End of Day 3 great day today. 260 odd miles and some fantastic first passes down through Anneccy to Mont Blonc where we are tonight camping. few little issues today with one of the cars which is currently being resolved. the beer and pizza sat in front of the mountain made up for it! ☀️ early start tomorrow (all being well with the alternator/battery issue) **update** now down to 5 cars for tomorrow while the others try to get an alternator issue repaired on a Sunday somewhere but fingers crossed they will catch us up by Monday latest 🤞🏼🤞🏼6 points

245 miles today we left at 8 this morning and just home at 5.30 Met up with Scott and his loon at corgarf then on to a coffee, bacon roll and raspberry tart at Glenshee , onto Pitlochry and out Tummel bridge to Rannoch station tearoom and met up with Graeme and Bruce . DISASTER the cook was ill and there wasn’t any cake 🥲 Anyway a wee blether and lunch then it was over to Trinafour and up over the moor, hopped onto the A9 to Dalwhinnie , then onto the cafe at Laggan Bridge for coffee and cake 😃 before heading back up speyside home.5 points

Hi all! Due to our illustrious leader @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative being on holiday (probably throwing herself in random lakes!) we are doing our own thing in the Peaks tomorrow. We are planning to meet at the Old Smithy Tearooms in Monyash (DE45 1JH) at 10am for a brew and a buttie. Route after breakfast is TBC 👍. Hopefully @Lee Bennettmay take up the role of squadron leader after breakfast 😂 The "southern" contingent will do a pre-meet at the normal A50/A38 services (DE65 6DX) at 845am for a 9am departure. The convoy will stop for fuel at Newhaven about 945am for those with thirstier cars. While the route won't be as meticulously planned as usual, the weather looks fab and I'm sure we'll have fun 👍4 points

How did you guess? I have chosen Semer Water for a swim, a natural glacial lake, doubt it will be very warm up there😱 Have a great day in this amazing weather x3 points

While Ian does his Blog bit, I was busy… I claim this mountain! The photo neither does justice to how close the edge was, (less than 2m), how windy it was, (very), and how much holding a dirty great big flag pulls you around at the edge of a chuffing great drop. (A long way down into Italy, just there!)3 points

Hi Stu, I've got the Walker St Clair storm cover. You can see on my car here on our 2021 'Not Die Alpen' trip to Yorkshire last year. As can be seen, it's not a perfect fit due to my added helmet box. I just use the front edge of the bonnet to hold the front down and a couple of bunjie cords as well. They don't sell them anymore, but you may be able to find one second hand. It helps keeps moisture out. I didn't use it this year on the Die Alpen 2022 trip, though. It was used indoor (Porsche Museum) in 2019, just to keep my luggage out of sight-3 points

For those visiting the area, there is an absolutely superb museum in Caens itself; the Caens Memorial Musem. https://normandy.memorial-caen.com It’s a fascinating place, you could easily spend a day in, with some good displays and artefacts. It also stands testament to the total horror of Total War. Told from a perspective we perhaps don’t hear enough from; it pulls no punches either. Reminding us of the brutal terrors that can happen when “good people do nothing”.2 points

It’s a fascinating reflection of the differences and attitudes between countries, visiting Reims old GP track. This is the opposite side of the main race control and admin buildings, in front of which the classic cars parked up shots are taken. With the exception of the room dedicated to Les Pilotes, (the drivers gone by), it’s all open, with only the odd dangerously weakened stair case closed off by a simple barrier. but there’s a main stair case, with obviously maintained guard rails, you can go up to the viewing rooms, and even the very top gallery. Yet it’s all, while decaying slowly, fairly clean and tidy, with very, very little graffiti or vandalism obvious. It’s patently looked after and sympathetically maintained - there seemed signs on the grand stand over the road, particularly, of where the odd sponsors sign might have been very carefully restored, while still keeping it looking as weathered and aged as the rest. And here we can see just how far @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Goes to get the awesome photos he’s taken for the trip!2 points

A great day for fun. As always well organised. Great people on and off the track. Hopefully not to much premature ware ‘n’ tare or breakages for you guys. My 888’s are pretty much slicks now and at least £100 of track fuel burnt. but other than that I think all is good. . As as usual I was crap and took no photos. So if any one has some good photo of me (Narcissist).. please email / some or send a link to an online sharing platform .2 points

Send softbits a picture of your car and then give them a call - they are very helpful over the phone and can let you know what they can do. I have their storm cover for an FW and it is a very nice piece of kit. I have a half hood on order which they are altering to suit my roll bar brake light. Lead times are long at the moment though!2 points

We've not found a permanent solution yet, but we've managed to patch it and hopefully it'll last long enough for the proper solution to be implemented. Do please report any issues here if you come across something odd (forum related, there's not much I can do about the world).2 points

The BBC ‘reporters’ are certainly showing their bias and have been for way too long imo. As you say, the glee is painfully obvious. As a former BBC employee of 34 years service I’m embarrassed to have to say that. The BBC used to p*** everybody off equally, which was a sign of fairness. Nowadays….not so much.2 points

Day 2 done. Perfect start to the day with breaky in a picturesque spot. The locals love the cars everywhere we go. It’s been hot, currently 33 degrees. 330 odd miles of fast D roads today. Great fun 😎 just arrived at the F1 hotel in Dole not far from the Swiss border for the night. Shower and off for food somewhere! few snaps of today2 points

The Horton Arms, Chadderton at 7.30pm. I'm back now from my Le Mans adventure, so we will go for a short run out then back to the pub where you can listen to some fantastic tales of how fast I was on the parade laps on the full Le Mans circuit Also on Tuesday I'm thinking of going to the NWKCOG meeting at the Stretton Fox near Warrington anyone up for this?1 point

I've got a 'litle' bit of video editing to do- @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman hasn't passed me his cards yet, so more to go at from him too. I've got circa 12.5H of my own Insta 360 footage, 7H from @Greenstreak-Andy D Insta 360 and a few hours from @Stu Faulkner using a GoPro Hero 10. @HB46443 it won't be ready for Insta/Youtube just yet...................... It's not going to be easy working with so much footage as I've got lots of room on my home PC either-1 point

It’s funny, like so many, on previous trips, (and this one), we’ve done the obligatory photos of the cars at Pegasus Bridge; However, while doing the research for museums to visit in this area for our final day in France, I discovered something I’d not heard before! It’s a modern semi-reproduction! (The Caen Canal is wider now, and the old bridge was just too slow, (3 hours to raise, 3 to lower), short and long in the tooth for modern traffic.) The actual bridge was moved and abandoned in one of the flooded areas along the canal, further down. Then, the (self funded) and excellent Pegasus Museum was set up in 2000, with a good in-door display and a lovely out door park around the bridge, with memorials to the fallen, and examples of some of the weaponry used. They had an excellent guided tour, that begins with a short talk around a big “battle board” map/model, inside, and ended with a tour of the bridge, and replica landing glider. (In English).1 point

Great day, well organised, great fun but a long day (travelled up and back on the same day). And as usual great people. I've mixed feelings re the eastern course, it's more technical and therefore harder to learn and get right, over all I think I enjoyed the challenge. I guess one comment, leaning point could be to organise some training, guidance on how to attack that course. I've been to Blyton a few times and I'm still learning the outer circuit the Eastern circuit is different and some guidance on approach and lines would be appreciated.1 point

Couldn’t agree more, only problem is once experienced it tends to ‘raise the bar’ on other runs / passes, that don’t just quite measure up in the same way. Totally epic trip. Andy1 point

Plan for day 3 Early 6 am start. 260 miles and into Italy 🇮🇹 . Hopefully we will hit the first few mountain passes and get a taster of what’s to come for the rest of the week. We are camping tomorrow on a campsite at the base of Mont Blonc.1 point

Epic trip gents, really enjoyed the pics and especially Bagpuss TV. Nice one! Would need to get some UK miles under my belt (without overheating! 🤣) before braving something that big! Maybe one day, would love to do the Stelvio Pass 👍👍1 point

End of day 1. Correction there are seven of us now. (Seven sevens..) What a great start. No delays at the tunnel. Weathers been hot! Few silly teething issues with a couple of the cars but noting that couldn’t be sorted quickly without causing any delays. (Leaky hose etc) 80 odd miles done this afternoon. Currently staying at the Ibis in a nice little town called Douai. Good parking available. Nice French beer. En suite room for a shower etc. We found a nice little restaurant for some grub. Looking forward to munching some miles on day 2. (350 ish miles tomorrow)1 point
