Let's hope so, however it's much to early for Julie to believe the 'cake' forecast yet....2 points

the Zetec 1.8 would not have been tested in isolation, a vehicle (well lots of different vehicles) with zetec 1.8 would have been tested and all with varying results. Take an engine I'm familiar with (as I've had a few cars with it) the BMW 2.0 L TD, that engine appears in lots of cars in various states of tune, eg at one time just in the one series it was in the 116d, 118d, 120d and 123d not to mention it was also in 2 series, 3 series, 4 series .... and also in a number of different Mini's and each and every one will have different emissions/CO2 results. The emissions used for VED calculations don't relate to an engine they relate to car. If I were to but a crate BMW engine into a kit car, which model would I have to pick for the emissions. the 116d or the X5 2L D.2 points

it wouldn’t, and nor would any other engine as a individual component. type approval testing looks at the emissions of the car-assembly as a whole and are expressed as the grams of CO2 emitted per km from that car. different factors such as the weight of the car and the type of tyres fitted will all have a bearing on this figure, as such two different cars from the same manufacturer and fitted with the same engine would have different g/CO2/Km and would therefore be taxed differently. the system is far from unfair, quite the opposite in-fact as it gives amateur builders the chance to build a car and get it tested and on the road for a reasonable cost. The alternative to this is type approval which costs a manufacturer many thousands to test just a single car and that approval is then only valid for identical examples that are built thereafter. The benefit for them may be lower VED but this does not offer the flexibility that we are given with the IVA process as amateurs to build our cars uniquely. In the U.K. we are incredibly fortunate to have IVA, not all European countries have such as system and therefore registration of kit cars or any home builds is virtually impossible for them.2 points

If you mean the 1.8 had been tested in the original car and might be lower then yes, I suppose that’s true. But think of it the other way round, you could put a cylinder head, cams, throttle bodies, the works on there, and it doesn’t affect the tax at all… Still seem unfair? You could add a turbo, or a super charger, still same tax! Still seem unfair! In fact you could put a six litre V8 in if you desired, and guess what, no difference in tax! Still unfair?… Just a different way of looking at it.2 points

Update on Chris, he has prostate cancer and kidney problems. But he's doing ok, hoping to be discharged from hospital and looking forward to being home next week. Still has all his faculties, and his dry sense of humour. He's writing his next article for Westfield World from his hospital bed, can't wait to read that. John.2 points

Without wanting to sound like a cliche, i never thought i would be writing this. I have owned this car for 17 years, and very much enjoyed everything about it, including this club! But, i find myself using it less and less. I have always fancied a V8 and miss our Defender, so have decided to buy or build a V8 Land Rover. This means the Westfield has to go, as apparently, i cannot have 2 toys! Current mileage is 20,870. It usually does about 800 dry miles a year. It lives in a carpeted garage and comes with two enormous history files and all previous mot certificates in my ownership. Engine/Gearbox 125 BHP Crossflow Twin 40s K&N filters Motad repackable silencer 4 into 1 Westfield manifold Power Vamp lightweight battery Valvoline 20w50 changed every spring Water pump and all coolant hoses replaced last summer Type 9 5 speed box. Brakes, wheels and tyres 4 pot calipers with drilled discs RS 2000 rear drums, always been fine as car is so light. Minilight style wheels with Yoke 185/60 x 13 tyres Suspension Protech adjustable shocks all round. Sorry, cannot remember the spring rates, they are whatever Protech Recommend. Corner weighted for a 75KG driver at Track Developments Body Very good considering it is nearly 30 years old! Some minor crazing around the wing mounts. There is a scratch on the offside wing. Nobody knows how it got there!!! When i bought it, i did not like the swept wings. So i bought a set of Tiger cycle wing brackets, light mounts and cycle wings. But i grew to like the traditional look, so have never fitted them. They will come with the car if the new owner would like them. I recommend keeping the traditional look, as they are few and far between now. Tillet style seats, which are surprisingly comfortable. I love the aeroscreen. There is much less buffeting than with a screen. However, if the new owner prefers a screen, the car will come with screen, fillet, wipers and doors. I also have the original alloy dash and carpets. Also welcome to have the fleece indoor fitted car cover. So there you have it. A good honest, genuine Westfield, which has spent its last 17 years being pampered by me. Mot'd a couple of weeks ago. Bad points? Well, the tyres, although having loads of tread, could do with being replaced due to age. They do not seem to be hard, but are a few years old now. I am asking £6,250 and will be genuinely sad to see it go. I have lots of spares/bits and pieces collected over the years that will come with the car if wanted. Also spare wheel and carrier. Cheers, James.1 point

Hi Westies, my name is Peter, I'm 46 years young, living in western Austria (near lake constance) and proud owner of a Westfield 7 SE. Unfortunately the live axis of my beauty tried to pass me on my last ride end of august... hm... okay, it didn't just "try"... there was a traffic sign (with accent on "was")... therefor silencer and frame have a lightly different design now (but the traffic sign also! :D). My first thoughts were like "oh no %!$§/!§$" (you can feel me? ^^) but because I'm a lucky boy the damages are not that bad and seem to be repairable without to much efforts. Now I will search the forum for the right chapters to place my questions. Maybe I will find the answers for my questions before, than I won't create a new topic. I hope you'll welcome me and I hope you are familiar with "stupid newbie questions". 🙂1 point

Welcome, Peter. I can't help you with the questions about repairing your SE, but I'm sure that others can and will. It will help those who can answer your questions to know how old the car is, and whether it is a wide body or a narrow body.1 point

That won’t be until the evening after the AGM. He’ll have to buy me one at lunchtime. Maybe two.1 point

@Curley well that is a disastrous start to your outings with us, it has rained all day today and sharp showers are forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully we can catch up with you the next weekend that you are available. We made it to Quackers today and virtually had the place to ourselves, unsurprisingly, to stop the cake going out of date we helped them eat it. I have to tell you this, we spoke for a good while to the owner of the cafe and she told us about her husband's accident, at one point she said 'when he had his head replaced' it's a funny story, if a sad one, that I will tell you all when we next see you. Today I have been handling logistics for @Chris Broster - Bristol & Bath AO great to meet you in the flesh. Also been working on the throttle inlet design for @Steve (sdh2903). Nearly sorted mate.1 point

@Chris Smith My two boys Tom, Leo and my Dad spent the whole of last year building the Westfield that now takes pride of place in the workshop and without your initial vision and legacy we might never have done so. The boys now have a greater depth of mechanics and my Dad and I are closer than ever. Thank you1 point
