just a quick note to say thanks to Ash @Rednop1 a call for a spare singular kick strip for a small project on the car. didnt want anything for it so chucked some cash into the wscc charity pot. I think it really shows that even during the last year when we can't be in each other garages helping each other out, that the spirt of helping each other is alive an well. This can be even if its in the form of words of encouragment and technical help via the forum. So Thanks Everyone8 points

Sorry, only just had a chance to dig back through some photos: I took vital supplies to Silverstone, for the Classic, one year by a combination of using the spare wheel carrier with a plank on, to support the (beer and burger) fridge. Tent, camping gear and a 40l dry bag were strapped on top of the tonneau cover. Later, I got the Caterham luggage rack that fixes around the spare... (Testing with, ahem, beer fridge!) The bar folds up against the spare, out of the way when not in use. For the European trips, I've used one of the Lomo 60 litre dry bags. (Dry bags are invaluable for this sort of stuff. packed properly, you could literally dunk them under water with no immediate leaks. They'll take rain etc all day long.) Tools, I've tended to store a WSCC tool roll in the boot, with a jack and wheel brace under the bonnet, in a tray I mage for the purpose. And with the WSC jack in it. (Westfield supplied it bagged, with the wheel brace) And then for all the small spares - fuses, jubilee clips, tapes, nuts and bolts, WD40 etc. There was the infamous pie-warmer! These are actually IP rated document holders from Heavy Plant, JCB's etc. But hold a fair amount, in this large size. And below, wrapped with self adhesive heat reflective foil.3 points

My bad folks - I thought I'd set the cert to "auto renew" but the radio button was so "ambiguous" it turns out it was set to NOT auto-renew. Now fixed (we're in Webmaster mid-handover, so I'm still helping out behind the scenes!)3 points

I’d lay it down as you have to us. .. you sold it for xxxx.. it’s going to cost xxx to Collect as it’s non running. And you are allowing £1500 to get it back to the condition it was when you sold it. It’s not an insult if you are justified. If he says No chance and throws back a figure £1k more you can use your man maths to self justify more.3 points

I would be there of course, but talking with my head and not my heart. knowing how hard you both work to organise things and with your own busy schedule of other jobs, coupled with the uncertainty of covid regulations then in my head I would take a break for this year. Nothing to stop us going ahead next year. Also with a lot of folk not wanting to commit to things given the uncertainty, I think a lot of runs events will be very last minute / and spontaneous . Our local agriculture shows have already been cancelled for July and august for these very reasons. In my heart I want to do it as it’s a brilliant day out ( weekend away) but we are in debited to you both for organising it, so I think it’s only fair to you to take the hard decision now rather than later. Gold Cup meeting. This three day event on the 28th to 30th August is always one of the highlights of the year. The Wirral and North Wales area have a stand at the show for you to display your Westfield and enjoy the show and the racing. And Jeff wants to know if you prefer Victoria sponge, chocolate cake or apple pie and custard. Tickets this year are not free as in the past, but are discounted 50%, so excellent value even so. The three day ticket is the best, it doesn’t mean that you have to attend all three days but you have a choice, handy with our British summer time weather. https://www.oultonparkgoldcup.com/get-involved/1 point

Yes, fantastic news, we will defo be going here. It is £15 entry fee to the exhibition or £49 if you want to drive one of their classic cars. And yes @RobH72 if you have spare pennies left afterwards you can pop next door for a small large gin.1 point

I try to travel light. It's a shame to have to lug an extra 100kg when the roads are this good. I have a long range tank so boot space is restricted but still room enough for a few tools, spares, oil etc. No passenger so tent in the footwell along with a gallon of fuel (4.6l V8). bag of clothes etc on the pass seat. After doing many trips into Europe you find out whats essential. Kenton1 point

Absolutely! He's probably worrying that it could be thousands. (Especially if from a non-kit/self-build background. The idea of engine swaps in itself is daunting, coupled with scare stories of new engines from dealers costing big, big money). Even if he's done a fairly generic search for a recon engine, it may have pulled up scary figures.1 point

And if he starts with 'it wont cost that much to put it right' then why hasn't he done so already??1 point

Yes, I've already asked Chris to fix it and I've put up an announcement on the forums so we don't get 20 threads about it...1 point

He's got no prices to compare to, given the current condition. I'd suggest £6K. You know the car, others won't, so I doubt anyone else is likely to offer him more etc.1 point

You do realise your not allowed travel with corona. 🤪 This packing thing rests a lot on whether you have a passenger. If you don't, you get can loads in. Taking another person with you is all that space gone and you get their stuff too. So my top tip is disown friends and relatives.1 point

Really? You might want to remember who it was who gave you your nickname. 🤣1 point

I had so many friends and family members who kept questioning why I still have my Westfield sat in the garage despite it not turning a wheel for 15 yrs but with other more important priorities it just sat there gathering dust, a few times I did think it's a waste and may as well sell it but I had a niggling idea I would never be able to justify blowing a load of cash on what is a toy, especially with children on the scene now...............so 15 yrs on from when it was last used we are on track to have it back on the road how I always wanted it...... Now in the current climate that no one ever predicted there is not a hope in hell I could ever go and buy one now, Wife has just been made redundant and I am dodging it (twice since last March), but it will catch up with me probably this year............. Basically I am glad I didn't listen to anyone 😂1 point

Agreed, had many cars I regret letting go. I decided that with the Westy that wasn't going to happen, despite some years where 200 miles has been the max and it just sat there. I'm on year 13 so far...1 point

Wow the Mae Hong Son loop is like a 600km version of the Nurburgring on steroids. We are now at Pai about half way round and probably as far north as it goes.1 point

The covid situation means I am not committing to anything ahead for this year. I know many others are the same. I understand how much it takes to organise, so I would say hold off organising until you have enough 100% commitments. Perhaps just start sorting what you know can be carried straight over to 2022 if necessary. All reports for your weekends have been brill, so it is definitely on my to do list.1 point
