Apparently, due to Covid sickness and working from home, DVLA staffing levels are very low, so I probably couldn't have picked a worse time to make a nuisance of myself. However, after almost three months, I've just been told my case has been approved. Background - my Westie is a Sierra SDV, built in 2004 using a handful of bits from a 1988 XR4i donor. When it was registered, it was given the "E" registration from the donor and (crucially) it was also given the "date of first registration" from the donor too (not sure if this was by default or by choice of the builder). My understanding is that when the car was SVA'd and first registered, the owner could have assigned a 2004 (or earlier) plate and everything would have been fine, but becuase the donor registration was used, the 1988 date was committed and used on the V5. This means that from DVLA's persective, my Westie is a 1988 car, which stopped me in my tracks when I wanted to assign an "N" reg personal plate. DVLA's online registration assignment system clearly wouldn't work, so in early February, I wrote to them explaining that the date of first registration should be 2004, not 1988. After passing the case round various departments that don't seem to talk to each other, they have now accepted my argument and they even phoned me this morning to let me know! So - if anyone is having similar problems, drop me a PM - I would be happy to provide a copy of the letter I used and I would be happy for you to use my case as a precedent.6 points

Last few jobs tonight pre Caldwell this week. Drivers seat back in as the new harnesses are a couple of weeks away. Swapped the fuel regulator back to the original one as I’ve ditched the swirl pot idea seen as I have a sump on the tank. - for sale thread to follow at some point. Popped the battery back on charge although I think it’s not very reliable (I didn’t fit this one and it doesn’t seem to hold a charge long) and I really want another Lipo from @Luke Algar I have my jump, pack on standby! Ran out of time, so a fire up tomorrow and try and set the mirrors. I could do with a rear view one now I’ve a cage. Im getting excited, it’s not been off the ramp since I brought it home.3 points

The 1975 rule only applies to emissions! All other criteria are tested on the date of registration, in your case 1994 so white and yellow reflective plates are required to pass an MOT and to remain legal.1 point

The age of the engine fitted at the time of IVA test is the critical factor for emissions. It is obvious that a Zetec engine is from the 1990's and therefore should probably have a catalyst test, though this is not always the case. If you haven't already seen it try this guide It is worth knowing that when it comes to kit car emissions the MOT tester needs to interpret the manual to find the correct test to carry out, then operate the EGA to that specification.1 point

i recently re-watched the gordon murray escort that the retro power lads built, they stated in that , that his car would need an iva. from watching binky i can see the same type of mods done, so with it being all over the web as they are the bad obsession lads will do this the correct way and iva it . as said, i cant see it failing either.1 point

@TableLeg yes they fit vehicles with FIA full roll cages, MSA or RAC.1 point

Is it a standard track or wide track car as the motion ratio makes a huge difference as to the springs required. 225 is very soft for either with a car engine1 point

Just curious, do these fit cars with a full rollcage and still leave enough material to reach the floor (they don't ride up because of it)?1 point

thank you gary, oh thats nice. i didnt really want to be spending any more on car stuff for a while but that would make my life a lot easier in the garage, i have fallen twice getting the current cover caught in my shoes... off to the parts dept then.. and yes you should get some sort of discount off your next order - an idea for you there parts dept...😉1 point

They are Richard. The front and rear are elasticated and tuck underneath nicely. It is very stretchy and soft too. You can get the logo in most of the Westfield colours and for a bit extra you can get your name embroidered in the back. It also comes with a nice little bag to keep it in when it's not on the car. I should get commission for this @Westfield Parts Dept😂...1 point

I can vouch for this as the owner of one of them, they are really good quality.1 point

Thank you @AndrewBClarke. I didn't know they could do that with the dashes so I will give them a call. I still have the old carpet set so a template wouldn't be difficult to produce. I haven't @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO but will do now. Many Thanks.1 point

Perseverance has paid off and I won't have to disconnect the airbag. I rang this morning in high dudgeon because they hadn't called last Friday as promised. I suggested that it would be better if they just told me they were not interested in helping me and save me the trouble of constantly ringing them. However, the lovely lady I spoke to asked me to wait a few minutes while she read the case history and she then said Peugeot would cover the full replacement of the indicator unit at the local dealership. She said she would email me and the dealership within the hour with the details and all I had to do was to book the car in. 30 minutes later the email arrived as promised. Overall, a good result but hard work in getting there. Nevertheless, many thanks to Lizzie for bringing it to a conclusion.1 point

somewhere around 275 and maybe a tad higher depending on what you like. i ended up with 275 as a nice ride over the rubbish roads we have now, xflow powered here so weights not that dissimilar to a cvh..1 point
