  1. Yeah, I admit the only thing Westie is the exhaust pipe, but the 'what you've been up to' thread is well buried. I set out several years ago to build myself a cigar box guitar, and rather than use a cigar box for the body, I would make my own hardwood box. I wasn't 100% happy with a couple of things, so I bunged it on ebay for a silly price, and it sold! And I've been making and selling them ever since! This year I figured it was about time to have another go at making one for myself alongside other builds. Finally got it finished and went a bit arty with the camera the other day - 'fast cars, electric guitars'. (For the wood freaks) Body and neck - oak and walnut. Fretboard - ovangkol with black mother-of-pearl binding. Headstock - spanish olive over walnut. Top and bottom - spanish olive over Indonesian hardwood ply.

  2. Thanks for organising another great tour around the coffee-and-cake (hmmm... is that what the CC stands for in WSCC 🤔) hotspots of the Peaks @Julie Hall - Peak District AO Seems inevitable that Greater Manchester will move to Tier 3. SORNed the Westy and will crack on with the winter upgrades.

  3. Thanks for a great day out as always! Bill, I hope the lockdown ends soon and you can get back out to play! We all know it's going to be difficult for the AO's to keep everyone happy with the restrictions. Don't worry about having to rotate the attendance going forward, we are all grown ups (well sort of!) and we all understand especially with some new members waiting for their chance... After all, everybody needs their fair share of Westfields, Peaks and Cake 😂 Stay safe! 👍

  4. Chesterfield is in Tier 2 and we can meet in groups of 6 outdoors, so we had a crack at it today. It was largely successful, I for one felt safe and therefore we shall try and operate like this until things change again. If you are in tier 1 or 2 and you wish to join us, please register your interest and I will do my best to accomodate you. Use PM, phone, text or on here, whichever way suits you best. Here is our day today, I hope you enjoy the photo's and it gives you a moment of escapism x. Honda Boy, Rob, arriving you knew a Honda engined Westfield would be involved didn't you? At 8.40am this morning we were struggling to park at Hassop, don't folks want a lie in bed anymore? Shortly after a local guy in a beautiful Bentley arrived, it is a 4.5 litre straight 4, after today it is coming off the road for the front suspension to be sorted. And now he has seen Rita he said he was going to polish it too, a compliment indeed. The Lotus club soon arrived, they were in limited numbers too And the car park just kept getting better We went on our route, when we touched the Sheffield end of the Peak District it got busy, so we swerved it and went on the quieter roads. Lights on boys, it was dark under the trees We had a pit stop at The Barrel Inside the real fire had just been lit, it looked very warm and inviting, but we have to be outdoors only, so we admired the view instead. Back on the road we wiggled a route to finish at The Bull I Thorn and the inevitable happened. Martin danced like an Egyptian, er no, we ate cake. Bull I Thorn Soon, Bill wished us a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, probably a happy Easter too and made his way home. Greater Manchester will surely be in Tier 3 very soon and that will mean no mixing with other households for Bill, so after getting the dust out of my eye I waved a goodbye to him. Good job Rob was on hand to quickly change the subject and get on with the day. It has been a great day with the lovely cars, a Crossflow, a V8, a Duratec, a Honda and our Zetec making an excellent and interesting collection of Westfields. Hope to see you all soon.

  5. This one was slightly under the radar as @Chris King - Webmaster got in a few milliseconds earlier with his Javelin Croft thread so I decided to keep shtum and let people pile into that one. It was with a new outfit run by a couple of Croft instructors, https://driveatrack.co.uk/ Cheap day for Croft at £160, but presumably they'll up the prices if or when they get established. Free photography too, but not seen the pics yet. So, the weather was dry all day, but cold in the morning, and a bit more comfortable in the afternoon. Had slicks fitted all day, but they took several laps to get any temperature into them. There seemed to be a good number of red flags, mainly in the morning .. not sure why. Two caused by the same Honda Civic. He proclaimed his arrival at the circuit with a loud revving of the engine, bouncing off the limiter.. I think its a Honda thing. First time out on the circuit he went into the gravel at the first corner. 🙂 Later on he left the track at the complex and went a long way over the grass before a barrier stopped him.. JeffC accompanied me in his K20erham, so I wasn't going to get much play with him, and to be honest, I struggled to find much on my pace to have a bit of a chase. I stuck to a McLaren for a few brief corners which was fun, then he left me for dead. I'll have a mooch through the video footage and find something to put on the tube no doubt..

  7. Just a thought but how about having a Members help and Donate scheme. I’m not that technically minded and quite often call on the help and advice of other members offering to pay in beer tokens .Most of the time people help for free but I’d quite happily make a charitable donation . Right now my handbrake needs tightening and brake fluid could do with a change ,if someone helps / shows me how to do it I will know for next time and I will donate £40 to charity .The amount doesn’t have to made public if Not wanted .

  8. Thanks for your reminder Rob. The Make a Wish donations are currently at £170 compared to last years £2000 so we could do with quite a few more please

  14. Will see what options are available and what the team think - but not sure about having a different section as it might get confusing having multiple “tech” areas?

  19. Thanks - took some doing as I felt it was prudent to build a test server prior to the update. That took way longer that I'd hoped, but with literally MILLIONS of posts on here, I didn't want to take any chances on it all going horribly wrong!

  24. Pooh woke up that morning, and, for reasons that he didn't entirely understand, couldn't stop the tears from coming. He sat there in bed, his little body shaking, and he cried, and cried, and cried. Amidst his sobs, the phone rang. It was Piglet. "Oh Piglet," said Pooh, between sobs, in response to his friend's gentle enquiry as to how he was doing. "I just feel so Sad. So, so, Sad, almost like I might not ever be happy again. And I know that I shouldn't be feeling like this. I know there are so many people who have it worse off than me, and so I really have no right to be crying, with my lovely house, and my lovely garden, and the lovely woods all around me. But oh, Piglet: I am just SO Sad." Piglet was silent for a while, as Pooh's ragged sobbing filled the space between them. Then, as the sobs turned to gasps, he said, kindly: "You know, it isn't a competition." "What isn't a competition?" asked a confused sounding Pooh. "Sadness. Fear. Grief," said Piglet. "It's a mistake we often make, all of us. To think that, because there are people who are worse off than us, that that somehow invalidates how we are feeling. But that simply isn't true. You have as much right to feel unhappy as the next person; and, Pooh - and this is the really important bit - you also have just as much right to get the help that you need." "Help? What help?" asked Pooh. "I don't need help, Piglet. "Do I?" Pooh and Piglet talked for a long time, and Piglet suggested to Pooh some people that he might be able to call to talk to, because when you are feeling Sad, one of the most important things is not to let all of the Sad become trapped inside you, but instead to make sure that you have someone who can help you, who can talk through with you how the Sad is making you feeling, and some of the things that might be able to be done to support you with that. What's more, Piglet reminded Pooh that this support is there for absolutely everyone, that there isn't a minimum level of Sad that you have to be feeling before you qualify to speak to someone. Finally, Piglet asked Pooh to open his window and look up at the sky, and Pooh did so. "You see that sky?" Piglet asked his friend. "Do you see the blues and the golds and that big fluffy cloud that looks like a sheep eating a carrot?" Pooh looked, and he could indeed see the blues and the golds and the big fluffy cloud that looked like a sheep eating a carrot. "You and I," continued Piglet, "we are both under that same sky. And so, whenever the Sad comes, I want you to look up at that sky, and know that, however far apart we might be physically...we are also, at the same time, together. Perhaps, more together than we have ever been before." "Do you think this will ever end?" asked Pooh in a small voice. "This too shall pass," confirmed Piglet. "And I promise you, one day, you and I shall once again sit together, close enough to touch, sharing a little smackerel of something...under that blue gold sky." We all need a piglet in our lives.
