Hi there, thought I should take the time to introduce myself after reading so much on here. My names James, im 27 and have just moved to Nottinghamshire. I've been into cars, motorbikes and push bikes for as long as I can remember. I've finally got a house with a garage to keep my motorbike (picture below) in and some money in my pocket to buy a 'proper' car. (Although a low budget compared to some!) I've wanted a westfield for quite some time after driving a few 'sports' type cars in the past but really would like a true drivers car now that I have a daily driver too. I do have some questions regarding ownership im hoping can be answered on here. The biggest question i have is the possibility of keeping one outside with a roof fitted and a car cover over it? I have read about the hard-core people who drive these year round, and the people who barely take them out. After taking measurements I dont think one will fit in my garage with the other things in there. Or must I wait until I get a car port fitted? (Its a new house so certain restrictions are in place) Anyway - apologies for the perhaps far too long introduction, hopefully I will be in a car soon and can stop living vicariously through members of this site!3 points

.......which also comes with a moral! First off I have to say that the Munter performed very well indeed and as the sessions went on I felt my confidence growing to hit the corners with less brakes and more speed, it was certainly keeping up with most on bends. Second session of the afternoon, were flying, dry, crisp, sticky tyres, perfect. But then hitting the big right hander after the start/finish straight the front left gave a bit of a shudder, felt like the tyre had punctured, so I slowed to limp back to the pits, the shuddering grew worse, now I’m thinking it’s properly flat! Another knock and it felt like the tyre had come off the rim.........game over?//// pulls onto the grass and got out to investigate...........the wheel had fallen off just as I stopped 😲 The yellow flag had now turned to red, along with my face in embarrassment, rescue came in a pick up with a flat bed behind, but luckily I spotted one nut on the track, and we hoisted the car up off its brake disc, attached the wheel with two nuts and I made it back to the pits under my own steam. I honestly wanted to crawl into a hole, I’d managed to red flag a track session. So the moral of the story guys and (girls)...........always check your nuts (ahem!)3 points

Actually, another two Bagpusses... Bagpussi?... there’s a Sergeant Bagpuss too! @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO I’ve changed the name of the SORN’d account from “Bagpuss” (which has no posts or activity and been dormant for four years anyway) to “NOT Bagpuss”. Hopefully that should prevent future mistakes - we all know there’s only one!2 points

Here in maranello a new westfield is arrived. A little bit neglected. But with the car had comes with a lot of old papers, and a name on them: Matt Seabrock. A rapid google informed me that he was a very well respencted member of this forum, can anyone inform him about this post and -if possible- made us in contact? We want to ask him some thecnical information about the car, to restore it to its ancient glory,1 point

Wow, ok I'm impressed! Maybe I could find a kind person that for coffee and bacon would park their car in my garage as a trial run haha1 point

Wow thanks for the warm welcome all, im flattered 🙏 I'm of the opinion that it will fit on occasion if needed, rather than living in there, I've got 9.5'x19' to play with. But it will have a work bench across the back and the motorbike as a minimum, potentially my regular push bikes too. I'd love to build one with my old man, long term that would be my goal, but right now finances won't allow such a task.1 point

Absolutely love it! Bought mine from another member on here so already built... have absolutely loved the driving and tinkering in equal measure! Been out to the track with it to which was fantastic until making a school buy fueling error (never will be made again!!). The thing I've noticed most is that every person this car has led me to meet has been an absolute legend! Hope you find the same!1 point

There was a chap with an MG Midget at a MSE track/airfield day about five years ago. He'd modified the car in several ways one way being fat sticky tyres on wider rims. The corollary to extra grip, as many with lunched diffs already know, is greater forces back into the car. He had still got the original hubs with the four 10mm studs, and the cornering forces gained by having those wide sticky tyres had broken first one, then the remaining three studs on the outside, loaded, front wheel. Away it went across the grass... After the humiliation of being carried back to the paddock on a flat bed, he proceeded to remove one stud from each of the three remaining wheels, and drove home on all four wheels but each with three studs only.1 point

Mike and I really enjoyed it too! Really was a very good day. EDIT - just a shame I missed capturing Andy in the Munter on an earlier run with all three of us in a train, that was brilliant.1 point

Whoever buys it is going to have to know what type of plate diff it is, as unlike sealed Viscous diffs and Quaife ATB's, plate diffs do need special LSD oils.1 point

I second that.. also... 1. If you post it you have to drain the oil anyway. 2. Anyone who buys a second hand diff should put new oil in just to be sure.1 point

Yes I have a decent session chasing mike on camera and a few laps with the camera facing back to him chasing me 👍 Numbers were about right, no queues to get on track, weather held, very few red flags and a distinct lack of a****holes. Mike and I both commented on the fact that a lot of cars were of quite similar pace, which made for some interesting runs with more than a few cars happy to have a friendly cat n mouse session. There was also an old MGB that was “on it” giving a nice display of how to use skinny tyres to great effect! Mike had a good day - he did have a clutch issue but managed to sort that with minimal down time. Best lap was a 1:42 (no idea how that compares) when I was having fun playing chase with a tricked out Audi TT. Had a chat with a lad in a Puma that was pretty good on track - he paid £800 for it (track ready) and was over the moon with his bargain track toy. Just goes to show that cheap fun can be had! So - Brilliant day 😁1 point

Even though Swordfishtrombones is peerless, I like this version of this track better (from Big Time) - more visceral and with Marc Ribot's guitar...1 point

For the price of some rtv and a litre of oil I'd whip the cover off and have a peek what's inside. Might get you a better price and easier sell if people know what their getting.1 point

When I ran out of fuel at Knockhill a few years back I never told anybody, blamed it on ignition or whatever. Its a bit difficult to deny this one. lol1 point

So far we've discerned that it's a limited slip diff. It could be plated, but might be viscous. It works on both acceleration and deceleration. It has a weep from the nearside output. It is 7.5" and will fit most post 96 Westfields. Surely someone wants it for £400? If not I'll get it rebuilt, find out exactly what it is in the process and put it up for twice as much.1 point
