  10. I had an original Tamiya Sandscorcher which I used to race against my friends' cars (in our back gardens). They had a Rough Rider and a Holiday Buggy. (My radio was a 3 channel Sanwa). We had excellent fun and tried to get extra speed out of them by upgrading to ball racers to replace the standard bushes. Upgrades took a while given that they were financed with paper round money! We used to fast charge the NiCds to death in 20 mins with a large resistor and car battery - things often got quite hot but being without a charged battery was not an option when there were trees to crash into! I bought my son a ready to run BDH electric buggy which is fun and indestructible (with a pistol grip controller that I cannot get the hang of). Not long ago I bought a 30+ year old Mardave Marauder (nitro car) in bits. We rebuilt it and regularly run it in the park. It's rear wheel drive, has no differential and is completely manic to drive - very difficult to keep from donutting on wet ground. We use an old 35MHz aeroplane radio to control it. This is an old school radio with sticks (i.e. not pistol grip) so I'm used to it (as is my son now!).

  13. Yes it's a funny old world isn't it. People often ask me about it, even after all this time. I've had a chance to have a good look around it now and it's fair to say that it's just been neglected rather than abused. It's been stored outside at some stage so there's some evidence of water damage but as long as I can get a new homolgation sticker for the cage and repair the cracked bonnet it should just need some elbow grease rather than £s. I haven't tried to start it yet so that could be a game changer but initial indications are good. Thanks for all the good wishes everyone.

  15. Good to meet you at last Daniel. Yes, a good time was had by all. Sorry not to see some of the usual suspects @Si.Dalziel & @Wilfman to name a couple (note from the editor- are they really a couple? 😉 ) No pics of the event, as it would only confirm or deny rumours that @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary eats Nan bread the size of duvets 😉 I'm was humbled and delighted to receive a gift from my good Peak District tail runners, tail @BillyPee I'm also impressed I remember to take it home! you need to dine with me in the Peaks to find out how I deserve such an award! I'm now promoting @BillyPee to be my lifestyle consultant on my journey to be more Billy! Thanks and congratulations to @6carjon on joining us on such a momentous occasion in his life! Many thanks for the arrangements as usual, @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary. We appreciate this year's been trickier than most to arrange, due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic etc.
