And I saw this yesterday... Don't tell anti-maskers that a face mask protects against Covid-19. Tell them they prevent government 5G cameras and surveillance systems from tracking them.5 points

Those who know me well would know that Iโm lost without a project on the go so to pass the time over the summer I found something to keep me occupied while not working on the Costin. Iโve always fancied restoring a bike but not having a licence limits my options somewhat if I ever want to ride it. After a bit of searching the Testi Champion ticked the boxes but being Italian theyโre few and far between in the U.K. a suitable project was found in Italy and after a few emails I was able to convince the seller to dismantle the bike and post it to me in 3-boxes! Suffice to say that my local postman was less than impressed with this. Against all odds it arrived safely (missing a few nuts and bolts) but all the important bits were there. from this.... to this....3 points

Hi all you Somerset and Devon devotees! Hope that you all had a great Christmas and New Year and the ole sleigh was laden with parts, tools and other goodies! I was hoping prior to the break that there was a prospect of us being able to get together for a first drive out and the opportunity to meet. Clearly, that won't be possible for a little while with the new lockdown. So, apologies for a bit of a false start - but I guess I have a decent excuse! I will plan to organise something as soon as the restrictions are lifted to a level where we can do so safely. In the meantime, I guess we have time to muck about with the cars, do those jobs that we have been meaning to do and make any tweaks etc. In between extracting one son's car from a hedge, and getting the others car sorted for MOT, (Covid pales into insignificance when compared the the Bio hazard of the what you find inside your student son's Corsa!), I've just fitted some wind deflectors. Thought that it was worth giving them a go! I've not had the chance to test them out as in the midst of changing the steering wheel which needs the boss to be machined / modified a bit - so that's the next job! I see that some areas have organised virtual meets - not sure what you think about this but happy to give it a go if there is some interest? Hope that you all stay safe and well and I do really look forward to being able to meet up for a drive and a beer a bit later in the year! W2 points

Mark, I may be totally out of date here, but doesn't your car driver's licence act as a provisional licence to ride bikes up to a certain small size of engine? Looking at the pictures I'm guessing that the engine capacity of this bike is small to match the tiny front disc brakes and the very narrow section rear tyre? No use me looking at my licence because I passed my bike test many years ago, so it isn't limited to cars. As for the engine for the Costin, I am delighted for you that you dropped on this, absolutely perfect for the job. Very light weight for a car engine as unusually for the period it was all aluminum head and block, and in the form you have found it has excellent power relative to the engine capacity. Well done, and keep us posted on developments.1 point

This thread is long overdue an update but the truth is that very little progress has been made over the last 6 months. With Covid restrictions in place and the inevitable impact this and furlough have had on many of the local businesses Iโve been using I found it easier to leave it until matters improved. Before things were put on pause one major job that I did compete was a full trial assembly of the car with all the parts. I wanted to do the as a) I had no idea how it went together and b) I had no idea if I had all the bits. Well itโs complete and aside from a couple of small questions along the way most of it seems to be there and fit as if expect. As for the questions well one of the rear trailing arms is half an inch longer than the other, no idea why as the chassis mounts are in the same location so I suspect itโs just lazy welding and the other is that Iโm missing most of the coolant hoses from the front of the car so need to figure how this crosses the pedal box. Over the Christmas break Iโve been looking into the Roll hoop, this is only 1โ diameter tube so has got to go. A replacement hoop has been drawn up so Iโm now at the stage of getting prices for this to be fabricated and fitted. For now just a plywood mockup to show. The other major milestone is that Iโve sourced a suitable engine for the car. Iโd originally looked at getting something built as the spec required for this car would be scarce to say the least. By chance I spotted an advert that sparked my interest and after an exchange of emails the deal was done. The engine in question was built by George Bevan for the imp touring car. For those who no their Imps the Bevan Imp raced to victory in 3 years running from 1970-72 in the British saloon car championship at the hands of Bill McGovern. This engine was the spare from that very car and I bought it directly from the Bevan family so can attest itโs provenance. The spec is as good as it gets, 998cc, R23 steel full race cam (9200rpm) ported and polished head with wills rings, lightened rods and balanced crank all of which takes the power from the stock 39bhp to a conservative estimate of 110bhp based on period data.1 point

I am also coming up to 10 year retirement anniversary (May). Love it Never bored Haven't worn a watch since May 2011. I think that if you're an interesting person, with lots of hobbies and an inquisitive personality you won't have enough hours in the day. If you're not then, er, make another cup of tea.1 point

I've been retired almost 9 years now, and I can honestly say that other than live F1 I have not yet switched on daytime tv, I never seen to have a minute to spare, take today for instance, I went for a walk this morning. It wasn't cold at all. There was a nice view. Then I had a read and did a crossword......................................................by the pool.1 point

First trip out to Caffeine and Machine in Stratford on Saturday which was a decent run out from Bewdley and made a change from the usual drives out West. COVID restrictions in place but they were really well set up to take orders and the shop was open subject to restrictions. Very cool place and will most definitely be going again !1 point

Made the most of a very wet day to go get ECU re-mapped. I thought the 160 mile drive in the pouring rain in the daylight required a lot of concentration this morning - the first 100 miles on the way home in the dark was far harder, the last 60 after the driver's wiper had flown off to go live in a hedge near Stonehenge was hardly any fun at all! My car / hood combo seems great at keeping the falling down rain out but rubbish at stopping the road spray coming up the gap between doors and side walls - resulting in a very wet right arm and liberal use of Tesco bags for life on the way home. Suppose it's my fault for not just borrowing a trailer. ๐ Full tech info in correct tuning / performance /rolling road forum.1 point
