  1. Left a sunny Chesterfield, drove through wet fog but the inbetweeny bit was good, thank fully. We met at Ashbourne. Trevor fed us with his luscious homemade doughnuts, thanks Trevor, they were yummy. Unfortunately the cafe was temporarily closed at the Marks and Spencer Foodhall, luckily the toilets remained open. We set off but we were now early for the first time ever and in need of a brew. I knew that my local Lido were having a coffee and cake event so we popped in there, much to their delight. Swimming pool this way The life guards had as many clothes on as a Westfield driver, it is all outdoors, but we were warmed up with hot chocolate and cakes. All the cakes were homemade by the swimmers As nobody was keen on having a dip we decided to carry on with our journey. The pool is open to non-members too for £10 a swim, over 18's only, no chlorine or heaters, it is spring water warmed by the rocks 3000ft below. We had a drive through Matlock Bath, Chatsworth, Eyam and Bakewell giving a cheery wave to passers by. Our destination was Peak Rail where the train was just pulling out, as shown on Si's video, that meant we could get some lunch in peace and I could ask Hedley for a photo of his pants! HANDS OFF MY PUD great sense of humour Hedley, love it! We had chance to do a bit of panorama dancing while we waited for the train to arrive There are more Santa's here than there should be Soon the crowds arrived and the goodies were given out. Hedley gave selection boxes away, very generous and so lovely to see. Bagpuss could not behave himself and went to find a warm place to have a catnap Where do you think the cats gone Dave? The train went on it's merry way and it was time for us to go too Thanks to everyone who came, when you built/bought your cars you didn't bank on this kind of behaviour did you? I think it is safe to say that we all enjoyed it and everyone that saw us and waved back at us did too. Really it is all for the children and I can't go without saying that Si has a great wife and two wonderful children, thank you Kath for supporting us and bringing them along I hope you all enjoyed it. Maisie Jack Thank you everyone xxxxxxxx

  2. Well a cracking day out today, yes a bit “fresh” had to wear a jacket and wooly hat!! Lol, but the roof was unzipped all day!!! Just under 200 miles of fun , the roads were a tad wet n skity this morning, headed off over the Cabrach fuelled up at Lumsden then took a heap of lovely single track hill roads with some stunning views, to Aboyne , then picked up the pace a little along Strathdon to Braemar, Glenshee then on down to the tearoom at Nith . Here a log burner a cracking bowl of broth and a slab of cake, warmed me up. So back up and over Glenshee through Braemar and refuelled at a wee country roadside pump as the petrol station in Braemar is shut at weekends ( but meant to be getting a pay at the pump soon) Then it was up and over the Glenshiel road and to Corgarf then a hood blast up and over the lecht before home up Glen Rinnes . Poor Tommy was absolutely minging so now all washed down and put away and I’ve a hot coffee Sorry for the picture fest but it was a great day out

  3. Well it started wet and ended wet but the sun came out for a cracking run. Many thanks to @Julie Hall - Joint Peak District AOThe looks on everyone’s faces as we paraded through the peaks was well worth it. Both my kids had a great day out too. My camera has a leaky lens cover so most of the footage is no good but I did manage to catch the Peaky Polar Express as it set off.

  4. The loop around Bakewell (no sound because the YouTube copyright police moaned) and the arrival at the Peak railway. Longer version to follow Thanks for organising Julie.

  5. That’s one to recreate when he gets his own membership! He wants one with a booster though like @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary apparently. 🤦‍♂️

  7. Good drills, Gary! I trust that you are doing your mad Westie tours of the snowy Highlands in a kilt of finest plaid! And given the weather, we might excuse a mini hot water bottle in your sporran!

  9. Thanks everyone for letting me know if you are coming or not, I wondered if there was much interest for this rather strange event and your comments encourage me 👍 It is a little unfortunate that such an exciting F1 is on at the same time, but life is for the living and telly will get watched later, avidly. Ooo, here's to a great Santa Run with lots of daft laughs and let's hope all the kids enjoy it as much as we do🤩

  10. A finish behind the pace car was what should have happened. Boring, yes, but not the first time that has happened. LH had won that race and MV was not going to catch him. The choice was to let ALL the lapped cars pass or none, not just a few to fabricate a result. The rule is quite clear. Those cars are also supposed to rejoin the back before the pace car is called in. Masi decided that result. Yes, RB made a great call (they had nothing to lose) and MB made the only one they could have, but ultimately, the result was massaged by the race director (not the stewards), and not the first time this season either. I don’t see the MB appeal getting anywhere frankly, but I think Masi has blotted his copybook once too often now.

  12. hi jeff, i have just read your post over on the stuff thread and thought it best to add a response here as it does contain mental health implications . sorry to read about the surgery, that in itself is stressful, but at least now you know what it was. your comment regarding feeling helpless touched me quite a lot as i too have internal issues that render me unable to walk or bend, it was diagnosed as sciatica many years ago and despite all the mri scans and the like they were unwilling to operate due to possible complications afterwards, i too was sent away with powerful morphine based pain killers , which in my case i did have to use. i did a silly thing a few weeks back and carried my dog up and down the stairs for two days as he has failing joints that prevent him climbing the stairs sometimes, the following days he got better however i didn't and left me in bed unable to walk myself - and living alone just makes the whole thing worse. add to that my eczema which is just not going away this time and is the reason why this and all my posts of late have no upper case letters - i just can't use two hands properly to work the keyboard, it is not until you lose the ability of your hands that you discover how much you can't do without them, as you mention simple everyday things like trying to do a shoe lace or opening a food stuff container etc etc. i also have external stress from family members, an old uncle who isn't expected to make christmas from my last chat with the care home, he fell over at the home , broke two ribs and his collar bone, went into hosp as he then got pneumonia - managed to catch covid whilst he was in there too add to the misery. he is back in the care home now as the hosp could do nothing more for him. i often think why do i carry on like this when it's so easy to end it relatively easily, but then i think just how far i have come in the mental recovery so far over so many years and all that work would be wasted should i do something silly again, so i just take one day at a time , if i can't walk, type or drive then so be it, i know i will get a little better perhaps tomorrow and that carries me through, so thats all i can do really. this time of year indeed is the worst for me on many levels, a reminder of losing parents a few weeks before christmas many years ago for instance, then there are the long dark days and nights with the winter weather , but once again i just think of spring and sunny times of summer tending the garden and with a bit of luck some sunny driving in our cars. i wish you a speedy recovery jeff, and at least we have this thread to vent our thoughts , even if no one reads them just the fact of seeing the words on the screen helps me deal with stuff. all the best richard.

  14. My take on this. Max on the soft tyre's should have blasted away off the line and led at least the first 10 laps, but he didn't. At turn 5 (?) Lewis was taking a normal racing line and Max left his braking so late and stuck his nose up the inside that Lewis had to go off track to avoid a collision and kept his position, did he give enough back? maybe, maybe not. Then Lewis put in fastest lap after fastest lap and pulled away from Max, even though Max had faster tyre's. Then Perez got involved and helped Max close within 2 seconds of Lewis, but again Lewis pulled away, the race was in Lewis's bag and there was nothing Max or Red Bull could do about. Lewis was going to be champion. Then Latifi and the stewards got involved................. What a ridiculous finish to a multi million pound high tech sport

  15. Yep. Pretty sraight forward win for Max eh. 😀 Horrible end to the championship.. I think the race director made a cockup 😞

  16. well for a sane mind it's all you can do, had all this happened 10 years or so ago then things would have been different. for now at least the constant taking of ibuprofen keeps my back pain away and the somewhat useless creams i get for my skin do at least allow me to have one working hand, the other semi working. i can still drive though, the bad hand being the gear change which i can manage just about. at the end of the day it's about looking foward at better days to come , i know they will - it's just a case of waiting. wishing all folks who suffer at this time of year the very best by the way.

  17. I know I will recover and mentally okay. When you are used to doing everything being bathed and not carrying anything is hard to accept. It is like the first time I was offered a seat on a train by a young guy the gesture was fine but he obviously thought I was old, it hurt my pride to be looked upon as weaker than he was. I am lucky in many ways and can only imagine how you feel and glad to see you are thinking the right way. Keep on doing what you are jeff

  19. he could, one of the youtube suggestions was an hour long concert he did a few years ago, it was full of covers - queen, def leppard, huey lewis and the news to name a few, there wasn't a duff track among them, sad loss indeed. eta took a while to find it again but this is the one i watched earier on.

  20. I've got a Minno Max in Oswestry you are welcome to borrow. I work in Shrewsbury so could probably work out to meet in Shrewsbury somewhere save you coming to Oswestry to collect👍 I'll have a look at my shifts and let you know

  21. I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Howard Gaskin and Mick Dent to the SSOT. I am sure they will bring new ideas and also help with the increasing workload. Please chat to them in the paddock if you have any ideas or concerns about the Speed Series

  22. Thread resurrection.....................with good news. After 5 years and against all the odds, it's back home! Got to thank pete g again for talking me into posting a lost/stolen ad on a couple of sites. One of which has sat there all this time and finally paid dividends!
