  1. Hi everyone, I collected my Westfield today and joined the club. New car day is up there with the best! It’s a 1998 SE 1700 Crossflow producing 120bhp. It’s a recently completed lockdown project by a chap who’s done a really nice job on it. I’m not a mechanic but interested in learning so I wanted something ready to drive and this ticks all the boxes. As a beginner in these cars I felt it sensible to start with modest power, as much as I love going fast. The first drive was spectacular, I couldn’t stop smiling. The noise from the carbs is addictive. Driving on familiar roads was awesome and something I’ve dreamt about doing in one of these cars for over 20 years. Rather unfortunately I stopped for fuel during the 2.5 hour drive home and it wouldn’t start again. I’m getting the “click” but it won’t turn over. A nice bystander gave me and push and I jump started it to carry on home. This evening it still won’t start so I’ve popped it on the trickle charger which read less than 50% charge. My gut feeling is the starter needs some loving. The first modification will be raising the steering wheel a bit for more knee room. I can’t really drive too fast as my knees are in the way of my hands at the moment. Anyone have any pointers here? The seat is bolted into position as far back as it can go. I’m 6’3” but must have long legs 😅 I hope to see some of you out and about. cheers, Dave

  2. Welcome from Lincolnshire 😀😀. I normally travel to join in with the Peak District group which is really active and well run (have to say that as @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative is probably reading this). If you would like to join in sometime, keep a look out on the forum and drop me a note and I’ll try to arrange a convoy there!!

  8. Welcome! Yes, there is a fairly easy way: on the main forum page, you just need to scroll mostnof the way down and a list of upcoming events will appear. I'm not sure if it includes every event, but most of them are there at least

  14. Ok, thanks Julie. Normally I’d have gone wet or dry, but given it’s only a few weeks to the Euro trip, I better not risk it, just in case.

  15. I have just watched the weather too, blimey it looks like it is really gonna rain, is everyone happy to cancel? @AndrewBClarke @neptune@Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman, Luke and Nigel have already said no if it is wet.

  16. Some extra photos of a few of the other parts that are included Ran out of time to be able to take any more pictures. Still need to take photos of the following: Full new front brake setup wirh new M16 calipers discs etc FW fuel tank and mounting frame Full Duratec exhaust manifold & system. Driveshafts with new joints etc. Front uprights with alloy hubs. FW bodywork but this is being stored at a friend's unit for safe keeping, and probably loads of other stuff that I keep remembering (must be an age thing).

  17. Although remotely possible, I just have too many holidays booked in July leaving very little time left to earn a living! Next year I’m booking track days THEN holidays 🙄

  18. Thank you for the kind thoughts. One of the things I like about my Westfield is you can store it for a while when you need to focus on other things in life then it's there ready to put a smile back on your face when your ready. I've not spoken to Natasha yet but it's good to know she usually tries to sells unwanted places on behalf of customers. I'll give her a call early next week unless someone comes forward.

  19. Surely the weather can change a whole 4 weeks in advance Always found umbrellas useless popup gazebo work much better and cover a much larger area and you will have somewhere nice and dry to eat your sandwiches and drink your ginger ale

  20. Check hubs @Hafod first most likely out, good luck getting any response from hi-spec I had to wait 6months for a new set of hubs once they admitted mine had run out, got them back and fitted to the car and still have the pulsing, seems the hub run out in turn has warped the disc too. so best to check both parts separately, before spending your cash. I do have a spare pair of hubs that are free of run out of you want to try them first? If you do split the disc from hub (for measuring), be sure it goes back in the same orientation otherwise the pulsing and vibration will be a lot worse, ask @aeg where his fillings are after giving mine a bash on track 😂.

  24. Second the suggestion of Adge, but if you are anywhere near Launceston you will find SRD on Newport Industrial Estate, run by Mark Shillaber, you can check him out on Facebook under SRD or his other page is under his own name. He’s a bit of a legend in South West hill climbing circles as an expert engine builder and also his prowess behind the wheel, hope that’s helpful.

  26. Hi Rob, thanks for the tips. I think the seat is already bolted straight to the floor so no runners to remove. I’ll give the steering wheel QR a go though, thanks for the tip. I only need a small amount of space to make all the difference so that might do it.

  27. Are you sure it's the disc? Some owners: @CraigHew & @LukeW have found the hubs to be machined out of true. Have a search on here. Also talk with @LukeW before sending anything back to Hispec. Have you checked the run-out on your hubs?

  29. Hi! It obviously makes a huge difference where you are in Cornwall and hence my suggestion might be pants... If you are anywhere in North Cornwall, maybe even close to the Devon border I can highly recommend Dave Baskerville in Barnstaple. Ever so knowledgeable and enthusiastic + very reasonably priced + all round good guy. A full rolling road tune with him is <£100! and he'll do a tune without rolling road if he thinks it won't help = not after your cash, just loves to see a car run properly.

  32. Mrs BobMet and I had a great time on the London (Brooklands Museum) to Brighton Sports and Kit Car Run yesterday. Enjoyable 74 mile route of through the countryside following the tulip navigation guide provided, a lunch stop at Parham House and Gardens, culminating in arrival on Madeira Drive and the inevitable fish and chips. There were different routes for the Classic Cars, Modern Classics and Kit/Sports Cars, with a huge variety of motors making it down all of which added to the interest. 75 entrants on the Sports and Kit Run, of which 3 were Westfields, perhaps some more next year? Here's a few photos but if anyone is thinking about it for next year then I'll be happy to share some more about the experience. Thanks to @SteveB21for the departure photo.

  33. Hi the weather is not looking good for tomorrow. It's forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms at home and Matlock. If the weather stays the same unfortunately I won't coming as I'm a fine weather driver. Sorry
