Todays the day the cars all packed. A nice English breaky, then time to say goodbye to the pup and understanding other half and we will be off. The weather ahead for the week looks great. The car (touch wood) is running well. I can’t wait to experience the twisty Alps passes and tick a few bucket list items off! I will of course share the route as we go but we are roughly off down through France, down to the Alps and then diving in and out of France, Italy (Dolomites) and Switzerland and a bit of Austria before looping back round home via Germany, Belgium etc. Estimated 2400 miles trip. Day 1 plan. Setting off at lunchtime and meeting the other guys at Ashford this afternoon (they have some miles to munch this side of the pond, Iam lucky it’s just down the road for me) then we’re off to the Euro tunnel from Folkestone to Calais and then a short 80 odd mile drive this evening to the first stop Douai, France. Looking forward to a 🍺 this eve.8 points

What really makes me chuckle is the implication that politicians of any other stripe than tory are 100% pure, cleaner than driven snow, above reproach etc etc. I don’t trust a single politician of any persuasion. Never give power to someone that seeks it.6 points

Boris should be forever remembered for saving the country from Corbyn. Anything he did after that pales into insignificance. Who now?5 points

End of day 1. Correction there are seven of us now. (Seven sevens..) What a great start. No delays at the tunnel. Weathers been hot! Few silly teething issues with a couple of the cars but noting that couldn’t be sorted quickly without causing any delays. (Leaky hose etc) 80 odd miles done this afternoon. Currently staying at the Ibis in a nice little town called Douai. Good parking available. Nice French beer. En suite room for a shower etc. We found a nice little restaurant for some grub. Looking forward to munching some miles on day 2. (350 ish miles tomorrow)2 points

Have to post this. Such an intense performance. I still can't believe that he's been gone for more than 40 years. I must be old.........2 points

Thanks for the link, I’m a cheapskate too 🤣. Just received a pair of the Lonsdale Camden and they seem excellent for the money. I’m a size 11, but took a risk and ordered some 10.5 as my car is a narrow body and the pedal box is quite tight. They are snug, but perfect for the job, not too uncomfortable for walking short distances either.1 point

Sad day for democracy. The remoaners are already looking to overturn Brexit. And if a conglomeration of Labour, Greens, Lib Dems and SNP gets in with Tony Bliar pulling strings then God help us......1 point

By that time Theresa May couldn't even beat an egg! She only just beat Corbyn in 2017 and she had lost any lustre she may have had by 2019. I wouldn't want to take that chance. Without the scandals would Johnson have been acceptable to the public at large? Not counting those who are avowed anti-Conservatives anyway and would even oppose John the Baptist.1 point

@Benrobson2999 where are you heading? Are you using the auto train to speed up the travel to the alps as we have done on both our trips in 2019 and the one now. Our trip is nearing the end but it’s truly an epic trip. oh, do you have any car to car comms? looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Andy1 point

Oh I forgot to add, I am normally a size 9 / 44 euro size, on the Lonsdale shoes of the ones I tried , every one of them needed one size higher than I am. So from size 9 to size 10. The assistant brought out a 9.5 but that was too tight as well - the 10 was perfect .👍1 point

I have a large disorganised folder of receipts! From memory mostly from Car Builder Solutions and Kit Car Direct, but also Demon Tweeks and a bit from sellers on ebay. MX5 specific stuff from MX5 parts and BOFI. A lot of the more basic parts I fabricated, e.g. brackets, interior panels, dash, but also fabricated the exhaust manifold once I had learned to weld.1 point

Would it be really cheeky to ask the Master Planner (Nav) to post the route - key stops/roads/hotels etc or TomTom file? Cheers1 point

Got a knock at the door this morning, next door's car would not start, the Westy was in the drive anyway as I was going out, so jump started this Kia Sportage with the Westy - yay. Sorry no pics of the actual jump leads over the fence as (erm) I had to get creative in making them longer that quite honestly I would not show on here ( involved long steel rods that's all I will say 🤣)1 point

Absolutely cracking track and what a drummer! RIP Neil Peart. Would have loved to see this line up live!1 point

When I've done it, I've put oversized cardboard on front and rear face, then taped round the hole thing with parcel tape to cover the sides.1 point

It's not often I get to drive the car just for the heck of it, but today I did just that - yay Drove perhaps 30 miles and got lost, and went down some lane to find these at the side of the road. Now I know what this is But no clue what use this has on a farm, if someone knows please help me... Great day was had, but it did rain despite the forecast saying it wouldn't - UK eh...1 point

This morning at the Yonderman 👍 Minutes later it was in bits so I could reattach the clutch pedal clevis pin.... driving with the clutch pedal laid flat on the floor made life quite interesting 🤦♂️. Luckily I only needed a couple of clutchless changes before I figured out I could lift the pedal with my toes and still operate the clutch!1 point

Hi guys. An update on the Omex ECU/loom kit. Omex have come back to me via email with information. Overnight they put the price of the ECU up 20% and the loom up 25%. So with the extra connections and sensors required it comes to a total of £1251 Inc vat plus postage. I'm not going to comment on that considering we had already paid Westfield for it. But on the good side Liam at Tornado Systems has been very helpful and is trying to negotiate a better deal on it as they are an Omex dealer and were surprised at the price hike. Again, I will keep you posted. M.0 points
