  1. Having left a sunny Chesterfield we arrived at The Bull in drizzle. Billy was offering a warm, dry seat to the highest bidder! So it was inside for breakfast First stop was Longstone Edge for a photo shoot. We lost the drizzle by the time we neared Bakewell, I took the correct right turn this time and avoided the town centre! It was dry for the rest of the day, yippee. The views as you travel along up there are wide and wonderful with all the hills in their summer coat and a mixture of shade and sun highlighting them beautifully. Next we took the back roads into Castleton. Then we did a run up the Winnats Pass, of which is never going to be clear on a Sunday in August. Still, the views are stunning and more so when you drop down Mam Nick. Mam Nick looking backwards, but forwards you get views over Kinder Scout. We arrived at the Rambler Inn just in time for a pie and a pint Poor Andrew, Glen shifted Andrew's coke and put his pint there just in time for the click of the camera, naughty Parked at the Rambler Inn Sat on the heated decking area, oh the luxury. We seem to be short of cake on this outing, so that problem was soon fixed by a trip to Massarella's in Rowsley. Parked in Rowsley Now we can't have a meet without a bonnet coming off can we. This is Glynn's Mazda engine without a supercharger😉 To finish off the kind and lovely Becky leaves us with a gingerbread biscuit (we have recently been to Grasmere in the Lake District which is famous for it's gingerbread) and they are dressed in their swimsuits, which is a hot topic at the moment. Now swimsuits are like sports cars, one is not enough, so a girl is allowed to buy two. When another box of swimwear arrived last week at the pool Glen offered the lifeguard £20 to hide it from me, he said it is cheaper that way 😄 It's been a fun day, even though Andrew deprived me of black pudding, I will forgive him eventually, thanks for coming everyone. The driving and the roads have been great, hope to see you all again next time xxx

  2. Well what a day ! Left home in the rain 🙄 but it got brighter on the way up to the Peaks and when we got to the Bull there were other silly people there as well 🤔 then the funny talk started !!! Just ask about O’s . When breakfast was finished ( to add - some ate well others had lighter options! No black pudding was consumed 🤐) we ventured out in search of them nice roads, decision time roof or no roof? on top of somewhere ! Bigfoot spotting Down into the valleys , them clouds look grim ? then back up to the top make sure you don’t loose the person following find the nice wide roads the sleepy villages and the lovely cakes 😉 , notice no people in the photo ! 4 cakes and 6 people , in the conversation over the cake and coffee it was mentioned some people have put weight on !! Thanks for a great day out @Julie Hall - Joint Peak District AO,and we even stayed dry all the way home, stay safe till next time luv Andy & Becky

  6. @CraigHew I am very sorry to hear of your accident and very glad to hear that you are ok. You clearly enjoyed your car and regularly used it, plus it was a joy to see all the lovely photo's that you shared with us. You will leave quite a hole on this forum that perhaps you never realised as someone clicking a 'like' doesn't get that message across. I wish you well in scratching your itch (in private of course) but I am sure the thrill of driving a Westfield will bring you back and if not, how can you leave the kind of banter behind that precedes my message, it's classic!😄 I must leave now as I need to devise a competition that gives the prize of free membership to anyone that has written their Westfield off recently. All the best, Lots of love from Glen and Julie xxxxxxxxxx

  7. Get yourself a credit card that doesn't charge commission on foreign exchange. Halifax Clarity Mastercard is a good one gives you market exchange rate. And cheaper to get cash out of an ATM on it than on a standard debit card

  9. Probably be a lot lower if you stopped the chronic masterbation...😳

  11. Don't know. I have always been out at night or early AM whenever I'm away. Makes me glad I chose some high quality Bosch bulbs for the headlights 'cos they really do make a difference. Not as much as LED's of course but still better than a run-of-the-mill 55w H2/H7 or whatever. That said I've been in some epic rain storms as well where having good headlights is just as important.

  12. Been to Le Mans a LOT in the Westfield and have spent many years driving abroad for work... For France and many other countries you'll need a spare bulb kit. Get them from Halfords. If you plan to use the peage (toll roads) then for France you'll need a hi-vis vest for each person in the vehicle. I stay off the peage in the Westfield. Peage toll booths take UK Visa cards no problem and a LOT of them are unmanned so if you don't speak the lingo a smart phone with translation capability like Google Lens is a real boon when presented with instructions that aren't translated in to English which almost none of them are. Same goes for all the countries I have visited... I keep a handful of spanners, a couple of adjustables, a couple of screwdrivers (stanard and dumpy with interchangeable tips) , mole grips, cable ties and a puncture repair kit (Crafty Plugger) with CO2 cannisters. And of course breakdown cover that includes repatriation for both me AND the vehicle. Not always cheap... The car will need GB stickers and you'll need to attend to headlight aim. For money, my Visa debit has always worked fine in France, Monaco, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy, Sardinia Malta Spain and it's islands as well as Greece and Cyprus and associated islands. BUT Holland for some reason prefer Mastercard and many places refuse to take Visa. For per diem when working we use the Revolut card / app and that might be worth looking in to for a second account if needed. (Edit. Steve beat me to it) I tell the insurance company and the bank the travel dates and if your cell phone provider is charging for roaming by then, think about buying a PAYG card when you're in country. But do the maths on that as with the prevalence of free wifi one may not need anything more than WhatsApp to make calls and send messages. There's almost always somewhere nearby with free wifi. It's charging the phone that presents the biggest issue so install a USB charger in the car or buy a solar rechargeable power bank Keep your passport, driving license and insurance documents on you when in or near the car and for my own peace of mind I have photographic/scanned or the email copies of all of that including any return tickets, breakdown cover docs and vaccination card from the doctor which I had from when I went to some very emerging nation countries, all stored in my Google Drive just in case. I'm betting you'll need a vaccine passport as well. They're going to be a thing for a few years and are not new for Covid, despite what many think...

  13. Target practice? To the memebrs of the CIA who may be reading this, we Brits call this humor (sic) and is not in any way a threat to 45.. Ironically the same number as the caibre of weapon that one might use for such activity...

  20. The good news is the chassis is back again after close to 25 hours of welding we’re fairly confident that every last hole and crack has been filled and welded. there were a few surprises along the way. This small tube was one of the worst by far for rust and in the end the only one that was cut out and replaced. But what surprised us most was what we found inside it once removed. Yes someone has tried to hide all the holes with body filler ! I need to phone the powdercoaters to see how busy they are but I’m hoping to get it into paint sometime in the next couple of weeks.

  21. Just a quick post to say goodbye to fellow WSCC members... My pride and joy was written off a couple of weeks ago by a momentary lack in concentration resulting in my first accident is 43 years of driving. Markerstudy were superb in handling my claim and I was extremely happy (well: as happy as I could be within the circumstances) with the result. I've decided to step back from ownership for a few months to see how I feel. The temptation was to dive straight back in and buy another car - there were a couple worthy of a look - but there are a few other itches I'd like to scratch while I can. It's quite sobering to admit that the road ahead is much shorter than the one behind, but that's life for all of us, I'm certainly not complaining. So, I'm going to let my membership lapse in a few days time. Thanks for a wonderful seven years, the community here and camaraderie within the wider club will leave a big hole. I've enjoyed the banter on the forums and appreciated the technical help & support in times of need. I'll leave with the first and last photo's I took of my car, with >20,000 glorious miles, smiles and memories in between them. Drive safe, Craig.

  22. Get yourself a revolut card. I've travelled all over the world with work and they are great as don't charge transaction fees. They only charge to withdraw cash if you go over a certain amount. You just top it up from your debit card or bank account as you go. You get an instant notification of how much you've spent and the conversion rate. They also usually give a better exchange rate. I even have one for my 10 year old daughter for her pocket money. https://www.revolut.com/cards

  25. I took 2 bank cards and I was pleased I did as for some reason the cards where not accepted everywhere. The main card I used had no fees. I took euros in cash as emergency use and other than having breakdown cover then I didn't do anything special other than checking the various laws about what I had to carry in the car and speed limits etc.

  29. Well that's that for another 12 months, great race ( although I fell asleep at 2am !!) the last hour was great with the deluge of rain, with the last 20 mins being some of the best wet weather racing I have seen for years. Hope all injured get back on track soon.

  33. Also in a less than happy situation, can I say thanks to all marshals at UK events you put your lives at risk for what is after all 'entertainment', I used to do the same at events like the RAC rally and local ones. A marshal died yesterday at Brands following a car leaving the circuit. Thoughts go to friends and family.

  42. Just me and my nephew today for the parade lap, but we did it properly and stopped in pole position to spin our wheels and lay a teeny bit of rubber on the track. The Silverstone Classic is a great day out, there’s loads to see and do, and watching the wheel to wheel racing of such special historic cars is fabulous. As usual the mini racing was epic. We walked around the paddock and garages, listening to the racket of thunderous engines and smelling the half burnt fuel. bl**** marvelous! A good friend of mine is very fortunate to have an e-type racing tomorrow, no 221 in the e-type challenge. Has qualified on 3rd position on the grid so I plan on watching online and cheering it on. His car came first - some superb driving by Ben Mitchell in a very wet race!
