Don't know how many of you will remember me, I was an active member from 2000 - 2005 at which time we emigrated to Australia. Buzz Billsbury bought my yellow SEiGHT off me, which I think he still has to this day (although it's now blue, with (EDIT) wide-track front arms, plastic doll, I think he re-chassied it and it's now a 4.6) ! π We've been back in the UK for a number of years and I've have been browsing the forums once again, getting a bit of an itch for a track car and the camaraderie that exists in this great club! Just thought I'd say hello, rather than lurk. This was me at Elvington (2003) if that jogs any memories: Once I'd sold my car to Pete, I attended a lot of track days and Speed Series events (no car, just camera) taking pictures which I still have if you need any from 2004 / early 2005! Got expelled from school at 15 and went onto a YTS bricklaying course and out of 15 I was the only one who passed. That finished on a Friday and I got myself a job with a building company on the following Monday. I took to construction and learnt my trade as a general builder. Over the years I kept working my way upwards and became a Senior Site manager. I have done a lot in the food and drink industry building and altering factories to suit the clients requirements. Built a lot of schools, few court houses, hospital wards, blah, blah, blah. Never had an interest in cars and to be honest I still dont even though I like to have a nice car I just cant seem to get interested in working on them. I have tried to learn but I soon lose interest. I much prefer to just drive and enjoy the scenery.5 points

Portmeirion, as many have been closed with Covid restrictions. I can confirm March is closed (they cancelled our trip), April highly unlikely to be open (possibly after 12, according to welsh gov tests) - so difficult to plan as everyone is being backed up to the inevitable opening. Tough on everyone. I do remember on one of my overnight stays there, I took Westfield out to tour the Portmeirion βloopβ. Omg Chinese tourists went crazy with their cameras! Took a while to get back to my accommodation! Heres a couple of snaps, Bentley was βloanedβ from work!3 points

Q: How many group members does it take to change a light bulb ? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 17 purists who use candles and are offended by light bulb discussions. 6 to argue over whether it's 'lightbulb' or 'light bulb'. Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid. 22 to tell THOSE 6 to stop being jerks. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is 'lamp'. 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that 'light bulb' is perfectly correct. 49 to post memes and gifs (several are of Michael Jackson eating popcorn with the words added, βIβm just here for the comments.β) 19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page. 11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here. 24 to discuss the merits of LED/swirly fluorescent light bulbs 44 to claim LED and fluorescent bulbs will kill you. 12 to post F. 8 to ask what F means. 7 to post 'Following' but there's 3 dots at the top right that means you don't have to. 3 to say "can't share" 2 to reply "can't share from a closed group" 36 People to post pics of their own light bulbs. 15 People to post "I can't see S$%^!" and use their own light bulbs. 6 to report the post or PM an admin because someone said "fΓ·Γ$" 4 to say "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?". 13 to say "Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs". 1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that (insert politician of choice) isn't the brightest bulb. This usually takes place within the first three comments. 50 more to get into personal attacks over their political views. 5 admins to ban the light bulb posters who took it all too seriously. 1 late arrival to comment on the original post 6 months later and start it all over again.2 points

I've got those same pics saved from that day at Elvington.. not sure how I got them. π It was one of my first couple of trackdays.. ever. I'm way past 100 now. Here's one of you and your car, and I'm pretty sure Mr Billsbury, the current owner, standing on the left with his back to you. It's a shame Elvington's not running now, .. it used to be a cracking winter venue.2 points

Got sent this a couple of days ago. My best mate owned this between 1986 and 1991... Sold it for about a grand after he crashed it... https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/ford/1971-ford-capri-3000e-broadspeed-2/1 point

Good point Russ, we do generally, if it's felt the member who's reported needs to be contacted. For example - Some members kindly report a lot of post in the wrong section. Hence if we agree, we just move them and rightly or wrongly assume that the sender would notice it's been moved. Same goes for Spam. We check out the IP address, any other post history, discuss across the team to ensure it's agreed it is spam, and then zap the spammer as quick as possible. Again we'd not generally write a PM to the member who's advised. I agree it may appear rude, however many of the mods are moderating on top of busy day jobs etc and hence prefer to spend the time fighting spam etc and not sending pleasantries out via PM etc.1 point

Aww, cute Jude. I did have 3 border collies at once a while back, I just have the one left now and of all of the 3 this last one has dreadful separation issues, to the point it's actually hard to even pop to the shops. I think being the youngest as he was , being around 2 other dogs kept him occupied. This is the last one back in 2009 both he and the car no longer look like this, LOL, the bottom one is the other two.1 point

Following this thread over the last few months fired up an enthusiasm to dig out my son's old lego technic models and build them as I'd got fed up with doing jigsaws! Rumaged through the loft and found two boxes dated 1989, one a JCB and the other a Drot - tracked loading shovel. Built the Drot first and to be expected there were a few parts missing, searched the large box of lego our grandsons play with and luckily found what I needed. Next the JCB, a lot more complicated, but worked through the instructions methodically. First problem, missing worm gear. Searched eBay and found what I needed, so waited a week for part to arrive from France. Moved on several more pages and again more missing parts, so sourced replacements, wait a week and move on. Eventually after 3 weeks it was complete! Really enjoyed the builds and the resultant models work really well and now proudly adorn our book shelves awaiting the return of our grandchildren to play/destroy them.1 point

I did automotive and Motorsport technology at College, but taught me very little new. After college I got a job with 3M producing pharmaceuticals where I am trying to make my way into a technical role by learning how to fix and maintain the machinery better than the actual technicians. First experience with Westfields would be around 2003/4 when my dad was building his, then from 2005 onwards I've always been around the Speed Series. When I was at college in 2016-2018 my dad and had talked about a project car, something like an MX5 or an MG Midget; something to learn the ropes on. Then in November 2018 after my dad won the Speed Series, I found a Westfield chassis on Ebay and thought, that'd be nice, so I bought it. over 2 years later now, and it's still just a bare chassis, taking up room in the garage, I think I bit off more than I could chew when I thought that a competition Westfield built to compete against the likes of @Terry Everall - WSCC Competition Secretary and @Simon Waterfall Syman84 would be a good first car π1 point

Well that was all very exciting, anyone know where I can get more popcorn?! π Seriously though, this club and forum has been a fantastic oasis of normality, camaraderie, common sense and good humour throughout a really tough 12 months. Elsewhere in the world unfortunately, this often has not been the case. I personally feel very strongly that the Club Committee, Moderators and AO's have all done us proud in difficult circumstances, keep up the great work! ππ To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, you can't please all of the people all of the time....1 point

Would be handy wouldn't it, for me he is fine as long as he knows I am at home, I can be in the garage for hours at a time whilst he sleeps inside, yet if I walk out of the garden gate he's off with the howling. To be honest he hasn't got long left, he's now almost 14, his sister who I lost during Lockdown 1 was 15, not looking forward to the day it happens though !!. Richard.0 points

It's with great sadness that I have to announce that Steve has lost his battle with cancer. Steve passed away earlier today, at home with his family after coming home from a hospice. As many of you know, he built his Sport 250 from a kit completing it in July 2018, but never stopped upgrading and improving. His first outing was to our summer BBQ after going to the wrong Fox and Grapes. 3 days later, we were at Thornes Park for his first show. His enthusiasm for all runs and shows was immense, even after we all left him in a carpark when his steering wheel collapsed leaving him to gaffer tape it back together to complete his journey. Steve was a regular at all our meetings and will missed by us all. Our thoughts go out to Dawn and Josh.0 points
