  1. Just had a great weekend Up North. Two nights in the Twice Brewed Inn, over 500 miles, really good. Seven cars started and seven cars returned. Jeff the Joiner organised everything, from the accommodation, which was perfect, to the roads, which were also perfect, although maybe a bit bumpy in places. Already booked for next year.

  3. First long run for a while, and a good one. 8 cars started out heading through Selby, Holme on Spalding Moor, where we picked up another, Market Weigton and Beverley, passing the race course and then on to the coast. Arriving at 6pm was good and bad. Free parking and toilets closed. More loos found a short walk away with a fish shop close by. Sitting in the sun with a bit of banter going on. After an hour, we set off for home, trying to take the same route, but something went wrong and we ended up on the one road we were trying to avoid, the M62. It was quicker though .

  10. I've been discussing Sim Racing with a colleague and my brother and I think I'm ready to have a go, which means buying some gear. I have a budget, a spare room and what I hope is an idea about requirements (yes I did a search...) and I'd appreciate some thoughts. Games will be Assetto Corsa and Project Cars 2 (I think) to start with. I have had a look at the system requirements and I reckon I can build a PC with more than enough horsepower for about 500 quid. Screen will be around 50/55 inches and 4K, either a Samsung or LG. Nice second hand leather Chesterfield for when it's not my turn and a beer fridge. That's the easy stuff.... Rig - a GT RS6 with the free standing monitor mount so we can expand to three screens if we feel the need(!). We'll source our own seat... Wheel motor - SimCube 2 Sport if we can't wait for the new Fanatec CS Wheel - probably an OMP, nothng fancy, no need for buttons yet. I'm sure that will change 'cos we'll want paddles at some point. yes we'll need an adapter for the wheel motor. Pedals - Heuskinveld Sprint Shifter - Fanatec Clubsport Occuclus Rift 2 or an S. Not sure on this one yet but I definitely want to try the VR experience. So, does this look like a senseible starting point? Have I missed anything? Tin hat on...

  11. Very positive vaccine news from the New Scientist magazine. Do read the whole article. It seems faith in the vaccines is well justified and is on the way to being unequivocally proven as a very effective device indeed.

  17. It seems to me that you have to balance his times between happy and sad and when the balance is towards the sad, the time has come. Nothing anyone can say will make this easy. It will be really tough for you.

  19. Many (many) years ago, I fitted a lair of DHLA 40s to my old Fiat 124 AC Coupe. The AC bit is important, because on that model, the bonnet dived down, so I had to cut a hole to clear the front carb. OK, I thought, need a bonnet bulge. Well known in the day was Fibresports, purveyors of all things plastic for the tuning and custom market , and as I lived just down the road, convenient too. So, toddled over to buy a bonnet bulge. They had plentyโ€ฆ.but they were all 100% cosmetic, so I had to cut out the inner skin of the thing so it actually increased the space under the bonnet rather than just adding a carbuncle to it. They seemed genuinely surprised that I actually needed it to be functional. eta. Well Iโ€™ll be jiggered, Fibresports are actually still going, and in the same place too I think! Wow, that was over 40 years ago.

  30. its funny because i find myself today saying the same as my mother did to me back then, what are you listening to that rubbish for, here have a listen to this... i do not seek out modern music, it sadly comes free of charge through my walls - kids next door... and its all mainly very high speed bass drums and lots of shouting which sounds quite appalling to me , but thats just what my mum said to me about the human league...

  32. well, at long last i finally got my call up to go. it is now 24 hours since i had it, and other than a sore arm last night i am fine, none of the side effects as reported, so far anyway... my 2nd jab is in 8 weeks time, unless boris reduces the wait to 4 weeks. i can not tell you how happy i was to have it and i am still smiling today. richard.

  33. Space for one more ? I'm doing the same as Gary, making my way over today and staying at the Muthu Ben Doran tonight then heading back after the run on Saturday. Gary, if you're in the next room we could mutually agree to keep the snoring down to a reasonable level! See you all at breakfast at the cafe Saturday morning, if not before somewhere. Cheers, Les
