Well, spring has reluctantly sprung and my autocross season has finally opened.I made a number of changes over the long Montana winter and was excited (and a bit nervous) to see how they worked when put to the test. This first event of the season was hosted in Helena, Montana at a police and fire training facility where they learn to slide firetrucks around! The place is huge and there is absolutely nothing to hit so the speeds are high for autocross. This means that there are lots of high speed violent lane-change maneuvers where the car is moving at 80 mph and one needs to change lanes and back again as quickly as possible. Honestly this can be scary stuff and it takes full commitment and trust that the car will be with you when you flick it at 80+ mph. This past winter I installed a new Siltech +35 sidetrack front suspension, changed the spring rates to suit the different spring angle, made a new front ARB to work with the Siltech parts and lastly I made a new ultralight rear spoiler to help keep the rear end from wanting to pass the front during high speed transitions. Saturday was cold (50°F) but dry in the morning and the brand new Avons needed a few runs to get properly scrubbed in so I could tell what the car was doing. After a few runs the car was telling me it wanted a stiffer front bar and that helped with turn-in while still keeping the rear end in line. I made a small shock adjustment (one click softer) on the Nitrons and my last run of the morning felt very good and my confidence was growing. After a lunch break it got just a bit warmer and grip was improved and I felt even better in the car I was able to set the fastest time of day (FTD) over a supercharged Ariel Atom and a full-race 600hp Corvette on 14” wide (!) slicks. My winning margin was .6 seconds on an 80 second run. Not a huge margin but it proved to be a winning one. Sunday was warmer (70°F) so the grip was much better and the course was faster (different courses for each day) and after adding a bit of toe out to the front to aide turn-in on the tighter parts of the course the car felt just right. It felt planted and supple and it could really work with the surface instead of against it. The turn-in was very crisp but the rear end stayed in line even at high speeds. With my old narrow track front it would turn in well but then you’d need to mind the tail - now I can stay on the gas without having to worry that the rear end will come around. Simply brilliant. I set FTD again this time with a 2 second margin on a 77 second run. The new widetrack front is no doubt mostly responsible for the change. The rear spoiler might aide a bit at high speed but the car felt awesome even during 60 mph full throttle, long radius sweeper turns. I’m sure I have more room as a driver to take advantage of the new set up and that will hopefully come as the season progresses and I gain more confidence. I wish I had photos of the car in action but I had no one to take any so some static shots will have to do. The first is of the car loaded on the trailer to make the trip to Helena (100 miles), the next is the pits for the event with my car and a 500+ HP Nissan and the Supercharged Atom, and the last two are of my car safely back home with lots of pick up from pulling off the course and over dirty pavement with hot tires. Thanks to Siltech for helping make me quicker. Dennis went above and beyond the call of duty to answer the countless emails to get everything sorted out for my car. The next race is next weekend. Hoping for sun and warm pavement! Thanks for reading. Dave9 points

If any one cares, this year Rush Motorsport is taking the step from "averagely skilled, wannabe track day hero" to "distinctly below average, hopefully don't come last circuit racer". Lets be honest, its a mid life crisis. Its something I've always wanted to do and now I've got to 40 and finally have a child, I felt like I was running out of time. The stars have aligned, I'm in the fortunate position to be able to afford it and the wife is being surprisingly supportive, without which it would be impossible. So what does this year look like? A few arrive and drives in BRSCC MX5 Clubman Championship: Silverstone Grand Prix - 21st May Oulton Park - 23rd July I'm going to try to get a drive at Donington in September, before buying my own car and doing the full championship next year. Its 16 rounds over 8 days, each event it 15 min quali, then 2 x 15 min races. What is nice about the Clubman series is it all happens on one day - which is great if you are time constrained like me (Those heady days of sunny afternoons spent in the garage with @Simon Waterfall Syman84 tinkering with our oily bits are long gone). So yeah, that's that. I'm testing the car at Silverstone on 20th because i've not driven the GP track before, don't plan to test before Oulton or Donny - its gets really expensive really quickly. I'm being realistic with my expectations, the racing is close and the fast guys are A LOT faster than I am. Grids are 30+ cars, there are 35 already for Silverstone and people are still booking. A top 20 finish for me would feel like a world championship win, so my goal for the first one is, stay out of trouble and end both races in a higher position than I started. The point of the thread is that if anyone has any questions or is considering it, ask away and I'll be as honest and open as I can. The raw footage will be on my youtube channel, I might do a vlog if I can be bothered and you can watch the races live on BRSCC youtube channel.3 points

One of our regular attendees at the Falcon has a S2000, also in red, he may be there on Thursday. There are others that turn up occasionally.2 points

Some excellent red cars I see Derbyshire way…all of them would look fine next to my Honda Fireblade 954 in Red/black! My garage is now looking less cluttered but I just don’t have enough room for a Westfield, need to make enquires for a long term storage solution as this is my only real problem, what does everyone else do with their vehicles? Secure storage runs from around £45 a week..any cheaper ideas? I was reading about Curborough on the pages here and see you people are not far away including Coleshill for Breakfast! There are some fab places down here if you want good food and coffee, my recommendation would be Cotswold Gin cafe and shop with plenty of parking most days but idea to sit in the sun with a gin and tonic The S2000 would be ideal, like to chat and look over the build…so many questions lol…a spin? Thanks guys…this forum does create some interest. Have a good week. Ian2 points

Thanks all! Looking forward to it! Not sure yet! I'm sure I'll put a few words on the forum. Channel is here . Less than a week to go - how am I feeling? Completely unprepared and I've not really had chance to give it enough thought to be nervous. I've got a heck of a week; Tuesday - Portsmouth - (4hrs from here) Wednesday - Luton --> Amsterdam early doors Thursday - Amsterdam --> Luton late doors Stay in MK then straight off for testing on Friday morning, which is lucky as I still don't know which way the track goes and havent watched any youtube tutorials. | Quali & Race on Saturday, watch the C1 24hr for a bit then home Sunday and family holiday on Monday... Got the car packed up today which made it all seem a bit more real. I had a chat with the grandiosely titled Team Principle (haha!) on Thursday night which has helped too now I know a little more about how the actual process works.2 points

@Iplodius there's quite a few of us just north of you as @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairmansays. If there are no Peak District runs, we often meet up at Curborough and sometimes we tag onto other car meets (like the Coleshill Auto Breakfast Meet that you can find on Facebook). I often struggle to get to the evening meets (normally taking my lad to Cadets!) but more than happy for you to come along to one of our weekend meets (normally posted on the events page on the Forum) and give you a spin 👍 Yesterday at Curborough we had 4 Westfields (a xflow, a zetec on ITB's, a supercharged Zetec and my S2000) plus a Yamaha R1 engined MNR.1 point

My oxygen dipped to 92 . Was sent to hospital. I waited outside whilst wife enquired what to do and where to go. They said go in and wait in corner. We explained what it might be. When got to see nurse she ranted and ranted on why I had gone to hospital with suspected covid !! Needless to say I counted to ten and then retaliated.1 point

@RobH72 that mentioned the Falcon Meet, earlier has a Mega S2000, but if you can make it to the pre-run meet ups in the Peak District, there are sometimes 5 or 6 Mega S2000's and often one or two Mega S2000S's (The supercharged version of the Westfield S2000).1 point

Hi @Iplodius, you will be welcome at the Falcon whatever the mode of transport (shamefully I will be in a turbo diesel!). Sue and I are ex-bikers too so know where you are coming from and can confirm that a Westfield is a great replacement. Hope to see you on Thursday 19th at the Falcon, from around 7.30pm. Also, thanks to @RobH72 and @AndrewBClarke for the kind words too. Martyn1 point

Thanks, that’s reassuring and appreciated, glad your mum came through it fine. 😊👍 I communicated the news to to rest of the committee via WhatsApp with the above photo, and @Mark Redpath - WSCC Membership Secretary said from that photo I was pregnant. I replied if I was, I wanted to know who the father was, because I don’t remember a thing! 🤬1 point

After a day eating great food and ice creams on one @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative days out I need to call the truck of shame🤦♂️, with loss of drive and a horrible noise. This is what I found today when removing the gearbox and stripped down. Good news, is it’s all back together and had a little drive around the local area.1 point
