect and the boot box is fibreglass. The documentation of the set up at Procomp shows the car weighing 565 Kg, Comes with a box of hoarded detail of the life of the car, from the chassis order in ’91, the body order in ’93. *Will include the Racetech serial to USB adaptor for windows 10 Easimap connection It could take wider rear wheels than most SEiW cars I have seen (though most people wouldn’t) the rear arches appear to be wider than similar cars, the width having been added before coating. The internals of screen wash and wipers are still in the car and working. It comes with the screen fillet, pillars and wipers, the screen frame is untidy though, needs attention, and mirrors. I have the spare wheel carrier for it also. Price - Now reduced to £9,950.

  10. Just to throw into the mix 😃 I’ve just gone from zk bodywork with long wings and jap roll bar and lockable boot lid, to ZK bodywork , flared wings, lockable boot lid ( now modified) and half cage. the storm cap has gone from a good fit to no use now due to the extra height of the half cage ( so available ) the half hood, I have made strap extensions and is surprisingly a good fit over the bar, but due to the height does have a gap above the doors , not a problem with the wind deflectors on . Also as the storm cap no longer fits I fitted a wide body tonneau yes this does encroach onto the front edge of the boot lid, but I can live with that. there’s been a few advertised at reasonable cost lately if pics are required give me a shout and I can grab some tomorrow as just prepping for Belgium on Monday / Tuesday

  12. I certainly don't feel badgered in the slightest, and I'm sure others feel the same. I await hearing how you go on. I don't think you need to increase the target as such, just let it take care of itself. It won't stop people from giving just because you have reached any particular target, if people see a worthwhile cause and someone making an effort to help, then they will be delighted to see the target overtaken.

  13. I prefer the Ubrail to the Stelvio, as it's less busy and you get better advanced view up/down the hairpins. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's good at watering the Alpine forestry! P = Pee Stop, surely?

  14. Looks like an amazing trip. Very jealous. Someone should think of building some hotels out there, to negate the need for that camping lark.🤔

  17. I didn't make it easy for myself by fitting a Cat7 frame and screen all those years ago, so anything I want making it's a home made affair from that day. However now I have found the material and that hole punch life has been made somewhat easier.

  18. Widetrack isn’t standard fitment and generally is an upgrade to the narrower track standard wishbones. Siltech, rally design or westfield would be the usual widetrack choices. depending on what gen of widetrack you have fitted there’s a single lower wishbone on eBay right now.

  19. @charliemouse, I see you're in Wakefield, why not come along to the Red Kite on Sunday morning. We're meeting there at 9 for breakfast before going to the show in Walton.

  20. As said before, they are highly tailored to the car and hood/roll bar shape; they are sculpted to fit both the roof line and the rear arches, around the wing mirrors and windscreen, etc. Normally, to make a new version of these, they have to have your car to use as a template for a number of days, (it used to be a week). It's a big job. They won't do a half 'd version! As their name and reputation is all over it! To be fair, a regular ZK body version might just sit well enough on a narrow, for many to be OK with. But it just may not tighten down properly around the rear wings, and possibly screen. It would be one of those things some one would just have to try it and see.

  21. 🤣 🐴 I was in the Range Rover directly in front of you. Ironically I had my Westfield t-shirt on and was going to stop ... but got told off by my better half as she felt it might look a little odd especially in Cas!!!

  23. @Rednop1 has usually sets and spare wishbones for sale. Failing that, Siltech will be able to sort you out.

  24. I use an eBay quad bike cover. It Most are about £15. It’s just a water proof sheet with an elasticated skirt. It’s been several years since I bought it. IIRC it was a large but! I’ve slept since then. At £15 you can try a few sizes .

  27. Had a very similar experience with Soft Bits over last couple of weeks . Asked them to make me a storm cap and tonneau cover . They couldn’t make the storm cap for my SEIW because it had the square / goal post type roll bar ! As for the tonneau I sent numerous e mails photos and measurements over last two weeks only to be told today they can’t do it because I have a lockable boot lid ! Seems a bit odd as the first photo I sent clearly showed the boot lid. Anyway can anyone point me in the direction of a different company that could make me a tonneau?

  29. What a beautiful day for a run in the Peak District! With @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative away we had to make our own entertainment.... I'd just like to say, its so much easier when someone else is planning the day! 😂 I picked up new member Steve @SBozzy on the way (a very brave man being my passenger for the day!) before meeting Ash, Tony and Alex at the services. We were also pleased to see Ian arrive (a friend and potential new member who owns a bike engined MK Indy). We set off, up to Wirksworth before cutting cross country on remarkably quiet back roads to Monyash to meet @Lee Bennett and his mate who owns a glorious 200bhp Mk1 Cortina! After a spot of breakfast in the sunshine with liberal helpings of banter, we headed off following Lee hoping to find more quiet roads. After slight miss step when we got split up, we met again on the Via Gellia before a completely clear run down the B5056 (one of my favourite roads!) to the Bentley Brook Inn. Ian, Ash and Tony had a curfew so had to head home, while the rest of us landed in the beer garden for a well deserved cold drink 😎 A fun day out of B Road blasts, meeting new members, encouraging new membership, loads of chatting cars, a bit of banter and plenty of sunburn! 😎 Thanks for coming, and see you all next time 👍

  30. End of Day 3 great day today. 260 odd miles and some fantastic first passes down through Anneccy to Mont Blonc where we are tonight camping. few little issues today with one of the cars which is currently being resolved. the beer and pizza sat in front of the mountain made up for it! ☀️ early start tomorrow (all being well with the alternator/battery issue) **update** now down to 5 cars for tomorrow while the others try to get an alternator issue repaired on a Sunday somewhere but fingers crossed they will catch us up by Monday latest 🤞🏼🤞🏼

  32. Day 2 done. Perfect start to the day with breaky in a picturesque spot. The locals love the cars everywhere we go. It’s been hot, currently 33 degrees. 330 odd miles of fast D roads today. Great fun 😎 just arrived at the F1 hotel in Dole not far from the Swiss border for the night. Shower and off for food somewhere! few snaps of today

  33. End of day 1. Correction there are seven of us now. (Seven sevens..) What a great start. No delays at the tunnel. Weathers been hot! Few silly teething issues with a couple of the cars but noting that couldn’t be sorted quickly without causing any delays. (Leaky hose etc) 80 odd miles done this afternoon. Currently staying at the Ibis in a nice little town called Douai. Good parking available. Nice French beer. En suite room for a shower etc. We found a nice little restaurant for some grub. Looking forward to munching some miles on day 2. (350 ish miles tomorrow)
