  1. Finally I've got my back-side into gear and got Maverick out of storage so I can work on it during the Winter! Fortunately there is not much to do. Main jobs include a full service, fitting the half hood and replacing the oil catch tank (which is an old metal drinks holder but I have a nice shiny tank in the garage that I purchased on the forum all ready!). The front lights are catching the wings at full lock so I'll probably replace them with a slightly smaller light fitting if I can't adjust them to suit. Other than that it needs good detail (especially the bright work) and then I'll be ready for an MOT in the Spring and a few trips out to the Peaks!!! Only question I have is whether to sell it once the MOT has been completed. I already have a two seater car with a V8 engine (the Cobra) and don't have much storage space for another. However that's a problem for future Andrew ... the Andrew of now has a big grin on his face after spending the morning playing on Maverick ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  2. Bonjour Stephane, Welcome to the club, always plenty of advice, chat and laughs. As Gary said, pictures and spec are always nice. Hereโ€™s mine, 1996 SEiW, 3.9 V8. Red, of course. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. Your preaching to the converted here @Rab (bombero) Reid! I'm a big believer of smoke detection in all premises both commercial and domestic! The problem is not everyone will be able to afford the cost of a retrofit interlinked system if it becomes legislation, unless there is a clause that the interlinked systems only apply to new builds, and all existing properties MUST have stand alone battery detectors (with a 10 year battery) in all risk rooms. That would be an ideal solution to the vast majority I would imagine. As it is, my house is currently over specced with detectors but having seen first hand the damage that fire and smoke can do, it was never an option to skip detection. As you said, early detection is key to aid escape for the whole family.

  5. Thanks Mark, I put an extension on the house, which would explain why it was all on the plans, but I know I added some that weren't compulsory just to make me feel a bit safer ๐Ÿ‘ Given the amount of extension works going on and that it's since 2010 best guess there is a good number already covered. Can see a lot of sense in this getting extended though to every house.

  6. You are welcome to have first refusal. Let me know once yours goes to a new owner and I'll give you an idea of where I am with the work. Maverick's got a lot of history within the club and even did a 3,000 mile trip across the US with a previous owner (all fully documented) so you'd be getting a gem.

  7. Not my suggestion...... just observing legislation is NOT connected to Grenfell and not needed in my dwelling IMO.

  8. Iโ€™m not over familiar with the Scottish regulations but certainly for England and Wales interlinked detection in circulation areas has been a requirement for new build housing for at least the last 15 years and for extensions to existing dwellings since 2010.

  9. As far as I'm aware, it's not England, yet. At the moment, the Govt. are more concerned with high rise buildings. There was a raft of proposals in the draft of the new Fire Safety Bill, but the Tory Party voted them down recently as the proposals basically put the onus on the responsible person (landlord) to inform the local fire authority of all fire safety measures and any cladding composition on ANY building, not just high rise. Guess how many Tory MP's are also landlords! It makes my blood boil to be honest. The bill is currently being rewritten...

  10. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ Up close the paintwork has lost a little shine and there are a few light marks which need to be buffed out. It's mainly the brightwork which requires a good polish ... running with @Julie Hall - Peak District AO and her gleaming Westfield means it's got to be as perfect as possible. And the Cobra will be the last thing I own to go I'm afraid ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. For scotgov to say this is a reaction to Grenfell is nonsense as nowt to do with it. Nobody inside a flaming towering roman candle needed a smoke alarm alert. Rab, please provide your data on foam cladding replacement in Scotland as I am interested in the figures and , as you say, very little news coverage. I already have smoke alarms in lounge and hall plus a co detector but not electrically interlinked, which used to be for work places only. I have 2 fire extinguishers. With 45 fatal fire casualties in 2018-19 in Scotland (each one a tragedy) out of about 2.5 million dwellings it might seem a sledge hammer to crack a nut. I am confident there will be no vested interests at play. Care needed by homeowners regarding insurance as either not fitting likely to increase premium or if legal requirement not met then claim rejection becomes very likely in the event of a fire.

  13. Are you suggesting that the new mandatory standard of detection is a bad thing...?

  14. More than the obvious links to Fleetwood Mac and Albatross (another bird - get it? - Christine Mcvie sang Songbird, not Stevie Nicks), there is a physical one - Eva Cassidy regularly gigged as an unsigned journeyman at Mick Fleetwood's club in upstate New York. Might be a bit soppy for this forum, but you cannot fault her singing voice.

  16. Chesterfield is in Tier 2 and we can meet in groups of 6 outdoors, so we had a crack at it today. It was largely successful, I for one felt safe and therefore we shall try and operate like this until things change again. If you are in tier 1 or 2 and you wish to join us, please register your interest and I will do my best to accomodate you. Use PM, phone, text or on here, whichever way suits you best. Here is our day today, I hope you enjoy the photo's and it gives you a moment of escapism x. Honda Boy, Rob, arriving you knew a Honda engined Westfield would be involved didn't you? At 8.40am this morning we were struggling to park at Hassop, don't folks want a lie in bed anymore? Shortly after a local guy in a beautiful Bentley arrived, it is a 4.5 litre straight 4, after today it is coming off the road for the front suspension to be sorted. And now he has seen Rita he said he was going to polish it too, a compliment indeed. The Lotus club soon arrived, they were in limited numbers too And the car park just kept getting better We went on our route, when we touched the Sheffield end of the Peak District it got busy, so we swerved it and went on the quieter roads. Lights on boys, it was dark under the trees We had a pit stop at The Barrel Inside the real fire had just been lit, it looked very warm and inviting, but we have to be outdoors only, so we admired the view instead. Back on the road we wiggled a route to finish at The Bull I Thorn and the inevitable happened. Martin danced like an Egyptian, er no, we ate cake. Bull I Thorn Soon, Bill wished us a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, probably a happy Easter too and made his way home. Greater Manchester will surely be in Tier 3 very soon and that will mean no mixing with other households for Bill, so after getting the dust out of my eye I waved a goodbye to him. Good job Rob was on hand to quickly change the subject and get on with the day. It has been a great day with the lovely cars, a Crossflow, a V8, a Duratec, a Honda and our Zetec making an excellent and interesting collection of Westfields. Hope to see you all soon.

  17. https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/36668/12105536/portuguese-gp-f1-enters-the-portimao-rollercoaster-for-debut "Portuguese GP: F1 enters the Portimao 'rollercoaster' for debut". I thought Mugello (crashes apart) was good but I reckon this could be way better. Hoping for an enjoyable and safe race.
