Hi! Future Westfield owner from Holland here, Seven type cars have always been my dream cars. A recent death in the family has shown me that life is not a rehearsal, so a Westfield it is! Choice is not big in NL (only about 9 for sale atm!). Still in the information sponge phase, so learning about the cars, versions etc.2 points

Apologies, the drone will not be coming along on this event, we are still meeting up and going for breakfast at The Yondermann though, and can go further afterwards for those that are able. @Tricky can you believe it, my facebook memories tell me it is 8 years ago today that we met at the Devonshire Arms, Cracoe, Skipton with the WSCC Yorkshire group on the joint meet with the Caterhams. I remember the A1 was closed on the way home and it took you ages to get back.2 points

So after owning the car for just a few weeks, my first big task was to do away with the previous DIY boot lid and fit a closing/opening boot lid. First stop was the for sale section. Managed to pic up a really nice CF boot lid from Daf which arrived yesterday. While waiting for the package to arrive I spent a evening carefully measuring the roll bar as installed on my car and creating a CAD model of it. The idea being that I would be able to create a template that I could over up to the lid that would accurately allow me to know where to cut holes. I used a 3mm tolerance on the template to give me a very small amount of fine adjustment. So tonight’s task was to mark up the lid. First under the car and undo the bottom stay bolts then the top which allowed me to remove the raking stays and the old boot lid. Then I offered up the boot lid, covered a few areas with masking take and started to set out its final position. Once happy I 3D printed a template and lay it on top of the lid. Template was designed to butt against the vertical of each side of the roll bar. Now the nail biting bit. With everything marked is was time to get the tools out and start cutting/grinding and sanding. A hour later and hey presto, it all seemed to fit. Still a mm or so fettling needed but the dry fit was a success! Next step is to measure the boot box sides and print some nice covers to hide the cuts for the stays in the boot.1 point

I remember that evening very well. Didn't take helmet, wore safety glasses/shades. Forgot it goes dark! No windscreen, no glasses, hiding behind the aero screen at 70, my forehead was a bug's grave yard when I got home.1 point

I reluctantly agreed a while ago and regret bothering, as I did not have a gas hob the chap said he could not do the gas so only the electric was swapped so I've still got to read a meter and supply a reading, and as I take a note of the reading quarterly anyway I still read the meter. It generally then told me what I knew, the electric shower was very costly to run and my son liked to stand under it. All the smart meter did was highlight this and make me more annoyed, it made no difference to son (going to uni and paying his own bills sorted that out). The smart meter bit was not very smart and kept changing to all sorts of random display screens, the supporting documentation was useless and finding the screen we wanted was a convoluted process. it ended up in a draw somewhere. When they link to a cloud service that we can link apps to from phone, Ipad, PC etc then I'd agree that they are smart. Worse point for me though, we've solar panels and with the old meter when it was sunny you could see the meter running backwards when we were generating more then we're using, I know it should not happen but it was great to watch especially when you knew you'd also got stuff switched on. The smart meter stopped that.1 point

I've got my old girl in the air at the moment for an oil change, I'll try and get underneath and get some pictures later (and include the part number of the starter too)1 point

So this is how the boot box came. To fit around the RAC bar the lid has been cut into 3, with the sides being fixed in place. This leaves a 780mm openable section. Still not got that far with fixing the sides, but this is my plan. Between the lower and upper sections there is a small D gasket. Where the sides are going to be fixed in place, plan is to remove this gasket and lay a bead of black automotive sealant. This will act as both a adhesive and sealant. As for the boot box, it’s been cut to allow the raking bars to pass through. I can’t claim credit for this as it was done by the previous owner. But I do have plans to 3D model and print some covers that sit on the sides of the box and again seal these in place to stop water ingress from below.1 point

Cheers Rob hoping my next weekend I’ll be ready to step out the house so if there’s any meets on I could tag along. Yeah I knew when I bought this I would be changing bits as it wasn’t to my taste, would of been easier waiting to find one that is closer but it would of been a lot older probably and done a lot more miles so thought this would be a good base. My problem is when I start into something I can’t stop looking and (buying) but my wallet doesn’t agree🤣 That size wheel looks ok, def need quick release so I’ll go down the route of changing the column with GoRace. May go for a cheaper wheel to get me going then replace with a nicer one down the road.1 point

@SBozzy, when you are back fighting fit we will get you out to see (and sit in) some other member cars in the Peaks etc. In terms of steering wheel, you'll see people using anything from 260mm to 300+mm diameter, suede, leather etc. I tried a few and went for the Momo Team 280mm. Sounds like you've already caught the horribly wallet destroying Westfield disease called "upgraditus" 😂1 point
