  1. Came across another westfield today out near Market Rason.

  2. It was inevitable the Munter would end up in your garage!

  3. Yep. This is the faster car movement I have seen in my life. I had to sag the Green MX5 to make way for the munter... Advertised it in facebook for what it owed me, and its been sold in under 10 minutes. Amazing. I knew I bought it cheap... but not THAT cheap. Munter on its way as soon as I arrange stuff with Andy!

  4. Most of you will know that after a quick sale of my Westfield last year, I was left short of something to put round a track and @AdamR kindly let me become a foster carer for and MX5 affectionally know as ‘The Munter’. There’s a change happening shortly in my workshop so I need to make some space quickly. The rules are the same from when I took ownership, it’s offered free of charge, please don’t take it to profit off it, break to sell off parts, it’s ready to go and do great things round a track, once normality has been restored. It still comes with two sets of wheels, a few spares that Adam left with it. The new carer needs to pick it up from the North East, unless it falls within the route on the day (to be confirmed) next week when I will be heading down towards Peterborough. All the information you need is here

  5. I´m wondering what is happening lately. I don´t own a westfield anymore, and I come in here as normally the atmosphere is relaxed, free speech and even arguments while respectful were left alone, and where I have most of the time felt like at home... BUT In the last month, I have had one post removed with what I thought was good information, another one was closed "because was drifting from the OP purpose" after I did a massive, well informed and objective post, yet it was in "stuff and nosense..." where most of the posts do drift away... The last thing I have seen is a moderator opening a post, someone disagreeing, same moderator locking the post but leaving it live "to avoid future arguments". Well, if you are not ready for people disagreeing, beware on sharing your opinion... but sharing your opinion and then shutting the communication channel to sort of "stand your grounds" Isn´t the best way to run the place... I agree moderation is necessary, sometimes stuff get messy, there is SPAM and bots to keep in check... but having an excess of them, means also a messy line of moderation based in personal opinions rather than following an agreed "editorial line"... Aren´t we going a bit too far? or Have I just been unluky?

  6. Hi Guys, I'm new on here so wanted to introduce myself. Scottish car enthusiast, name is Kerr and owned various 7 esque Kit cars but never a Westfield. I bought a 1997 factory built Seight that's been modified quite a bit and so far has been excellent fun. 4.0L fuel imjected built by JE Engineering and reportedly 330bhp. I'm not convinced its 330bhp but its certianly not slow. I'll attach pictures, I know its been owned by a WSCC member in the past. Anyone recognise it?

  7. 😂 it’s had @AdamR and me as owners! Priceless 😉 It’s found a home in record time, just waiting to finalise details with Maurici.

  8. Rolled her out again to give her yet another spanner check, tyre pressures, a polish and run her to temperature. I replaced the drivers side cycle wing stay last year and how it sat had been bugging the bejeezus out of me. After a bit of fettling she's looking almost perfect now 👌 Also refitted the front "oops Officer it fell off" number plate so she's ready for a fresh MOT in the coming weeks.... roll on non essential travel!!!!

  10. Anyone up for a day at Scotland's premier motorsport venue? Monday May 24th, Open pitlane from 10am to 5pm, a nominal 105db noise limit, but I've never been tested there yet. Cost is £200.. they've been steadily rising over the years, but well worth it in my opinion. Obviously this is all dependant on un locking from Covid restrictions. I haven't booked yet, and so far there's only three of the fifty maximum places taken. At this stage, maybe just a show of hands? Who's interested? 😎 1. Andrew Booked 👍 2. @Gary Taylor Booked 👍 3. @BenD ..🤔 not thinking about it. 4. @Rush Motorsport ..only gone and booked it!! 👍 5. @Michael Whitworth 👍 6. @a15cro 👍

  11. Ah, the memories of moderation duty... 🙄 I think if people expect to be cut a bit of slack for the slightly OTT things they post once in a blue moon, moderators deserve the same bit of slack. They’re not perfect (Lord knows I wasn’t) but they are doing their best and you can take it to the bank when I tell you it’s a thankless volunteer unpaid job. It was almost without fail that the dreaded moderation report email would ping into my inbox in either the evening after a long rotten work day or a Sunday morning when I just wanted peace and quiet and a chance to recharge. It’s not easy to strike a balance and it’s easy to not quite succeed. The moderation team does a great job - not a perfect one, but a great one and they have my appreciation and support.

  12. I missed the thread where a run out was posted. I agree wtih SDH in that there is no prescribed type of vehicle that can be used for essential journeys. But was the journey essential? It's easy to use the various "language loopholes" to justify any trip out. Put a person on the back foot by villifying them publicly and a defensive position will be taken. Nothing to see here but human nature. I think Ian's message was well meaning. He is a Club official and I don't think I have ever seen one act where it is not in the clubs interests and I support him and the Committee 100% , including this time. However... the delivery was maybe a tad clumsy. Hands up who has never tried to speak with a foot lodged firmly in their gob only to have it joined by the other one. I've done it a lot, you'll be unsurprised to hear... I also think Maurici is making a mountain out of a molehill. I am responsible for plenty of... lets call them "lively discussions". Sometimes they get near the mark. But those of you who read and occasionally like to get involved when I'm on one will note that I almost never have threads I am involved in moderated. Given my posting history, any suggestion that there is too much moderation is demonstrably nonsense.

  13. The one had dyno'd at 330 BHP, 350lbft, it was a 5.1L stroker with jenvey TBs (yes 8 of them) worked heads, dry sump and 6k rpm limited, 1000rpm in top and floor and it went like a scalded cat! To this day and probably to the end of my days I regret selling it 😞

  14. I wasn't ranting as such. But I will explain before I take a step back for a while. Blatman is correct, this started Earlier in the day, so I'll explain, a member posted some pictures of them out in their Westfield. Without knowing the full story several members started having a pop at him. I stood up for them. This ended up with me being called a w**ker. I'm not precious, I've been called worse. The post was moderated (correct thing to do and I recieved an explanation as to why it was moderated). Later on in the day this post appeared. To me this was a thinly veiled dig at the member posting the pics earlier on in the day. I also took exception to the fact "an officer of the club" is putting out statements effectively telling people how they should behave. This is not a job for forum moderators. Also as @maurici states this thread was then self pinned, self moderated and locked to prevent anyone from stating an alternative viewpoint. In my mind this is an abuse of moderation powers. If this was the view point of the club then maybe it should have been posted by the chairman. I too have had pms from several members in support of my thoughts including one who's only form of transport is a Westfield, but In the eyes of some members and committee members would be vilified for using it, even though perfectly acceptable in the eyes of our lawmakers for essential reasons. In general the moderation team on here do a cracking job, however it appears the powers have gone to the heads of some. Steve.

  22. I am approaching sixty and have owned and driven many classics, hot rods and sports cars. It is the anniversary of my Westfield purchase in 2018, so I thought I would celebrate by writing this. I was looking for a "classic" car but the purchase price, poor handling, inherent corrosion and poor performance had put me right off anything that fit my budget. In desperation I purchased my "project" (wreck) of a 1990 Westfield SEIW (Q823 DSA) because for the money, I believed it to be the best British sportscar I could buy. Today, after a complete body off restoration I am still of that opinion. And when I say "best" I don't just mean the driving experience. As opposed to most classics, the Westfield is a delight for the home mechanic to maintain and modify. For a Crossflow engined Westie the parts are cheap and plentiful with great support from this forum and vendors alike. The Westie is really easy to set up for everyone's individual requirements. I have lightened mine to a shade over 500Kg and changed the springs at both ends several times (because there cheap) to achieve the most delightful ride. Adjusting most of the suspension settings takes just a few minutes with a basic toolkit to achieve the levels of grip and handling "feel" you desire and that surpass nearly all moderns. I have also modified my Westie to look "older" replacing all the black plastic bits with chrome items together with using older style lights and instruments. I was at my mates body shop Friday night and someone had asked him to sort out his "restored " MGB Midget, which he was selling for £7,500. What a coil of dogs mess! Apart from the wheezy 1275cc "A" series and live rear axle on cart springs, the panel gaps were the worst I have ever seen! And I won't even mention the corrosion bubbling up under the terrible paint job. 30 year old Westfield SEIW with Crossflow - when all things are considered, easily the best British classic sports car for the money!

  24. Now I'm extremely tempted and this is perhaps another one of my ducks that needs to line up. Problem I have is I have no way of transporting it and no tow car either ( see my post on race licence stuff) as I'm attempting to get back into competitive driving again. I am going to have to have a darn good think about this. Richard.

  26. Yes, even I managed it! That pic is prior to pulling the straps tight which took the looseness out. I did have to remove the seats to rivet the straps down. Easy job all in all.

  28. The totally unnecessary pinned post at the top of the page has now been locked, therefore removing my right to reply. Sadly due to its pinning its now above one of the most important posts on this site. Is this how the club is heading now that senior members can do this? I have no beef with the author In the slightest however the wscc is a haven of car building, cobras, Midlanas, Westfields, tanks, and even the odd dodgy puns. Not a place to be told what we should and shouldn't be doing regarding Covid. We have government for that. Maybe it's time to logout for a while.

  29. Dear All The weather recently has been lovely, spring days and it would be lovely to go out for a drive in our Westfields. However- we are still in a lockdown, so this means only essential journeys. Westfield cars are more likely to attract attention and the last thing you want to see is a pair of blue flashing lights in the mirrors. It wont be long before we can go out, lawfully and meet other club members, so please, for the time being, stick to the govt rules, stay safe and be patient. Better days WILL soon be with us. Thank you Ian

  30. OK here is the bonnet, I have the catches as well somewhere. If you want it, I have no clue as to how we transport it. I had some swept wings shipped late last year and the postage was half the cost of the wings !. Unless you wait till lockdown ends and collect?. Tried to photo the cracks, my camera is rubbish but I hope you can see them, I am sure someone with Fibreglass experience would sort it out. PM me if you want my address. I have no clue as to a price either, so make an offer and see where we get to. Richard.

  31. clean the chassis and aluminium panels with a cloth and some WD40 Watch out for petroleum based polishes and the likes of Tcut! which over time may cause a grey fogging in the gel coat I would recommend For cutting Farcela G3 and to get a shine something like SwissVax a natural Carnauba based polish, very easy to apply
