Good morning all. My name is Ben, I'm completely new to the forum and to the ownership of a westfield although I've been patiently waiting for a while for the right toy to pop up. Well here she is! I've got a couple of little jobs to do before MOT time, then a few things I'd like to do like new bucket seats and I'd really like a full cage. Looking forward to playing 👍2 points

Boris Johnson answered a question in the H of Cs this afternoon on Westfield pods. Unfortunately he didn't know what they were but thought they were a good idea none-the-less! A good opportunity for a factory visit and photo opp for him...! We may pop up. Currently have the carpets out of the car ready to replace, but could always come showing some metal. Watching the weather for now.1 point

Ok, Mr Zetec actually needed a different size and format for his track Westie, so both are still available. The thought hadn't crossed my mind, but I've got one of those tiny cams too @Boftus, so I'll give that a go! May not be until Friday, but you've got 1st refusal for now 👍1 point

I might meet at Bird's cafe, Hathersage then, save you a longer trip and @AndrewBClarke comes past our house anyway. I am just waiting on the weather forecast Thursday evening before finalising everything, although it's looking good.1 point

This is the sort of thing you ideally need for SMD work... https://www.amazon.co.uk/YORKING-Desoldering-Station-Welding-Nozzles/dp/B08BNBHHW4/ref=pd_lpo_1?pd_rd_i=B08BNBHHW4&psc=1 (Just a very cheap and probably crap example of the breed)1 point

Hi Quinten Westfield were very quick replying to my emails. that is the silencer and link pipes only. manifolds were separate. it seems they may have silencers that fit as they are fairly standardised, you just need to know manifold connecting tube diameter (2" or 2.5" diameter) then you need to buy left and right hand sides. Manifolds they do not have, nor do they have jigs or fixtures. the advice is to have a local exhaust builder copy the existing manifold design in stainless. anyway, thanks for your info, much appreciated, and please let me know if they do not work for Mr Zetec1 point

Thanks for that, I have sent them an email, see what they can still do? 👍 Please let me know if the other guy doesn't take one of the silencers, and if they are none CAT. cheers Jason1 point

I've got no history on the manifolds either, but they look to be stainless. Actually, I went back to my paperwork, and found an invoice from Westfield Stock Id: 1710011 Description: Exhaust SEiGHT-Side-S.Steel List Price: £645.80 I don't know what that includes, but it may be a good starting point?1 point

just as gary said, we all had to learn what to do over time. i think the most applicable thing to say is , do not think that any question is stupid, too basic etc. there are only stupid answers, never stupid questions. me for instance, started on push bikes as a kid, moving on to motorbikes, then eventually cars, taking all to bits and on many occasion having to get the bus to work because i could not get the repair to work. just have a go, and ask questions......1 point

I think there's definitely something to that. I just about fell into the age group where cars had big plastic covers on the engines and a message to stay away . Thanks for all the great advice, I'll be sure to check out my local area group!1 point

There’s probably a good balance of owners who have bought a westy rather than built one, and there’s nothing wrong with either approach. I’m, along with others of a certain age, fortunate to have grown up at a time when you could easily mess with, service, repair and modify cars. Also it was almost a right that your father educated and encouraged the aforesaid misdemeanours lol, nowadays modern cars don’t lend themselves to enthusiastic tinkering. I would encourage you to find your local area group and I can bet there will be someone there only to ready to guide you through the simple tasks, you may even find someone local building one that needs an extra pair of hands. meantime start out with smaller jobs like routine servicing and don’t be afraid to stop and fire a question on here. We have all had to learn at one time or another so are only to happy to help if needed. If dismantling anything take pictures as you go this will give you a photo guide to re assembly. As you build confidence it opens up another source of enjoyment and satisfaction . All the best and enjoy the journey.1 point

I am delighted to hear that long time club member Ash Mason has won the Midland Hillclimb Championship this weekend at the last event of the season at Loton Park today. Ash drives a super charged Hayabusa Westfield in the modified specialist production car class and has set numerous class records this season to achieve the overall win. Well done Ash!!!1 point

Westy seems to be falling apart a bit more each time I go near it even though I refuse to sorn it this year. All that being said I’m working anyway 🤦♂️0 points

I don't have anything to ship them in I'm afraid. Plus they weigh a fair bit. And then there is probably a Brexit tax on top of it to ship to the EU.0 points
