  1. I've a pal that's fitted a K20 into a Caterham.. it was a squeeze, and he had to dry sump it to get it under the bonnet. He's using a Caterham six speed box, via an adaptor. (Same fitting as a Ford type nine, so a beefed up type nine would maybe do the job?) I see you're located at Warrington? .. you have TDI north on your doorstep, for any specialist tuning /mapping. I've dragged my son's race CRX down there a fair number of times for mapping.. they're good lads.

  2. You can say that again! You'll end up needing a new ring gear for your rear end.

  5. its one of those things where the f20 is the tried and tested path that works very well. eveyone suggests Kswap the world until they actually come to do it. i could kswap my mondeo lol. im sure if you have deep enough pockets its achievable but is it worth going to all that hassle when its probs not going to be any quicker than your average westy. so why bother. also depends on the age old question what are you using if for. yes the k20 might be great screaming at 9k on track if you can get it under the noise limits but that doesnt mean its going to be any good pootling around the town. and if your using it on track youd be suprised after spending however many thousands on the kswap its more than likley not going to be much quicker than my 1.8 zetec. i must admit ive left all but a few of the faceache groups, its not just the fit a k20 engine but the same questions that get asked over and over

  6. That’s basically it, it will keep me out of mischief. With F20 prices as they are it’s probably about the same all in as a straight engine swap. Who knows it may never happen. But as soon as one person gets it to work then it becomes an option for others. I would probably end up building a new car rather than messing with the hoonicorn so it’s a long way off yet.

  7. I quite enjoy trawling YouTube looking at the various kit car videos and I started to subscribe to MK recently. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences in engineering solutions between our Westfields and their Indy's. Generally the Indy now seems to mostly run mx5 (n/a or turbo) or bike engines, but a few are running the S2000. Next week they are doing a weight comparison on the F20 on standard gearbox with a K20 on a MX5 6spd (with new adapter plate) that some might find interesting. The mazda 'box is definitely a lot slimmer up to the bellhousing but I'm not sure how they are solving the height challenge with the K20... At the end of this week's you can see the two boxes side by side.

  9. In some ways yes, in some ways no. I did this on the current build with the v6 and asked my self many times is it worth the hassle. Yes if id have stuck to the zetec I had it would have been quicker and easier to build. However I would have quickly looked to get to 200bhp which would have meant TBs, cams etc plus the cost of a race line sump, and then Id have needed a decent type 9 box with the correct ratios etc. It soon adds up. Compared to the v6 which cost me 200 quid. And then another 1500 in sump/adapter plate/flywheel and clutch then 150 for mx5 gearbox. Yes it was a complete ball ache at times and I came very close to giving up and fitting a duratec a couple of times, but a bit of effort and I've ended up with a similar power output to an f20 but for less than half the price. It will be interesting to see what direction the 'standard' Westfield will go as zetecs are getting scarce now.

  10. A few have started, but in the world of the Forum, pretty much all have been either sold as incomplete projects, or broken and the K20 elements sold off individually. To the bes of my knowledge, @Delboy car is the only successful conversion running, amongst WSCC members, (at least ones we see or hear about on the forum). And Del's is such an extreme example in terms of engineering, spec, and bespoke/semi-bespoke parts, that it almost may as well be a McLaren engine swap for most of comparison details! I guess there probably are Westfield's out there that have been done, in the way that there Westfield's out there that have had what increasingly feels like some of the near mythical Mazda gearbox swaps. They're just not in Club circles!

  11. Those fb f20 vs k20 battles always do make me chuckle. You never seem to get zetec vs duratec kick offs in the same manner . Just seems odd kicking off over 2 very good engines. I looked into the k20 a few years ago when I decided that I couldnt stomach the cost of an f20. From my rudimentary measuring of my mates ep3 I reckoned with the v8 bonnet it was just about do-able without dry sumping. I am surprised that no one has seriously gone after the k20, it seems to be the perfect engine for our cars. NA, the 200bhp figure that most end up going after, reliable, responds well to tuning and boosting aswell. And generally a third of the price of its big brother.

  12. Have you got room for all these 'trinkets'? Sounds painful 😉 It will keep you out of mischief!

  13. I does 39mpg on motorway cruises... and 30 driven sensibly on back roads and urban... be brave for once. The smiles for gallon will be far more valuable than the 20 quid a week of over expense in fuel...

  14. Haha, he reminds me of Gregg Wallace from Masterchef 😂 I did agonise over posting it, but it's the first time I've seen a kit manufacturer seriously look at a RWD K20 solution. Maybe the MK has an deceivingly tall engine bay?

  15. No need to be sorry! It's all very interesting! I'll like the guys accent and enthusiasm too! I just keep waiting for him to say 'Only me', as Harry Enfield did! Also, interesting that they're using the 630ECU, I 'thought' that was Westfield only supply?

  16. Having looked over this car and been a passenger, I admit there is temptation to upgrade from my 125d. Unfortunately mpg for up to 30k miles a year overrides the urge. GLWS, this us a very nice car.

I spotted on Facebook a JustGiving page in Steve's name raising money for Kirkwood Hospice. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/steve-pitt5?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=steve-pitt5&utm_campaign=pfp-share&utm_term=ed6c9255d00c44f0b526bfa0d645250d Hopefully posting the link is allowed?

  20. Same here Chris has done a fantastic job! I know enough to appreciate what he's done but not enough to do it anywhere near good enough, to match what's required!
