  3. Not the costal view I wanted but the coast road was blocked halfway so this had to do. The Westfield proving more than adequate at transporting my paragliding gear 🤪

  7. Back in the mists of time while at Uni I bought a “new” mk3 cavalier ex taxi 260k miles, to replace the MK2 rust bucket. I needed to get it from Preston to South Wales and hired a trailer for a day so needed to get back to preston, also wanted to get a few hours at TokyoJoes.. The trailer empty towed so we’ll and I knew the roads though mid Wales so we’ll, I was flying. I’d spotted a car quite a bit of a distance behind which disappeared, As I slowed down entering a 30 zone it caught me and the blue lights came on… Apparently there Meistro 2.0 diesel was struggling to keep up and they where doing over 90 in places… But fair play I got a ticking off, got sent on my way. End of shift and no actual evidence I guess.

  8. Good Afternoon, everybody. Subject to a favourable outcome of the Government announcement on 21st June and after what seems to be forever, I am happy to invite you all to the next Westfield Sports Car Club monthly meeting at 7.30pm on Wednesday 30th June. Lue Howard, one of our members, has very kindly agreed to host a barbecue at his house just to the north of Kidlington. There is plenty of parking for Westfields (and other cars) and plenty of space for us to socially distance as much as each individual would like. There are covered spaces if the weather deteriorates from the current fine spell. As well as Westfield and other chat, we will be having a barbecue so could I, please, ask you to reply to this message by Sunday 27th June to advise of your attendance (partners / significant others are welcome) so we can order a suitable amount of food. I will then reply with location details, rather than circulate them widely over the internet. Bring your own preferred drinks. I do hope that you are able to join us and start the journey back to the normality of enjoying our cars and pleasant, like minded company. Simon Marks WSCC North Oxfordshire Area Organiser E: A304SCA@aol.com M: (07973) 412530 Please note new telephone number since we were last allowed to meet,

  10. Many years ago, towing my previous Westfield up to the Aintree Sprint, early one Sunday morning, completely forgot there was a Westfield and trailer attached to the back of the old 535 Sport I had at the time. booted it to pass a really slow moving coach, (only moved over to lane two), but did wonder why the coach was flashing me, till I spotted the Westfield in the rear view mirror, and slowed off again.

  11. Years ago, I reported a RAC driver to his HQ for driving in the outside lane of the M5 while towing an empty trailer at nearly 90mph in the rain. The trailer tyres were bouncing 6-8 inches off the road and it was fishtailing - incredibly dangerous. I should have called the police and reported it, but getting a ticking off from the boss would probably be sufficient. I mentioned it in here afterwards and got criticised for reporting it, saying that he was probably rushing to a job, which I think is not a good excuse to justify putting other road users at danger unless you’re police / fire / ambulance - and not always then.

  13. second drivers are £20 payable on the day, he didnt say how so cash is probably prefreble just in case. regards the current covid pre briefing side of things, that will come out a week before and can get the second driver to complete as well along with the indemnity form. this is now looking like its going to be a cracking day with limited numbers of cars. 55 max i can feel some good westfield train pictures coming thanks SImon

  15. It is a personal choice on how you strap your car to the trailer But i would say strap each wheel individually To the trailer using four straps i strap the way shown in the attached picture I yourstand its not possible with every trailer design but I've towed many many many cars and find this the best way. The way you have shown if the rear strap fails for any reason and they do fail I've had it happen and you brake hard it wouldn't be the end of the world because your westfield would only possibly crash into your own towing vehicle but if the front strap was to fails and you car moves backward that could seriously endangering people following you and that could have a not so happy ending to the story

  16. Had my 2nd AZ jab on Monday morning. Woke up feeling very tired on Tuesday and declared a “no sharp tools” day. Felt fine today and promptly cocked up the first task of the day adjusting the legs on an old workbench - normal service has resumed.

  17. Cure's Robert Smith played with Siouxsie on tour when Banshees guitarist left and they were supporting Banshees on tour. It was highly influential on him and resulted in a change of musical direction for Cure's 2nd album.

  19. Great weekends sport at Pembrey. Used as a shakedown really as the car is freshly rebuilt . One thing that did stand out for me over the weekend was the number of cars in class 2b (Road going modified) who were illegal. No mots, no lights , no passenger seat and running tyres which were super soft. This wasn't policed all weekend which left a bitter taste in a few peoples mouths. Other than that nice to get out.

  22. It’s the speed limits that always catch me out, too easy to forget about the trailer on the back and let the speed creep up to 70.

  23. Perils of empty trailers on good tow cars! You can forget they're on the back, when on the motorway etc.

  25. It is surprising how many do not know that rule judging by how many camping trailers you see on the M5 in the outside lane on a Friday off to Cornwall. Not sure if there is an awareness course for that, but hopefully you will get no points

  26. Hi All!! Picked up my 1996 1800 Zetec Westie today, know the last owner who's had it for 21 years. I have the mechanical knowledge of a 3 year old so will be picking your brains!! Car needs an MOT, only done 70 miles since the last in 2019, good full service and cam belt which is booked in for next Monday. Can't wait to get it on the road. Changed the battery today, that was a bl**** nightmare having to take the nosecone off and very limited room to move. Still nice to make a start!!

  28. If I'm honest this is possibly the worst way I've ever seen somebody strap a westfield to a trailer !

  29. I use my roll cage to tie my westy down saved miss shaping warm tyres, handbrake on and I keep the car out of get as the rocking back and fore on the trailer shockes the gearbox

  30. Hi all Apart from being a customer I have no connection with Midwater Luggage but wanted to share some ideas of made to measure bags they have produced for me. Quality is good, the bags are not posh, but practical and well made, price is great for a made to measure service. https://www.midwater.co.uk/ I originally bought a bag to fit snugly in the boot. It is padded to give a little protection and fits great. Means you can pack the bag and know its all going to fit in the car! I was then looking at how best to store my doors, being limited for space hanging seemed the best option so I had another bag made, again padded for protection, The bag holds the doors side by side, plus there is a divider between them. Probably not the best design for transporting the doors, but it works well for storing them at home. Midwater specialise in making bags for fishing so the doors can be put away wet and the bag should wick the water away (not tried this yet). Whilst they were making the bag for the doors, I also got them to make a couple of bulkhead bags, to place behind the seats. Being made to measure they are the right size for where I have the seats. These ones aren't padded as I didn't think it was necessary. I'm not sure when i'll use these but if I ever take the car on holiday they would be great. The bags are similar to this one on ebay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180701876004 - but made to my measurements and for less than 1/6th of the price! The company has struggled over the last year, much of its business was travel bags, which collapsed with covid. But they are now getting back on track. Hence, whilst being honest their turnaround build time was a little slow, I was happy to support a home grown business. Rob

  34. This is how I do, handbrake on, in gear. With the winch on the front round the chassis. It’s very important to stop after a mile or two to check the straps are still tight. They can sometimes settle.

  35. Heading down to Leicester yesterday with an empty trailer, suns shining, Anna’s riding shotgun, everything’s good, when after an hour in a police bike points me to the hard shoulder. Pleasant guy, points out that I had overtaken the unmarked police wagon that’s going up and down the motorway, in the third lane! DOH! I wasn’t speeding which was a big plus. Unfortunately, because it was the covert vehicle, he has to report me, so now I’m in a lucky draw for either, words of wisdom, a driver improvement scheme, or contribute to the Police Christmas Party! Thankfully no points though. Lesson learnt, it was just a ‘I never give it a thought moment’, maybe just a little complacent; however made more frustrating by seeing much worse behaviour by motorists for the next 7hrs round trip.

  36. Not Great for me but the other 3 had a fine time in the Sun! My Alternator failed at Cardiff West Services exit - light came on, then rev counter dropped to 0, then speedo to 30 and when put clutch in at roundabout it died and was dead! Called the recovery and a kindly copper dragged me into the services 200 m away Checked the car and worked my way through battery, fuses, spark etc but wouldn't turn over, with Batt at 12V though ECU was 'protecting' it. Bit the bullet and recovered home And then whipped the Alternator out and thought I had a spare from 2.0 Blacktop but Ford ECU controlled one! So then it was drop the dead Alternator off at Bristol Auto Electricals and call yesterday to say DEAD and not worth repairing - new one from order £141 inc VAT..............Fortunately, Mike Starterman from Kit Car Blats picked up the thread and offered me a new Lucas LRB260 for £81 delivered! So Winner - just picked up today so hope to back on the road tomorrow. As for Pembrey - there is always another Track Day....
