  1. Hi all, I have wanted to post on this thread for quite sometime now, actually since Adam first started this thread. As others have said it a credit to Adam and the forum members for this awful affliction to become as normal to talk about as the weather. My own issues started way back in 2002 ( actually was instigated in 1970 !!) when I tried the most stupid thing of trying to end it all, fortunately all that happened was a night in hospital and a stomach pump, I tried counseling immediately after this as my GP fast tracked me to the correct department. Sadly however, the guy I was given ( as I found out later) was just out of training and I simply could not connect with him , I was learn that he left the NHS shortly afterwards. This put me off getting any further professional help for quite sometime. Then another rather sad affair saw me in hospital again wearing an oxygen mask after trying to do the same trick using my car exhaust ( actually, it is rather embarrassing to see those words in print here for me !) Fast forward to 2014 and I had enough of feeling like this all the time and went to my GP again, I was once again given some help in what they now called CBT, and I have to say after many many sessions over two years, it really did help. There really isn't one session or one thing I was told to think about that did the trick, I think it was perhaps the opportunity of just simply telling 'my story' to someone who not only listened , but understood - and the most important aspect was that they had empathy, a word that is lacking these days ( or was). So an an ex 'service user', PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do get help should you going down the slippery slope of self harm or worse. I never ever thought I could be cured as it were , but the brain really is just a rather wet computer and as such can be reprogrammed with new instructions, it may well take time to delete those unwanted files but once done you end up with a nice organised system, capable of dealing with any problems that its given without crashing all the time. All I need to do now is start working again, as that all stopped in 2002, this Covid has somewhat delayed that as I finally felt able to cope with a work environment again , but I will get there. When we can all meet up again Adam, remind me to buy you a beer at the Green Man for starting this thread, yes we have met before at a Lancs meet once. Richard

  2. I have been meaning to post these for a while. The story rambles but you with get there if you stick with it. After seeing @maurici peice that was produced by his very talented partner in crime Ana, i got to work hatching a plan for my wife for christmas between Maurici, Ana and Myself. Mrs W (Michelle) lost her mum a couple of years ago after her breast cancer came back very quickly having been in remission for a number of years. Michele didnt really have many pitures of her and her mum together so i found some pictures of her mum wth husband and Michelle with me in a simlar oriantation. Ana merged the two together to create something that never actually happened. Now on to westy side of things. As some of you know i also have a pre-lit built by Dad in 1987 as well as the blade. The car sat for 22 years from 1990 to 2012 having only been driven 373miles (still only done about 2000). I spent a couple of months sorting parts and referbing others, when we got it back on the road and the first thing we did was go on a trip the the Nurburgring and so Ana then copied o photo of me coming round Brünnchen. So anyway bit of show and tell but also to say Ana is still taking commissions so get in touch with @maurici who can hook you up and if he does the salesman bit on you then youll end up with two pictures and not just one.

  8. This seems to be a bit of a red herring to me, I think that this thread should get back to the plaice where it started; the subject was solely about carp. Oh yes, the fish is Koi, not Coy.

  11. My father has had both. Second one was three weeks ago. He's 91 and whilst not "frail", he's 91... My mother (care home resident) had her first one two weeks ago and we hope will get her second this week. Much like my dad she's not "frail" but she's 90 and has Alzheimers. The saving grace is that because of the care home, she is pretty much constantly monitored. The care home staff are always very good at updating us on her current medical status. Neither of my parents has seen any adverse reactions which is great. Me, becasue of my age, am in the 7th of the 8 groups identified so I am expecting the call to come in March/April and I'll be running as fast as I can to get that needle. Likewise my brother. Despite the idiotic, unfounded claptrap spouted by anti-vaxxers I have taken the time to read plenty of Lancet and BMJ articles about the vaccines, their testing, efficacy and contra-indications so I personally am satisfied it is as safe as any other vaccine I have had in the course of my life. And becasue I've travelled to foreign climes and visited hospitals when the sharp tool I am using gets out of control, I've had a fair few innoulations in my time. None of them have done me any harm... well, OK, I know I'm a bit of a t*t sometimes but I don't think that's because of vaccinations...

  12. John, Glen would like to put forward his idea too, if he may please. He says that you could use your Winter Fuel Payment to pay for the batteries, although you may have to turn the radiators down to offset the gas bill. You do have gas in Barnsley don't you? 😁

  14. I bought some of these recently along with a heated softshell jacket... obviously not "Westfield tested" yet but seem toasty enough. The battery packs are made of two standard 18650 3.7v batteries in a case with a simple (and universal) micro USB charging connection. Almost disposable at 30 quid 🤷‍♂️

  15. Well, the thread had reached its natural end several days ago anyway and this is the non-Westfield “Stuff and Nonsense” section as well so while the point is taken, I really don’t think thread drift on this occasion can be classified as a concern as I very much doubt anyone will join the club to learn about fish. I’d better stop carping on about fish now, as I’m herring some discontent and I wouldn’t want anyone to trout at me. (See how I got the thread back on to fish? I’m so clever, and not the slightest bit koi about it. 😝)

  17. Exactly Richard, the empathy of others I have found to be very helpful, with no disrespect to the doctors and various professionals and even family who love you, if you can talk to someone who has experienced the same as you and can empathise it can be very very beneficial 🙂

  18. It is the only time I have been jealous of people older than me. I will get it but one of the last groups. I cannot wait to have it. My daughter is an anaesthetic Dr working exclusively at the moment in Covid ITU in between Solihull and Heartlands in the midlands. Spoke with her earlier and she was just dealing with three more deaths, which might have not happened if they had had the vaccine to lessen the severity. I am not one for censorship but with all the viral social media claims which are utterly insane, perhaps we should curb this as it is clearly affecting some otherwise rational people. Great news you have had it Scott, take care

  19. Hi, I was bought a Skywatcher 130M a few years ago with a few different filters and lens adapters. Very much an amateur and it can do far more than I know what to do with it (same as the westy on track!) Next would be a camera mount but with the scope and a mobile phone you can get nice and close to the moon

  24. Its the Competition that has the M4 unit, can't remember the name but mine has an N55b engine The 2018 I have is the LCI which of Facelift on the original design which is similar to the M240i with wider arches front and back. The Competition is the upgraded model with new engine and a lot of upgrades (better seats) but comes at a price hike of around £8k over my 18 plate Went through a short tunnel earlier and the noise is amazing!

  25. And I bet they just accept it and get on with their lives and don't keep moaning about infringement of rights. bla bla bla. And we wonder why the transfer rate is so high here and so low there. It would be nice to be out there.

  27. Thank you nick, but life isn't easy and some folks cope better than others when bad stuff happens, I wasn't one of them. Even in the early stages back in 2002, I had a Auntie who told me "You just need a good kick up the ( you know what)". Now quite frankly of all the people I knew, she was last person I expected to come out with that. She did admit many years later she should never have said that but the point is that perhaps the illness is turning a corner and becoming more of an excepted thing to talk about openly - because it hasn't always been like that and be viewed in the same way as talking about any other subject.

  30. @Barnsley John do you not like my idea of running the gloves from the car battery (via a 8V regulator), without the batteries in the gloves? This would give you heat all day long if required?

  31. I julie mine were around £120 you got yours i think from Buxton or one of them shops around 2 yrr ago if i am right and are same I just seen sum batterys on amozan for a deer hunter glove and look exactly same battery £40 a pair for baterys Hence can ya make sum up for a lot less It looks like its probably not worth the hassell as more of a safety point as get it wrong charging them could go tixxts up garage on fire westy burnt out and only warm thing would be tha ashes afterwards Wen you initially look at the bat pack you think oh yes 2 x recharhable nicads from Tesco stick em together with a bit of wire and a charger port But thats not the case more technical than that but how can they justyfi £40 a pair of batterys Guess i live in wrong area if country were our giros and shell suites cannot buy anything over £4.99 Stay safe stop in And we will get in westys again thanks john

  32. So... thread drift, always a risk, is now something we have to monitor? Thread hijacking yes fair enough but thread drift to me is a normal evolution of the conversation, surely?

  33. As John said, I also have a pair of the same gloves and although they are very good at keeping your digits toasty, the batteries do not last long enough. When the batteries run out they go straight to OFF and that's it, no warning or running them on low for a while, which is frustrating. An easy solution is just to buy another pair of gloves (Valentines Day 😍 is looming, tell Jacky). Use the batteries that come with the second pair and when you have worn the original gloves out, you have a spare pair of gloves. They are good gloves without the batteries too. In Barnsley language this translates to, get your purse out John😃

  38. With some time from an early finish at work, I managed to grind and sand the join line fairly flat as well as remove most of the compound that spilt under the dam. I didn't clean all of it off, as one bit near a wall pier will be under some shelving and I was getting fed up of not seeing what I was doing in the corner. With the floor now as prepared as I was going to make it, the time had come for the first coat of paint. I ended up using Watco's basic epoxy in light grey. I've used their paint a few years before, but it was Snags that reminded me if the company name. They suggested that a 5L tin would suit 30m2, so I duly ordered a couple. The paint is a water based epoxy, so it has a usable life of 2hours. I didn't want to use the solvent free epoxy,as the pot life of 20-30 mins wouldn't be enough. It was also more expensive and overly shiny, and I wanted a matt floor if possible. It started to go down well, with a heater running to keep the temperature up. As it's my weekend with the boy, he decided to lend a hand and did most of the cutting in for me. He also had a bit of a go with the roller, and did the last bit as we painted ourselves out the door. With his help, the whole floor took 1hr 45mins to do, against a pot life of 2hrs. Overall, I wish we had put the paint on a little thicker to start with as we had loads left over. I reckon i could've covered another 10-15m2 with out any bother! I hope to do the second coat tomorrow, after which time it should have an even colour and then needs 7 days to fully cure. The garage will be usable after 2 days though, at which point I can make a start in getting the storage and workbench sorted. I shall update this again once the second is down and dry.

  39. Buy it... 😁 Only thing I would prefer is a big fat Q plate on the front as it makes engine mods and MOTs easier. But lets be honest, 8.5k for a nice car like that, then a 3 - 4 k budget for twiddling over 3 years ... Buy it... or don't... i like the car it nearly is.
