  1. Life's end is never easy, but when taken prematurely the effects are far worse for the family and friends, my sincere condolences to Steve's family at this sad time, I feel that the kinship we have in this club makes this more heartfelt for somebody I never met.

  4. So agree, and for those friends we meet frequently on line, but only once or twice a year in person, at events.

  10. You can't beat having a good building products supplier that knows their way round the building site especially as new materials are coming on stream often. It's been a couple of years since I was doing concrete repairs but the general rule was to use modified cement products for structural repairs and if the structure was sound epoxy materials were favorite for there better wear and decorative qualities. As with all things proper preparation is key to a good, long lasting job, then the correct product selection for the work required. Our extreme product choice was Fastplug which was immense and we repaired any concrete with this even roads/runways and it was waterproof, needed no primer(just clean solid concrete), could be applied thinly, set within 30 minutes and could take heavy transport within 1 hour, not cheap but never failed itself, not what could be said of other high specification materials.

  11. I wouldn't feel too bad, these are relatively specialised products. Even the technical team at Instarmac have suggested I am overdoing it as they consider this approach to be suitable for industrial applications! If it weren't for us replacing the roof soon after we moved in September, my garage would also be full of stuff. As it is, the imminent arrival of my XI kit has meant that I've got a fairly free pass to hide that stuff all over the house and in her shed, as I know that once it arrives, I'll never get the floor sorted. This way I can do it once and hopefully not have to redo it for at least a decade.

  14. Sorry to hear this sad news. Condolences to his family. Being a fellow 250 builder, had numerous “remote” chats with Steve, he will be sadly missed. RIP Steve.

  15. From a different perspective perhaps, I flew RC aircraft for many, many years, and had to pass tests to do so as time moved on. It was also a pretty well regulated and organised community, with dedicated flying sites, requirements for good liability insurance etc. As the years passed, the rules got tighter, but never really onerous IMO. When drones became ‘a thing’ it bothered me a bit that folk could fly them wherever they liked with zero experience or instruction. I for one am happy to see some effective regulation is finally in place. Nothing against folk doing their thing at all, but the potential to cause serious harm with a flying machine is undeniable, so having some training, no matter how cursory, and some regulation is a good thing I think. Insurance is a must too. I know this all sounds very grumpy old git, but even well regulated activities have accidents, and I saw a few over the years that could have had fatal consequences. We don’t tend to think about what could go wrong when just flying our ‘toys’. @Barnsley John best of luck with the test, no reason it should curb your enjoyment.

  16. It's with great sadness that I have to announce that Steve has lost his battle with cancer. Steve passed away earlier today, at home with his family after coming home from a hospice. As many of you know, he built his Sport 250 from a kit completing it in July 2018, but never stopped upgrading and improving. His first outing was to our summer BBQ after going to the wrong Fox and Grapes. 3 days later, we were at Thornes Park for his first show. His enthusiasm for all runs and shows was immense, even after we all left him in a carpark when his steering wheel collapsed leaving him to gaffer tape it back together to complete his journey. Steve was a regular at all our meetings and will missed by us all. Our thoughts go out to Dawn and Josh.
