  3. Probably not the wrong audience, probably worth telling. I did have a career in explosives, I was in the Royal Engineers, we built things, we blew things up, many tales of bridges that fell into rivers, the CO's dog almost being blown up, and inappropriate things to do with PE-4 (Plastic Explosive) During the big NATO exercises in Germany, our job was to add a bit of battle reality, setting off small charges in safe places, trees and trenches mainly. Problem was, after the exercise, when everyone else went home, we were left with days of work disposing of unused explosives. In theory, we would go to an artillery range and set up dozens of small charges spaced out in time, in reality, well, we wanted to go home too. One time we thought we would be clever and packed 80Kg of PE-4 into a near-intact battle tank on an artillery range, we went back a full 500 metres and set it off. Not being able to resist a peek over the top, what we saw next...the turret of the tank, 5 tons or so of it, bouncing slowly towards us in the manner of a Barnes Wallace invention, shrapnel whizzing past our ears.

  4. This does appear to be the case. I am yet to attend a meeting for various reasons (car off the road, house renovation, child on the way etc) and have never met him in person, however I had a run-in with him after I very mildly challenged him on a more outrageous post than most, after which I had to rapidly unfollow/defriend him. He claimed at the time he's view do not effect the club/meets etc, but as I arrived for car meets, and left for his absurd views, you can make up your own mind. Did renew membership once, but have/will now allow to lapse. Might reconsider if the car i back on the round, but we shall see. The local WSCC meet (Wirral and N Wales) do a lot of runs out locally and a reasonable monthly pub meet, and I also attend the monthly Cheshire and N. Staffs meet over Warrington way, who where running good pub carpark meets all over the summer. Daniel

  5. May I say how saddened I am by the passing of this true gent.I obtained my 11 chassis 109 in Feb 1986 and it still gives me enormous pleasure on the occasional dry day. What i recall most was the pleasure of dealing with a man of immense integrity who was possibly the only one who treated his customers with absolute concern and consideration in a field where everyone else sold kits for what they could get for them whilst Chris sold them for what they were worth. What a difference. The help I was given by Chris will be remembered always . To Eileen Holly ,all the family and all those who were lucky enough to have known this true gentleman my sincerest condolences Alvin Cohen Gerrards Cross Bucks

  8. Welcome to prospective Westfield ownership Gareth. Believe you have made a wise first step by joining the WSCC. Perversely even though I’m the Dorset AO I live on the Somerset levels just east of Bridgwater, so not far from you. I am a little smaller than you, but you’re welcome to try my car for size (wide body, lowered floors, removable steering wheel). May be on your radar already, don’t know your shoe size, but there are variations in footwell width dependent on chassis type. For example my footwell is narrow and I find I need to squeeze my feet (size 😎 into narrow shoes (find race boots ideal) to avoid hitting two pedals at once! Just something to bear in mind when looking. Best of luck in your search. Adge

  9. I didn't mind driving my Westfield in the wet, on trackdays or in competition, but then again there's wet and there's WET. Thsi is me coming into the paddock area at the Club trackday at Cottesmore in August 2011. I don't mind admitting that it scared me to drive on track that day. The spray was such that I couldn't see where I was going, and the aquaplaining meant that once I got up to about 80mph, I started cadence braking half way down the straight as I was convinced that otherwise if I kept on accelerating I'd end up in Lincoln High Street. Oh, and by luntime I was so soaked to the skin that I loaded the car back on the trailer, stripped off my clothes down to my underwear, and stood in front of the fire to try and dry out, and warm up. And then I drove home. Nothign would have persuaded me to go out again that afternoon.

  10. Hi, Welcome from sunny ole Minehead! There are quite a few of us nearby. You’re a couple of inches taller than me but would say a wide body with lowered floors would be a good starting point. you’re welcome to have a sit in mine to try it for size if that would be helpful. There’s no ‘standard’ fit as most have their own peculiarities etc, but would give you an idea. We have a WhatApp group for the Devon & Somerset folks which is where we tend to organise drives / meets and ask all the tricky questions! If you message me with your mb number I will add you to the group! Good luck with the search! Sean

  11. Some might be wondering who you are 😉 Some may say you're a mobile road block on track, but I'd not 😉

  12. relatively small differences in exposure on even a phone camera, can cause the image file size to rocket. (Typically, the "camera" is capturing way more shadow detail. The funny thing is when you view the picture, the automatic image correction functions of whatever you're viewing the file on may well then adjust the pictures exposure to look "normal". It's just all the extra info is still there in the original file.

  14. Here’s mine with new ProRace 15” x 7J rims and R888Rs, bought from Westfield. Got them delivered and on before Christmas. Had been on 16” x 7J from when built. Westfield supplied fitted 205 tyres all round (as per my request), but once I had them I decided to go down to 195 at the front as the 205 width is something like 214 in reality! The rears really fill the arches well. Now I’ve a nice set of 205s for when I rip through the rears and a friendly local tyre dealer who is more than happy to fit them! A trip to @Siltech Racingplanned for Spring upgrades to: +35 wide track, micro-adjustable rear suspension, shocks & springs and ARBs to replace all the original kit (from 2003/4 build). Dennis has been great throughout the whole process and I’m looking forward to meeting him and Andy when I go to get the work done! Cheers P

  16. Great to see you all again and I hope you managed to get a nice breakfast or lunch for the heavy lifting 😉 Over the next six months I'm still hoping to get our on one or two of the Peak runs so you might see me and either of the two vehicles at some point this year. Cheers ... and I'll let you know if I need another driver for the 911 🤣

  17. Welcome, and good luck with the search. They’re a rare beast, that’s for sure. My impression was, that even on the cars with the Spridget and Triumph based suspensions, quite a few were build with Crossflows, rather than BL derived engines.

  18. Popped out again this morning to a classic/yank tank meet in Polesworth (I went to school there so was surprised they let me back in! 😂) with Burton Car Club. Thankfully Dale came along so I wasn't the only Westfield in the village 👍 A stunning little Ginetta with a BMW K1200 bike engine was the star of the show for me!

  19. Best ride of the year so far! 😆 Great start to 2022. Done a tank of fuel, had a breaky and been all over the south east of Kent in the Sun ☀️

  20. I don't think anyone choses to do wet trackdays.. they just happen. 😉 I've enjoyed very wet days in the past .. notably the wscc Cottesmore day where I don't think it stopped raining all day! Equally that Cadwell day a couple of years back, .. the circuit was pretty lethal in the morning.. but I survived it .. and afterwards thought it enjoyable. But given the choice, I'd rather not be paddling around in puddles with soggy socks and wet undercrackers all day. Give me sunshine.
