Iβve seen a few failed engines before, but Iβve never seen one that failed as spectacularly as this one: Good YouTube channel if you like this sort of thing.3 points

My wife is a finance director in the NHS and when we see "austerity" being thrown around it is not true in regards to the NHS. Spending has and continues to rise across all areas. You can always look at charts to prove a point depending upon what you want to say but in cold hard cash investment continues to rise year on year. The quoted 1% is not a simple one to equate either as that does not include awards already made for various reasons. It only really applies to medical and other staff at the top of their grade who are not underpaid in truth but one could ague they deserve more. When you then get to the nuts and bolts that due to the utterly bizarre way they try to equate what a catering staff, or an accountant do in bandings with medical staff it gets even worse as this 1% is to everyone regardless of frontline or not. This is why Sunek is now looking at could there be a one off bonus paid instead so medics are rewarded appropriately. We all have feelings on the NHS and my support for them is unswerving, but the waste and bad management is biblical. Empires have been made with every reorganisation which does not help put care where it is needed. My wife is working at home and when I hear some of her meetings with others, she has to keep reminding them that at the heart of the NHS is the patient but they so often forget that with targets to meet, boxes to tick and the latest buzz process to adhere to. As I have said before my Daughter is an anaesthetic Dr so we see it from all angles We have seen the true worth of the NHS and the staff from catering, porters up and yet politically all parties treat it shamefully, not in funding, but by being politically driven at all times first and foremost. But back to the thread, Blatman is right no other county of the size and complexity of the UK could have done better and regardless of mistakes made we are now going to come out of this better. The EU have suffered because of the added complexities being a political alliance and has demonstrated that the big countries wanted their vaccines first and that has not worked. We need the whole world vaccinated before we can get back to how we lived before and once again the UK is leading there with helping to fund and distribute3 points

Not quite the same but me and my guys would often take our seats on the plane and as soon as the cabin crew had finshed the safety brief... *bing bong*... the crew member would toddle up and one of us would look at him/her and with as serious a face as we could muster ask "Are we nearly there yet"... Some took it well, others licked our breakfast rolls before serving them...1 point

Well the fact it started at all is what I was meaning. I did see a vid on FB a while back where they started 3 old scrappers with no oil in, an old Ford a Peugeot and a Honda. The Ford and pug seized fairly quickly. The Honda lasted a good while and even long enough that they took it for a drive aswell before it finally conked.1 point

Ok just a "heads-up" to anyone in the 50 to 55 age group. The NHS vaccination booking system says 55 plus at the moment. Ive tried each day to enter my wifes nhs number and dob and as expected it says she isn't elligible yet. However, 10 minutes ago it gave her a slot, tommorrow....! Im guessing the booking algorithm is now seeing lots of free slots available as the 55+ cohort get jabbed, and is keen to fill them. Im also convinced it will vary greatly by region and even vaccination centre, but its worth a look if you're keen to get jabbed. Edit: I'm not condoning "queue jumping" here but just following advice from a close mate who runs a vaccination centre..... π1 point

Thank you everyone for your answers. Seems to confirm that although there was a very short run of scholar engines designated "speed sport" there could and most probably will be a variance in spec from one doped sport to the next let alone upgrades etc. This is a 2 owner car I'm looking at with the current owner having it for 20 years. I like originality and I'm told it is exactly as bought off the first owner, although of course it could of been fettled in its first 2 years. I'll value it on its individual spec when I see it and not put any kind of premium on it being a speed sport. Many thanks for all answers.1 point

I've seen a fair few electrical bodges in my time playing with cars. Scotchlocks, twisted together wires etc. However today I've seen a whole new level. This is the connector to an electric water pump on a 6 series bmw. Yes that is a wood screw with the blue ecu signal cable wrapped around it and then into a corroded up choc block. The heavy gauge battery positive has a large section with bare conductor strands and the earth was clinging on for dear life who would ever actually think that's a good solution! The mind boggles.1 point

Very pleased with the results, 210bhp (183 at the Wheels) and 154 lbft torque. Not bad from an old 1.8L Silvertop. Needed a new Fuel pressure regulator as the old unit was the cause of the poor running. Brilliant service from NMS and much less than I expected to pay out. The Westfield is now a new car, my first impression was pretty much F#$k me it's a weapon it just pulls and don't stop.1 point

Best one I saw was a diesel engine in a bin lorry. It seized completely just after it had completed its collection round, meaning it had 10 tonnes of household waste in the back. The engine swap took a fortnight, by which time the smell was so bad they had to push it out of the workshop and work on it outdoors. I was there when they finally got it going and lifted the tailgate to empty it... biggest rats Iβve ever seen, the size of small dachshunds and dozens of them, whoβd had a hell of a party back there, all ran out at once in every direction, screeching. Big burly mechanics screaming and running for the hills... wish Iβd had a phone camera at the time.1 point

Hi everybody, From Sunny Portugal. Time to introduce myself.. My name's Ivor and I'm a Motoholic. After a long year of looking and a couple of near misses, I think I'm finally in the club! Some of you know the Megablade turbo built by John Cobb (who I hear is a bit of a master). Now Megablade CBR1000RR, as its graced these pages a few times under the guardianship of various skilled hands. I am currently trying to negotiate the post brexit fangle of getting a car transported from the UK, to Portugal. There now seems to be all sorts of tax and import implications. If anyone out there has any recommendations for a transport firm or any ideas that legally avoid me spending 10 days in isolation in a travel lodge to come and get it I'd love to hear them. I haven't got the patience to wait until mid May, by which time they say Portugal may be off the red list and I would no longer need to quarantine in a hotel at Β£1750.00.1 point

Yep, I knew two friends that both bought factory built Speedsports, many years ago. One was blue, one was yellow, but other than that, from a distance both cars looked alike. Then you got close and looked at details, and both were quite differerent, one was fully dry stumped, Willwood brakes, Stack Rev counter and loads and loads of detail refinements, the other though it had the same Rally Design wide track kit, was way more βstockβ, in comparison.1 point

That makes sense. I'll keep the LM317 in for the sake of a few pennies.1 point

FWIW Iβd still use the LM317 myself. Once you get past the knee of the transfer characteristic the forward current rockets up for a tiny change in supply volts. Adding the constant current source fixes that.1 point

I agree too. Sounds like a bad case of post Brexit cutting-noses-off-to-spite-faces. The one thing I think we should all be proud of is the unbelievable progress that has been made with the vaccine roll-out. I don't care what colours are pinned to what flags politically speaking, the NHS has done an absolutely outstanding job and proved itself (as it so often does) to be in a class of it's own when it comes to the health of the nation. Thankfully I am not a frequent visitor to NHS facilities and from what one sees in the media, it's a disaster. The reality seems to be quite different at the moment. On the subject of Covid reporting it is the media that looks to be the disaster. Lazy reporting, political bias and hyperbole surrounding plainly ridiculous story's (and they are story's...) and generally not reporting some nuts and bolts facts, instead couching facts in pseudo science and belief (as if facts and science is a belief system) make them look out of touch and a little bit ridiculous, I wonder if they'll ever notice...1 point

Had mine today same time as Ali, my wife. All good so far π. Was a good day considering I had a needle stuck in me. We were jabbed at Stoneleigh which gave us a lovely little half hour drive out.1 point

I had the AZ vaccine, felt like I was getting a cold on Saturday afternoon, but quickly passed. Arm aching a bit now where the injection was, but it's a needle in the arm, it's going to cause a bruise of some sort. Glad I've had it. Want to get back to the "old normal" soon.1 point
