If any one cares, this year Rush Motorsport is taking the step from "averagely skilled, wannabe track day hero" to "distinctly below average, hopefully don't come last circuit racer". Lets be honest, its a mid life crisis. Its something I've always wanted to do and now I've got to 40 and finally have a child, I felt like I was running out of time. The stars have aligned, I'm in the fortunate position to be able to afford it and the wife is being surprisingly supportive, without which it would be impossible. So what does this year look like? A few arrive and drives in BRSCC MX5 Clubman Championship: Silverstone Grand Prix - 21st May Oulton Park - 23rd July I'm going to try to get a drive at Donington in September, before buying my own car and doing the full championship next year. Its 16 rounds over 8 days, each event it 15 min quali, then 2 x 15 min races. What is nice about the Clubman series is it all happens on one day - which is great if you are time constrained like me (Those heady days of sunny afternoons spent in the garage with @Simon Waterfall Syman84 tinkering with our oily bits are long gone). So yeah, that's that. I'm testing the car at Silverstone on 20th because i've not driven the GP track before, don't plan to test before Oulton or Donny - its gets really expensive really quickly. I'm being realistic with my expectations, the racing is close and the fast guys are A LOT faster than I am. Grids are 30+ cars, there are 35 already for Silverstone and people are still booking. A top 20 finish for me would feel like a world championship win, so my goal for the first one is, stay out of trouble and end both races in a higher position than I started. The point of the thread is that if anyone has any questions or is considering it, ask away and I'll be as honest and open as I can. The raw footage will be on my youtube channel, I might do a vlog if I can be bothered and you can watch the races live on BRSCC youtube channel.4 points

How about a Trapper's Hat or Sherlock Holmes deer stalker? Both have an under-chin fastening, and neither will make you look eccentric at all!3 points

I also have a trappers hat, but it's too big for my head and stays still as I turn my head, which can be annoying at junctions. So I wear my WSCC beanie under it.2 points

I have a v8, so probably not best. I have a large tank that may be worth modifying but I though I would see what's about first. Thanks for replying though๐1 point

You can always get a balaclava, and when you forget to take it off you get free fuel ๐1 point

Interesting, @CosKev was it just the more modern looking kits, (they insist on photos of your vehicle). Or a mix? Car wise, the twenty year rule would certainly catch out groups like the Honda S2000 clubs attendance, (or donors, as we called them along with a number of other "modern classics." Would be a major issue on the huge Porsche Club stand, for that matter!1 point

I shall be replacing my 56 plate 2.2 litre X-Type diesel sooner or later after ten years of ownership and I have also decided against diesel. My reasoning is different though, I do relatively few miles these days so fuel consumption is less important than once it might have been, and diesels aren't good for short runs either. At the moment we use the X-Type for longer runs and the Good Lady's Nissan Leaf for local journeys. It doesn't care whether it's cold or not and a hundred yards or fifteen miles are all the same as far as engine wear is concerned. But paying two lots of insurance and two lots of depreciation etc., is a nonsense if there's a car which would cover both requirements. The best I have found is a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It is plug-in so cheap to fuel mostly, it properly self charges so you can have a full charge when you arrive in a ULEZ destination, and the electric range is up to 30 miles so local trips are covered cheaply and without starting the IC engine. Sadly Mitsubishi have left UK for new sales, but their service centres are still here so maintenance wouldn't be a worry. They command a good price at the moment for good recent models.1 point

baseball cap on a retractable lanyard(as used for work security passes etc) works for me 99% of the time. Occasionally a gust can catch the beck of the cap, or if you tilt your head to drink etc. I'm aero screened too.1 point

After seeing this I managed to get tickets for Sunday night in Plymouth. A great night with a lot of Sid's early stuff.1 point

Looking for a new daily driver myself and decided against a diesel. There are plenty of towns and cities looking to ban diesels from their centres during the day and that situation is not going to go away. If that isn't something that one needs to think about then OK. But I am in a similar position with a use case that takes me in to town centres during the working day so it's on my radar...1 point

11 Westfield's and a Porsche met at McDonald's. The Porsche Owners Corner Ooh, how did that pic get there Some of us in McDonald's @aeg and Becky had very kindly helped Hedley personalise the seating in his car earlier this week and here he was securing the fuses Time to move it and we had a pose through Matlock Bath, got our photo took there, then we were off up the twisty Via Gellia, round to catch the twisty Elton Esses before having the flowing Bentley Brook road, oh bliss. What lovely roads and beautiful views for a line of 11 cars to experience. Lunch was at The Bentley Brook Inn. Hedley has such a wonderful nature and laughed as a tractor was planted on his nose cone The carvery was on and was the best dinner we have had yet in the Peak District. Note to self, come here again! We enjoyed the warm sun in the garden and lingered longer than usual, thank you to Hedley for the extra drinks See Julian, you do take a lovely photo The Bentley Brook Inn The journey home was not without issue. Luke met us en route and led us into Bakewell where I picked up a funny noise. We all pulled over (ABC, Big Andy, us and Luke) My tyre wasn't flat but a quick scoot around the block to listen resulted in Big Andy pulling a screw out of it, it was at an angle and had not penetrated the tyre luckily. We didn't make it past Adam's Happy Hen's without calling in for tray bakes and ice creams, thanks to ABC for sharing the Bakewell (my favourite). Jaaag at AHH, smelled as nice as it looked Thanks for coming everyone, thanks Hedley for the filming and the 'super' noise as you flew past, it's been another great day out xxx1 point

Thanks @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative for another fab day out! Glynn, Hedley, Tony, John and myself met up bright and early this morning at the A50/A38 services. The supercharged duo of course had to make one of many stops for fuel..... making all these whooshing and stabbed pidgeon noises seems to be an expensive hobby! ๐ Then we were off up the back roads through Wirksworth to stretch the cars legs before landing at Maccie D's. A cheeky mcmuffin and then we were off on some of my favourite Peaks roads before stopping for lunch served with a liberal sprinkling of banter! Cracking line up of cars, including a stunning 911 ๐ Great to see you all ๐1 point

A friendly bump to the top of the bill for those on yesterday's McWesty run, and anyone else up for a fun day/weekend.1 point

A good first run for the McWesty season, thanks John. Though I didn't need the tyre smoke cloud creating emergency stop as a numpty in an electric tupperware box pulled out in front of me from a side road, mid Westy line travelling at open road speed! If I get hungry, I'll come up with a chippie dinner run as per last year - June/July. Next (so far) scheduled McWesty run is the Scottish Lowlans Navigation Mystery Run Mystery Run on Saturday 13th Aug - other areas, please join in if you like. Details here...1 point

Thought Iโd just add that I had a test drive in this earlier in the week. Itโs a fantastic vehicle and someone will have a lot of fun in it. Engine was great, performance even better and it stopped on a dime when required. Lots of accessories included and Tom is very welcoming. The only reason I didnโt make an offer was that Iโm now hoping to stack a Westfield on top of my Cobra in the garage โฆ and after measuring I donโt have the ceiling height to accommodate the cage.1 point
