  2. I had so many friends and family members who kept questioning why I still have my Westfield sat in the garage despite it not turning a wheel for 15 yrs but with other more important priorities it just sat there gathering dust, a few times I did think it's a waste and may as well sell it but I had a niggling idea I would never be able to justify blowing a load of cash on what is a toy, especially with children on the scene now...............so 15 yrs on from when it was last used we are on track to have it back on the road how I always wanted it...... Now in the current climate that no one ever predicted there is not a hope in hell I could ever go and buy one now, Wife has just been made redundant and I am dodging it (twice since last March), but it will catch up with me probably this year............. Basically I am glad I didn't listen to anyone 😂

  4. Or should that be every silver lining has a cloud 😅 A matt black cloud! Edit: Seriously though, nothing lasts forever, and I do think this last 10 months or so has made us all feel a bit weird. Hang on in there for circuits to open again!

  5. It’ll be fine, just drive at your own pace. Or if that’s too fast, drive at @Chris Kings pace! 😄

  6. All being well the car is booked in to have a new roll bar fitted later next month so before I strip everything down to a bare chassis there’s a few jobs, measurements and photos I need to do as it’ll be a long time before the car is complete again after this. The car is being built with circuit racing in mind and for that I need a 2 litre oil catch tank, which is done thing the car never had in period. There’s absolutely zero room inside the chassis to fit it so the only space left is on the outside. I’m trying to avoid adding any new brackets to the chassis but luckily a suitable space presented its self to the side of the gearbox, I just needed to fabricate a bracket so it could be bolted to the box. incase you’re wondering yes I did spill a whole bottle of marking blue !

  7. Coming from a biking background, I reckon we will have more space than we know how to fill. As said, lots of books and crannies to fill. Tools under bonnet for me. Couple of bags on top of the boot and away we go.

  8. Summat like this gets you to Italy and back via France, Austria and Germany, over two weeks. And you can still use the hood if you have to. 😎

  9. I used a parcel courier! Packed and wrapped in the morning by us, courier collects and delivers to next destination. It was always there before we arrived! Takes a bit of organisation but you can take more for longer and it remains dry. When I did the Cannon Run, they organised transfer of luggage.

  10. Gold Cup meeting. This three day event on the 28th to 30th August is always one of the highlights of the year. The Wirral and North Wales area have a stand at the show for you to display your Westfield and enjoy the show and the racing. And Jeff wants to know if you prefer Victoria sponge, chocolate cake or apple pie and custard. Tickets this year are not free as in the past, but are discounted 50%, so excellent value even so. The three day ticket is the best, it doesn’t mean that you have to attend all three days but you have a choice, handy with our British summer time weather. https://www.oultonparkgoldcup.com/get-involved/

  11. The link below was shameless steal of 3D printed 7, posted elsewhere on the net. Ok you 3D boffins, who is going to make a Westy?.

  12. Have been there, I sold the Westfield I built and tried a Lotus Elise years back, just wasn’t for me. Took a while to find another Westfield (Duratec) which I swapped for a mega S2000. No plans of selling again ! So think of a realistic spec you can afford and keep a look out, you will find another you can make yours! Andy

  13. Such a shame Andy, but you're right, I've seen and heard it happen to members again, and again.

  15. Agreed, had many cars I regret letting go. I decided that with the Westy that wasn't going to happen, despite some years where 200 miles has been the max and it just sat there. I'm on year 13 so far...

  18. There are lots of odd little spaces around the car for things like tools, spares and other less often needed things. Then you’d be surprised how much can be stored above the boot box strapped to the rear of a roll bar. (Or maybe not after seeing the sideboard @Robin (Red Spider) - Yorkshire AO carries round - though we may laugh, I noticed we all used it at some point at the Silverstone Classic, when a load of us were camping in a group). The (Caterham) rear luggage rack that straps and hooks on to the spare wheel is really handy too.

  20. Lomo bag and rok straps will get you a long way. Rear luggage rack also helps. Other than that, be strategic with your space. I've got a frame over the diff to store my tools (hidden under the boot lid that just looks like fixed bodywork so they don't attract any eyes) Also store my jack under the bonnet. 2 months hiking and camping around Europe with this setup was great, so NC500 should be manageable!

  26. So the second coat has been done and I have to say that I am rather pleased with how it looks. As I knew I would have loads left over, and nothing else to do with the remaining paint, I decided to put down a thicker coat as well as paint further up the walls. I could've split the mix down, as Snags suggested, but I'd have no use for the paint in the near future so it would probably end up wasted. I reckon I had maybe a large mug full left over, vs the 1/4-1/3 of a tin that I had with the first coat. Now the paint is dry, the floor should be good and waterproof so any spills won't soak in anywhere and should be easy to wipe up or just mop out the door. I did leave a little heater running for a while, as the drying times are all stated at an air temp of 20C and it is not that warm right now! Equally, that one little heater is enough to make the garage warm enough to work in a t-shirt so all the work that went into the roof and the insulation is paying off already. Essentially, that is the floor done! The existing floor wasn't the worst by a very long way, but as I hate kneeling on loose bits and divots in a floor I felt the effort was worth it. Certainly I feel that the transformation from before to now has been a most positive change. The floor has only been one part of the change, with the new roof, lighting and electrics all making it a nicer and more convenient to be. Having a double socket every 4' may seem overkill, but it will save having cables trailing everywhere which is another pet hate of mine! I do have a new door seal strip to fit at some point today but that's a final finishing touch. I hope that this thread has shown others one way of doing things and that a decent level of finish can be achieved with only a few basic tools and the right products. There are no doubt cheaper ways of doing the work I have, but I wanted a finish that I can expect to last for many years.
