  3. Hey everyone, I know my kits, but there's never harm in learning more and I learn so much from your build posts so keep them coming! I've been helping out my neighbour (who is also our client) with his Robin Hood repairs and I've loved every minute of it, I am insured to drive it and have been out for a couple of blats - even though it's my first time back in a manual since passing my test many years ago 😄 so yes, before you ask, I did stall it more than once hahahaa. On a serious note, this is just an example of how important it is for me to fully learn about what we insure because just selling a product isn't what we are about, we are so proud to be a part of your community, tag along to meets and hang out with you at events - because that's what the kit world is about, getting out and enjoying the cars and their journeys. But here we go, my little gearbox change adventure! https://blog.aplan.co.uk/robin-hood-gearbox-change/ Please share your builds below! I love to see them! Carlie P.s. see you at Stoneleigh

  8. If you were convincing someone they should buy a Westfield/7-esque, who had never driven or even seen one, “Westfields are great, however, watch out for…, don’t…, make sure you…, never…, always… and you’ll freeze your nuts off”, you’d never convince anyone... ...Until they drive one, and the top of their head is blown off in the wind because their grin is so wide!

  9. Julie’s Battle of the Odo’s competition is back for another year, and if you need an excuse to drive your Westfield, here is one - not that you should need an excuse, of course. The MOT certificate records an odometer reading. This competition is looking for the member who has the biggest mileage difference between their Westfield’s 2021 and 2022 MOT certificate odometer readings. In my opinion getting the ‘Westfield’ miles in makes you a winner anyway. The prize for first place is £50 worth of vouchers to spend at the Westfield Factory Parts Department and for this year only they will also receive the Chris Smith award. Second and third place will get you £10 and £5, respectively, off your membership renewal in WSCC for next year. What are you waiting for? Get driving! THE BORING BITS • The mileage must be in a Westfield. • The competition is open to WSCC members only, not the Committee or Area Organisers. • The closing date is midnight 8th November 2022. • Email your mileage to peak@wscc.co.uk with a copy of your MOT certificate attached. • The judge’s decision is final. • You must agree to your entry being published in Westfield World magazine and online in the WSCC forum. • Prizes must be redeemed within 12 months, are non-transferable and no substitute prize or cash equivalent will be offered. • If you have won first place in this competition before you cannot enter it again. • The winner this year will receive the Chris Smith Award.

  11. hi, i have recently bought a bike engine westfield and I'm in the process of swapping to a car engine. i wrongly assumed i would just tell the dvla the engine number and capacity. Having just looked into it further they want a receipt from the manufacturer of the engine, which i don't have as its a used engine and an engineers report from the installer, which is me. has anyone else gone through the process recently?

  14. As Stephen says, clean but don't polish.
    1 point
  15. Don't polish it! However yes clean it. Warm water, a bit of mild detergent and an old toothbrush would be as far as I would go, then dry thoroughly, and whatever it then looks like is what you will end up with. Just my opinion.

  16. Running the dehumidifier also generates heat so its not a total waste of energy I had one in my flat many years ago that had poor ventilation and it stopped mould forming and really helped dry things out... Don't worry about small air leaks etc it will genuinely help dry things out especially after showers etc.. I was told to just keep the loo seat down!!

  18. Thanks Stuart, I have asthma anyway and it always gets bad over winter, so using this dehum has made a huge difference to my breathing to, no clue as to how much the electric is costing me, but I am now putting health before wealth (not always how it was before sadly) As far as 60% goes yes that does appear to be the upper most limit according to the internet, its sat at 46 right now, so I may just start experimenting with levels and see when my breathing gets bad and set that as my upper limit. I am ashamed to say this but when the humidity gauge was first placed in my bedroom it read 89 % - no wonder I have all sorts of ongoing health issues is it !!!. I did also with the dehum bring back one of these airclean fan things, from the Wirral its quite a large bulky affair and does work, it is supposed to remove allergens and purify the air, I thought I would try the dehum first though.

  31. The only thing I would add to the above is make sure you have decent footwear. I found my whole driving experience transformed after I brought some driving shoes.

  32. Definitely this ^^^ The non-assisted brakes will work well, but you really need to put your foot into it to get maximum braking force compared to your daily driver. You’ll get used to it but until you do, give yourself more space between you and the car in front of you. On the fuel tank bit, plan ahead. As has been mentioned, the fuel gauge (which has the following levels: full, still full, suddenly half full, still half full but twitching needle, suddenly almost empty, and five miles later empty) is mostly for entertainment and is not to be trusted nearly as much as the trip odometer. You must plan to fill up by 110 miles under normal use. If you push it much further than that, try not to make hard right turns or fly around roundabouts as you may get fuel starvation as the remaining fuel sloshes to the left side of the tank, and have the engine die under you. I did just that going into a petrol station and luckily had just enough forward momentum to coast to the pumps, hopping out with a “yeah, I meant to do that” flair…! On that front, don’t get in a hurry when filling up. Actually, let me put it another way - you won’t be able to fill up quickly. It’s just the way it is, I’m afraid. Go slow to avoid frustration and just live with it, because TADT - They All Do That. You’ll know when you and the car are one when you develop a method of sliding into the car without the seat rucking your shirt up your back as you do. There is, however, no elegant way to extricate yourself out of the car. DO NOT use the windscreen as a support getting in or out, and ensure your passengers don’t either unless you want to spend lots of money replacing it or fixing the damage to the scuttle. Lastly, after showing off the engine, ensure the bonnet is properly secured, lest you become a member of the Flying Bonnet Club. The site of an expensive piece of GRP suddenly departing at 70mph and sailing majestically over your head to hit the vehicle behind you or get run over by a lorry is best avoided. These are all just pieces of learned wisdom, none of which should detract from what you’re about to enjoy. Wishing you many years and miles of happiness together.

  33. Thanks to Tigger for his hard work and dedication in bringing us these results. But they do highlight a curiosity. As my class (W2) is poorly supported - I was the only speed series entrant - if I went round at walking pace, or beat Terry by 10 seconds, I'd still get 100 points. So effectively I'm awarded points for turning up rather than my performance. I'm not complaining, I do realise that having a fair points scoring system is nigh on impossible.
