  2. RIP indeed. It's a pity he didn't quite make the century. I sincerely hope this doesn't cause the Queen to decide to abdicate. Obviously she also is a good age and is not going to be around for ever, but she has been such a superb monarch and I fear none of the possible successors could hold a candle to her.

  4. Today my old laptop a Sony Vaio I7 Quad core got all upset, it seemed to be getting very hot and bothered, so I thought I'd strip it down to clean the cooling fan & heat-sink.... it's a simple process and I've done it before, but it's been a while since I did it last..... All went well, dust, fluff and all manner of rabbit & cat hairs, I was quite pleased with myself until I tried to remove the old heat transfer paste from the CPU, GPU and the underside of the cooler assembly, the paste that was on it should have wiped off.... but nooooooo it was like concrete, I tried to moisten it with a damp cloth, yeah right like that worked.... NOT. I went off in a grumpy search for some switch cleaner / solvent / WD40...... now if any of you are like me and talk to yourselves whilst mooching about for stuff that you've 'put safe', you will know exactly how the 'expert opinion' creeps in...... with none of the aforementioned safely stored stuff coming readily to hand there formed on my lips the words errmmmm wait a minute, I wonder if Carb cleaner will shift it...... Well I've never seen anything like it, totally amazing, it didn't just shift it, it vapourised it..... I'm chuffed to bits, the Sage on the other hand is mightily p******** off at the pong de "DriveTec Carb Cleaner" it really is loitering in the house.... I probably should have gone to the shed to play ! Nem.........

  8. Spoke to A plan and got a real good renewal price compared to A flux from last year, will def recommend them, as it saved me almost £50 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, just rechecked the A plan policy quote against my current A flux cover, and it does not cover breakdown or personnel accident etc. New quote arrived from A Plan, so that it is like for like, and its more than A flux, so I wont be changing this time around.

  14. Hi chaps some of you may recall me from the early days on here , not been around here for I think 8 years not sure where that time has gone likely the same place as my hair and 6 pack never to be seen again. Anyway 8 years ago I sold my last 7 to go and race tin tops and thought I was done with that episode but last year I made a return and built myself another 7 to do Trackdays sadly with the covid carry on didn't really get out to use it much but hoping to make up for lost time and get out on track . 15. Which isn't likely to happen if it's on E-bay. There's usually a good reason people shift cars on e-bay and not allowing prospective viewers to view/test drive/inspect etc. Fine for normal cars at a low price but a specialist item such as this really needs a good look at and test drive before spending that sort of money.

  17. One thing to bear in mind is that the body tub is a pre-lit and no longer available should it need replacing - pre-lit body tub last produced 1987/88. The pre-lit body tub was able to fit both pre-lit chassis and a later SE narrow body chassis. If you look at the chassis rails and see circular tube members to top rails in engine bay its possible that its a pre-lit chassis from 87/88 era at latest, square tubing would make it a narrow body SE chassis. Date of registration does not fully determine original year of manufacture, some builds take years.

  18. Its been available for at least two, if not three decades or more. But here’s the key. It’s an option, for the chassis, it’s not, or wasn’t, standard. However, and here in my personal view is the problem; for at least the last twenty years, buyers, keen to get deals have been “talking” the factory into giving them the powder coating option for the chassis, for free as an extra. On the surface, this seems great, in reality we often, though not always, these days, get exactly what we paid for. And we paid nothing. Because it’s being given away, I guess it’s done as cheaply as possible, to save costs. The net result, is a lottery, as Chris said, plenty of chassis are ok, not brilliant, but ok. But some, like mine, were absolute horror stories in the end. Now of course, the amount of use and how the vehicle is stored etc will have a significant effect on how quickly any defects are revealed. Since then, any high weathering chassis items that I’ve got that I’ve been able to re-powder coat, (the chassis seemed out of the question to re do at the time, but in hindsight I should have), like the wishbones, I’ve had stripped, zinc primered and then powder coated. (The wishbones also then have paint protection film over the top). If re doing the chassis, or buying a new one, I would get it unfinished, then take it to a specialist, to have it hot-zinc (spray) coated, before powder coating.

  19. Partly, but in the (later) Westfield chassis issue with powder coating, it's primarily down to coating issues. I've had trouble with chassis sections that have had protective coat over the top, ACF50 over winter etc, and any scratches sealed immediately. However the powder coats adhesion has been so poor in areas, it's lifted anyway. The story I've been told from a few sources, is that the chassis at least, when my last one was coated, are not blasted on site, but at an outside contractors. They then have to be shipped back to the powder coaters, where they will have already started picking up light flash rust, and greasy finger marks from handling. I guess this then was not always being properly cleaned off before the coating was applied.

  20. Thats down to the quality of the coating on the chassis though, nothing to do with the chassis itself.
