  3. Hi all, The big news of the day is that it's official - we have a Devon & Somerset Area! I think that we should get a mention in the next edition of the magazine and we also now have an area email address: devonsomerset@wscc.co.uk With the glimmer of hope around Covid and restrictions easing, I hope that it won't be long before we can schedule in a drive out. There is also the Haynes Breakfast club meet (prior thread in the forum) scheduled for 4th April which could be fun - givem a bit of decent weather. I look forward to meet some of you over the coming weeks and months - and as always - very open to suggestions and ideas on stuff we can plan in. Thanks, W

  4. Really !!!, the guy that was dealing with me is called Charlie Brannagan and his email is Charlie.Brannagan@motorsportuk.org. All he wanted to know was my full name, date of birth and the last address when I held the licence. If you check their website, they do hint at being possible, so I am suprised you got different info. Sorry.

  5. Just you wait until you’re 60 and feel chuffed with yourself for coming up with the idea of writing it down in the Memos part of your phone or recording it on the Voice Memos app so you could remember it once upstairs. Triumph and tragedy in one hit. 😎😫

  6. Had mine 2 weeks ago. No after effects. Volunteering at local vaccination centre (rural rugby club), principally as car park marshals, it’s an interesting experience!

  9. To my knowledge the difference is the “i” - and I’m not taking the pee! It stands for “independent” - as in suspension. So the rear part of the chassis is different to accommodate the independent suspension, but bodywork (and pretty much much everything else) should be the same. We also have SEW (wide live axle) and SEiW (wide independent) All recent cars, regardless of engine, are SEiW’s. Here endeth today’s lesson 😁

  10. I think it may as easy if you just came round and see what bits I have 😆 I have one also, need to see what I may nicked off it over the years and yes MK2 Escort. My one has been modified by WF as it has the cycle wing restriction in them which limits lock., if you get one from an Escort you would need to add these or your cycle wings will hit the bodywork. I'll take some pics tomorrow for you.

  13. Due to Scottish covid restrictions, all circuit activity is suspended until 25th April. I think for now, I'll stick with my plan to do the 24th May day. Only two places taken so far so no need to panic yet.

  14. Run in on a dyno? That'll be ideal.

  15. My wife and I had it last October, we have been so careful but assume one of our children bought it home from school, the eldest is at secondary school but in her defence she is quite careful as she has been in hospital for past 4 years at Easter time with chest infection and on a drip for 3-4 days. However so many friends kept saying 'oh, you're both okay now then, so you should be allowed to carry on as normal' and as we had antibodies we both donated plasma to do our part, but they don't seem to understand we can still carry it and transmit it on (this is how I understood it). We were both fortunate as we were well and only suffered loss of taste, my sense of smell isn't back but in the grand scheme off things I am not going to grumble about that. We are in early to mid forties so a little way off from a jab yet but we have no hesitation in having it, we see it as another step closer to normal(ish) times again and hopefully safely meeting friends and family again. My wife's friend is a A@E nurse at Winchester Hospital and they were told last summer cancel any holiday booked from October 2020 or try and not book any off. I am a little ashamed to say during March to June last year I kept thinking this will blow over, and it's a little over the top but as I try and explain to friends, yes we had it and we were okay, but the fact I can't smell properly (apart from a constant burnt/rich diesel smelling Transit van fumes is best way to describe it) 4 months later shows it has left a longer term impact on me. Fingers crossed its all heading in the right direction now and sooner the better for us all me thinks?

  16. Although I'm finding it slightly disturbing that Lego construction now seems to require the services of some kind of rechargeable Dewalt product, and a rolling pin! But at least you've got a cat overseeing the project!!

  17. Exactly my thoughts, I've actually had it last year, so probably still have some resistance. However, I'm getting it done as soon as practical, simply because I believe it's my social duty to do what I can, inoculations included for the rest of our society, both nationally and internationally.

  19. Dark blue with stripes you say. These are 100mm wide with a 50mm gap (the width of a wide masking tape) down the middle. They cost me about £15 from a sign makers.

  20. +1 For storing the jack under the bonnet, with tools on the skuttle. I struggle to find a luggage rack that would fit the boot lid, so bought a kitchen pan trivet!

  21. finished fabricating a foot rest today. 2mm alum alloy sheet, rubber matting bonded on. it's hinged at the top and so can be lifted up to accommodate taller passengers. Lockable chrome hasp at the bottom creates a nice 'secure-ish' storage area. Just need to install a couple of press studs on leather loop straps to secure it in the up position when not in use.

  22. So the second coat has been done and I have to say that I am rather pleased with how it looks. As I knew I would have loads left over, and nothing else to do with the remaining paint, I decided to put down a thicker coat as well as paint further up the walls. I could've split the mix down, as Snags suggested, but I'd have no use for the paint in the near future so it would probably end up wasted. I reckon I had maybe a large mug full left over, vs the 1/4-1/3 of a tin that I had with the first coat. Now the paint is dry, the floor should be good and waterproof so any spills won't soak in anywhere and should be easy to wipe up or just mop out the door. I did leave a little heater running for a while, as the drying times are all stated at an air temp of 20C and it is not that warm right now! Equally, that one little heater is enough to make the garage warm enough to work in a t-shirt so all the work that went into the roof and the insulation is paying off already. Essentially, that is the floor done! The existing floor wasn't the worst by a very long way, but as I hate kneeling on loose bits and divots in a floor I felt the effort was worth it. Certainly I feel that the transformation from before to now has been a most positive change. The floor has only been one part of the change, with the new roof, lighting and electrics all making it a nicer and more convenient to be. Having a double socket every 4' may seem overkill, but it will save having cables trailing everywhere which is another pet hate of mine! I do have a new door seal strip to fit at some point today but that's a final finishing touch. I hope that this thread has shown others one way of doing things and that a decent level of finish can be achieved with only a few basic tools and the right products. There are no doubt cheaper ways of doing the work I have, but I wanted a finish that I can expect to last for many years.

  23. It is the only time I have been jealous of people older than me. I will get it but one of the last groups. I cannot wait to have it. My daughter is an anaesthetic Dr working exclusively at the moment in Covid ITU in between Solihull and Heartlands in the midlands. Spoke with her earlier and she was just dealing with three more deaths, which might have not happened if they had had the vaccine to lessen the severity. I am not one for censorship but with all the viral social media claims which are utterly insane, perhaps we should curb this as it is clearly affecting some otherwise rational people. Great news you have had it Scott, take care

  24. I know this is a Covid thread, but sorry Dave regarding your mum's dementia. I hadn't had any experience with it till a few months ago when an uncle was diagnosed with the same thing. We had worked it out long before the tests he had to have and is truly a cruel condition on all parties concerned. Also I have to write lists for everything now (I'm 55) and if I don't and I walk into a shop I then wander around trying to think what it was I wanted, gahhhh what's wrong with me.... Hope you feel better soon Richard

  25. The wife of one of my business partners is a teacher, and caught it, needless to say, before we knew it both my business partner, Mark and then me caught it, before Val first became symptomatic. So we were all some where around 24 hours behind each other in the progression! I've not had the taste/smell issue, though Mark has, his wife Val, like me though, has had no loss either. in terms of illness level, bad, but not at any point feeling even remotely life threatening but beyond the worst level of flu I’ve ever had, and I’ve had the proper can’t move in and out of hallucination type flu before now. Was really bad for about a week, less bad for a further week, then for a long while afterwards, low energy and poor stamina levels. Both of which are still not 100% though better. However my memory, and in particular short term memory is not back to where it was, by a reasonable margin. I do find my self having to make plenty of notes, that occasionally I don’t remember writing, and even at times hunting for the right word, even though I may have used it a few sentences ago, (The memory thing is really, really hard mentally, having spent a few years previously acting as carer for my Mum as she suffered terminally worse and worse vascular dementia).
