After 11 years off the road and at least 3 years of restoration, my 30 year old is back on the road having passed its MOT this morning. Cosmetic bits to finish on the interior, suspension set up etc but it moves! Thanks to all the tips and guidance from this forum and members which has been invaluable.3 points

If you badly dangler it up you can always use scotchbrite pad and make the entire thing “brushed steel” (which looks better anyway IMO!)2 points

Yeah I always think of “sandpaper” in terms of the really coarse abrasive stuff that will leave deep scratches - and “wet n dry” as the stuff used to finely abrade things 😁👍2 points

Another red letter day out, John popped over-at 9.30ish and we headed south down glenrinnes then up and over the lecht to Glenshee where we had a wee break chatting to some other petrol heads, then pushing on southwards we then cut west out over the moors to Pitlochry for fuel and a nature break onwards to Rannoch station ( a pet hate is wild campers who leave their cars half out on a single track road and there were quite a few !! ) arriving at Rannoch station we discovered there was an hour wait to be seated , so after a quick discussion we backtracked to Kinloch Rannoch and a lovely wee cafe. Suitably refreshed we cut out over Trinafour moor and then pushed up the main road for a bit before cutting off up speyside and homewards, arriving home a little windswept and sunburnt but very happy after a full day out1 point

Fair enough! 😄 I reckon if you needed to go that course on a silencer, you've probably already totalled the can, you're right!1 point

In ‘sand’ I was talking taking some 40/60 or 80 ‘high abrasive’ type grit to it. I consider wet and dry more of a ‘flat’ but then that’s the environment I learned my trade in many years ago. 😁1 point

You mean the upper front wishbone ? as the lower part of the chasis seems straight , and the upper bent ? On the other hand I am surprised that lower rallydesing(?) wishbones despite age (rust) are still straight! I have recently installed new fresh ones (RD) , and after one trackday one is starting to bend a little (now maybe 1-2mm on full length but with previous was the same) . Anyway - good luck with repairing !1 point

Completely fixable, unlike the jacket! Being careful of the fumes, melting synthetics can be nasty, with a bit of heat ans a softish plastic scraper, you can probably get more off. Then it’s just a case of how far back with abrasives you need to go. I’d try with just a polish first though, and if that doesn’t do it, relative fine grade wet and dry first, and if that doesn’t fix it, go a step courser. once you’ve got it off, come back up through the grades to fine, then machine polish with a proper polishing wheel and polishes for stainless.1 point

I promised an update regarding the weather, I don't think you need me to tell you all that the weather is set fair and this is definitely on. As Andrew said above meet at Fairways, Ashbourne, DE6 2GN at 10am Sunday. Can some of you put this postcode into your satnavs as our first gathering point as I can't promise to keep us all together through Ashbourne village. Linger around the entrance to the Tissington Trail car park, Mappleton Road, DE6 1FD, it's a long straight empty country road, please don't turn into the car park. Looking forward to seeing you all.1 point

There is a falcon 9 rocket launch today that passes over UK a few minutes later at 21:55 On Thursday 25th June 2020 we are in for a treat. We can watch a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch a new batch of 60 Starlink satellites live from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Around 15 minutes later, the very same rocket and its payload of 60 Starlink satellites should be quite visible as it passes over the UK after launch. What Time? The Starlink launch is expected at 21:39 BST (UK Time). This may change so stay up to date on launch timings with @VirtualAstro on twitter and Facebook. The final stage of the rocket and its cargo of satellites should be visible approximately 10 – 15 minutes after launch. So, start looking at 21:55 if the launch goes to plan. Give yourself a few minutes leeway either side. Please note: Northern areas of the UK may not be able to see the spacecraft immediately after launch due to sunset times, especially in Scotland. However, you should be able to see the satellites on consecutive passes. Follow @VirtualAstro on twitter and Facebook for info. https://www.meteorwatch.org/1 point

Only just saw this thread and noticed it's going over again tonight so going to try and catch it. Not seen it in years actually. From where I am near Chester it will be going over at 10:55pm (Duration 6 min | Max height 45° | Appear 10° above W | Disappear 16° above SE).1 point
