I bought a 35mm Slide and Negative Scanner from good old Lidl for 25 quid and started to digitise my 40+ year old slide collection and I thought I would share some some of my motoring themed photos with you. First some rally cars which should be of interest to @OldStager and @Glen_I and others of course. I will try to add as much detail as possible. Staying on the Mk 1 Ford Escort theme here is is a photo of the two loves of my life taken in 1978 on Port Issac beach on our honeymoon in Cornwall. The eagle eyed of you will know that it is Port Wenn in Doc Martin and directly above my Mexico you can see Doc Martin's Surgery! I no longer have the Mexico unfortunately it had to go for our house deposit which was rather large as the mortgage rate was 15% in 1980 when we entered the housing market. Kids don't know anything about starting out these days there was no bank of Mum & Dad for us! Anyway the good news is my lovely wife is still with me. Below my Mexico are some photos of a 1934 Singer 9 Le Man that I had stored in a garage in my Father's orchard which I was restoring but unfortunately that also fell foul of the house deposit contribution. You know I often wish I still had my Mexico but ironically out of the Singer and the Mexico the Mexico is more valuable! Strange world!5 points

Just found this unreal video - starting from near the back of the pack on a rolling start of a race on a rainy day at the Nurburgring and driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R, how many similar class cars could she pass in one lap? If you guessed 39 with a minute and a half to spare, you win... and she was 45 years old at the time. 🥰3 points

I know it is not the same but make use of technology to speak with people if you can. Being alone is bad, I hate it even if I know Jeanette will be home later and worse when you have such an anniversary to cope with. Never met you but happy to talk rubbish with you, as I am sure many of are, if it helps get over this difficult period2 points

Spoke to George at A-Plan today and was more than happy with the quote compared to AF . Another new customer .2 points

I'm surrounded by children... OldStager, have a Google for negative and 35mm slide scanning. There are plenty of paid for services that will do it as well as plenty of gadgets to buy for a DIY solution.2 points

Well - he might have had to apply to the dvla for a V5. My wife had this problem when they failed to send a new one, then asked for a paper application paid by cheque/po only. That still didn’t work (no idea which ****** cashed the PO 🤬) and eventually got one through on third attempt after 6 months!!! (apologies for the thread drift!)2 points

It's not wrong. It follows anti-UK sentiment instead of medical advice. Politicians, like reporters, will never let the truth get in the way...1 point

@OldStager as you know with Aldi and Lidl you have to be there at the the right time, I just looked at my receipt and I bought it 31/01/21 but they usually come around about every 6 months. The main reason for buying buying mine was because our honeymoon photos were on slides but that's another story!1 point

Or moved house, or simply forgot until it became time to sell. Its a question to ask, sure, but might not be that significant. (I completely forgot to update all my V5's till about 5 months after moving! )1 point

As old as God... Which reminds me... Have you heard about the agnostic, dyslexic insomniac? He'd lie awake at night wondering if there really was a dog...1 point

Yeah I’ve had a look and it’s not the right car for me, the busa on eBay. Im viewing a duratec on Saturday that’s not openly for sale yet (he’s doing a track day next month then deciding sale or keep) and I’m also in dialogue with another duratec owner who is 100% selling but not advertising the fact until I see it and decide if I will buy it (which judging by the pictures and spec I think I likely will do). There’s also another duratec option but the owner hasn’t decided if he is going to sell yet until he uses it a little in the next few weeks. There’s a few cars about but I’m having to work hard to get to the front of the queue before anyone can beat me to it. All three of the above are good because to my knowledge there’s only me that knows they may be up for sale soon... fingers crossed 🤞🏻1 point

If you have a clay subsoil, it won’t allow water to drain down deep into the ground. Dig down in the centre of the lawn to find the ballast layer and if it’s not too deep, dig a trench across the lawn or a few squares where the water collects. Fill the trench or squares with coarse shingle or ballast and top off with Top Soil. Essex is known to have a clay layer sub soil and I have a small garden that flooded in winter. Had the boys round to dig out 1metre in the two lowest parts of my lawn through the clay layer to the ballast layer. I’ve had no garden flooding since 2006. With a large garden it would be worth hiring a mini digger.1 point

You're not alone, a lot of my neighbours have said the last few years that their gardens now flood where once they did not, this isn't an increase in rain fall, but the fact that many properties get rid of the front garden ( to park cars on it) and either concrete over it or pave it. Subsequently the surface water then has no where else to go other than the lawned areas. If it rains for more than a day , even my front garden gets about half an inch in places, and mine is all gravel, nothing sealed at all.1 point

Not sure I'd go for a damaged/repaired unless I knew the car. Have you seen the Blue SDV car for sale on the forum? Looks a lovely car. Don't be put off by the 115bhp, it'll still get a wriggle on. Also, its not hugely expensive to supercharge the Mazda 1.6 if it's not powerful enough to 160+ bhp on standard internals using the Mini Cooper S M45 supercharger. The M45 is £200-300 secondhand, mounting kits are about £200-300 (can be bought on ebay) plus belts, pipes and a rolling road.1 point

Very sad news indeed. Cancer does not discriminate on who it affects and this has been going on for some time sadly for her. It does seem so unfair when someone so full of life energy and fun is cut down before their time. Sometimes we have to focus on here and now as no one knows what is pre ordained for us.1 point

How dreadfully sad, how dreadfully unfair. 😥 Thanks for everything Sabine. 🏁 Oh... and f**k you, cancer. 🖕🤬1 point

Once again ditto to the above info, I suggested looking on here first because it's what I DIDN'T do when buying mine and I paid far far more for it and the standard was poor, which causes more cash to be spent. Good luck with the ongoing search anyway.1 point

I can vouch for the monetary value of the club. It has saved me a small fortune just with the advice available. Will add though that it goes way past a money thing, there are some great peeps on here that you get to interact with. Re the cars for sale posted on here, I’d say there are a couple at least currently available that are well worth a close look. Seem to be very good value. Good luck in your search. Ian.1 point

It’s because you are just a “trial member”. Only paid members can post in the for sale or wanted sections. You can buy a “paid extended trial” if you think full membership is too steep, but honestly if you seriously want a Westfield then the full fee usually pays for itself 10x over (ask anyone)1 point

Welcome Joe90, Have you checked here first https://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/forum/88-westfields-for-sale/ Before going to Ebay, cars on here will have been owned by WSCC members and will be well known on here. Once you have found something that takes your fancy, start asking questions about the one you like.1 point
